Ethan’s Pov

The passenger door of the hyper-car lifted upward with a loud hiss, and the real world hit me like an explosion.

A blinding wall of white light from a hundred cameras slammed into my eyes. The roar of the morning rain hitting the wet asphalt was completely drowned out by the shouting of sports journalists breaching the security ropes.

"Ethan! Look over here!"

"Is it true you have been in a secret relationship with Vance?"

"How does a mechanic live in the champion's private penthouse

  • ALPHA’S REDLINE CLAIM   Green Lights

Ethan's POV"Thirty-eight is not a spike," I said, and held up my wrist so he could see the band.Silas did not blink. He stood a single pace away, big and still, with his eyes on the band on my wrist. Behind him, the grid hummed and shook with engines, and the smell of fuel hung over everything, thick enough to taste. Overhead, the gray sky pressed low, and the first drops of a new shower stung my cheek. Beside me, Rex's gloved hand hung in the air, empty."Gavin said thirty-eight," Silas said, without looking away."Gavin said a spike. A spike is above the line, not on it." I tapped the band with one gloved finger. "Read the damn rule. Thirty-eight point zero is the line. I'm standing on it. I'm not over it.""You are playing with words," Silas said."Words are cheap," I said. "Numbers are my job."Silas looked at me for a long moment. Rex's jaw worked. He was keeping his promise so hard that it looked like it hurt.At last, Silas stepped half a pace to my left and folded his arms.

  • ALPHA’S REDLINE CLAIM   The Grid Walk

Ethan's POVThe car stopped at the edge of the pit lane, and the noise came through the glass before the door even opened. Engines coughed and howled beyond the barriers. A hundred voices shouted at once, and the air smelled of hot rubber, spilled fuel, and cold coffee.Rex killed the engine and sat with both hands on the wheel. The sudden quiet inside the car felt thick, and the cedar and leather of his scent filled every breath. A helicopter buzzed somewhere overhead, and the sun had come out from behind the clouds, so that the whole windshield sparkled with rain."Gloves," he said."What?"He reached behind the seat and dropped his spare driving gloves in my lap, thick, black, and fireproof, still smelling of leather and sweat. "You wear these. I wear mine. It's still a hand, and cameras don't check for skin.""That's your big idea?""You have a better one?""No. I hate that.""I said I'd think of something. I didn't say it would be good." The corner of his mouth lifted. The gloves

  • ALPHA’S REDLINE CLAIM   The Forged Legacy

Ethan's POVSunday morning came in gray and quiet, and the penthouse felt too big without Rex in it. Cold light laid long, pale stripes across the bedroom floor. The rain had stopped, and the only sound was the hum of the refrigerator down the hall. The sheets still smelled of cedar, and his jacket still lay across the foot of the bed. I kept my eyes off it the way you keep your eyes off a fire.I sat on the edge of the mattress in my socks, my boots in my lap. Far below the glass, three news vans idled at the curb with their dishes pointed at the sky like open mouths. Somebody down there already owned my photograph.Last night in the kitchen, Rex had asked me one question. Tell me you didn't. I must have looked at him as if he had slapped me, because his face changed. Then I said, "I didn't." He studied me for a long moment and said, "Okay." It was the quietest word I had ever heard, and it had held me up all night. At five, he left for the garage. Gavin's freeze had cut me off from

  • ALPHA’S REDLINE CLAIM   The Helpful Hand

Naomi's POVSunday dawn came up pale and clean after the rain. Light slanted through the open bay doors, and the garage smelled of cold coffee, wet tarmac, and fresh rubber. Compressors hummed in the corners, and somewhere a radio played a song nobody was listening to. It should have been the best part of a race morning. Instead it felt like the quiet right before a wall fell down.Ethan's chair was empty.Red tape crossed his terminal, Garage-04, in a big ugly X, with Silas's seal stamped in the middle. The tape fluttered each time the wind pushed through the doors, as if the terminal were breathing. Two junior mechanics walked around it the way people walk around a grave. Nobody said his name. Everybody looked at it."Don't stare at the tape," I told the nearest kid, a skinny mechanic named Pedro holding two coffees. "It won't bite.""They say he wiped the logs, Chief. In the middle of the night.""They say a lot of things." I took one of his coffees without asking, and it burned my

  • ALPHA’S REDLINE CLAIM   Truce at Midnight

Ethan's POVRain streaked the car windows in long, crooked lines, and the city lights ran together into gold smears. Inside, the air smelled of leather, cedar, and burnt pepper. Rex had carried that sharp scent out of his aunt's dining room, and he had not put it down yet. His hands gripped the wheel at ten and two, and he stared at the road as though it had insulted his family.Elena's envelope pressed against my ribs with every breath. I kept my arms folded tightly over my chest to hide the shape of it."Open the window," I said, my voice sounding strained."It's raining hard out there," Rex muttered, not moving a finger."Then I'll get wet." I pressed the button, and cold air slapped my face. It helped for about a minute. The heat started low in my stomach, like a coal someone had dropped inside me. Then it crawled up my spine and settled at the back of my neck. The wool suit began to itch. Sweat ran between my shoulder blades, and the tie Rex had knotted so carefully felt like a

  • ALPHA’S REDLINE CLAIM   Someone Is Wearing My Name

Christian's POVHeavy rain drummed loudly on the aluminum roof of my team trailer. The air inside smelled strongly of cold coffee and warm plastic, and four massive computer screens glowed in the dark like a row of bright windows. Jonas, my data engineer, had been anxiously chewing the plastic end of a pen for a full hour, until the cap was nearly crushed flat. Now, he finally lifted his head from the console."It's not us," he said, his voice tense."Say that again for me, slowly." I dropped my racing boots flat on top of the desk and folded my hands casually behind my head. "I want to fully enjoy the sound of it."Jonas pushed his glasses up his nose with a shaky finger. He was twenty-six, rumpled, and the absolute best data hire I had ever made on this circuit. Right now, he looked as if he wanted to crawl completely under his swivel chair to hide. "Every security key we've issued. Every login profile, every guest pass. Nobody on our side touched the Vance fuel codes. Not last nigh
