Chapter Forty-Three

****

One night after the training.

The lanterns along the stone corridor shone golden circles of light as I walked back to my dorm with no single fear or pressure. Jason had stayed back at the yard, Kael had already vanished as he always did when shadows grew long and I was alone with the sounds of my footsteps.

That was when her voice came in from the half-opened door of her chambers.

“Aria,” she called softly, like a mother calling a child.

I stopped.

There was no reason to fear her, not after she had stood against Harry, not after she had scattered the Obsidian Key. She saved me. Protected me,she showed a little sign of loyalty. But something in me still doesn't trust her completely.

I opened the door fully and stepped in.

She sat at the center of the room with her leg crossed before a low table, a crystal sphere glowing faintly in her hands.

“Close the door,” she said without looking up.

I obeyed. The latch clicked shut, loud in the silence.

She set the sphere

Chapter Forty-Nine:****The next morning, the training grounds were cold, no warmth in the sun, no mercy in the wind. The air was with tension. We stood in formation, rows of acolytes in black and gray, swords at our sides. The scent of damp earth and iron was heavy, but under it, was fear. Not fear of drills. Not fear of punishment. But fear of her.Headmistress Morwen came down the stairs from the eastern tower like a shadow. Her cloak billowed behind her, midnight blue edged with silver thread that shone like frozen flame. Her boots struck the stone with deliberate precision. There was silence immediately.Even the wind stilled. She stopped at the center of the arena, her eyes scanning up,cold, calculating, and hungry.“Last night,” she began, voice low but carrying thunder, “someone disturbed the west archive. Someone broke a sacred seal. Someone triggered an alarm meant for invasions, for war, for betrayal.”Her eyes swept the line.No one moved. No one breathed.“And do you know

Chapter Forty-Eight****The plan was simple.Dangerous.Perfect.We moved like smoke through the upper corridors,Jason and Kael were ahead, I was behind, heart hammering against my ribs. Every instinct screamed to run, to vanish into the lower halls, to answer the pull that still throbbed in my bones. But I held back.Because this time, I wasn’t running to the door.I was running around it.“The junior dorms,” Jason whispered as we reached the west wing. “We need someone who won’t ask questions. Someone Morwen won’t suspect.”Kael nodded. “Lena. She’s small. Fast. And she owes me for covering her during the fire trial.”We found her asleep, curled under a threadbare blanket. Jason shook her gently. She blinked awake. “What?”“No time to explain,” Kael said, pressing a small vial into her hand. “Go to the west archive. Break the seal on the old warding chest. When the alarm sounds, run. Don’t look back.”Her eyes widened. “But that’ll bring the sentries”“Exactly,” I said. “That’s the

Chapter Forty-Seven****I didn’t sleep.Since the moment the door to Morwen’s office shut behind me, something inside me cracked open and now, it wouldn’t close.I lay in my bed, fully dressed and very restless.Come.Come back. She is waiting. But not the one you think. The voice wasn’t words. It was a sensation. A pull in my blood, and a fire low in my belly. The door was calling me. Not with sound, but with memory and hunger. And I wanted to answer it.I sat up. I wrapped my cloak around my shoulders and sneaked out of the dorm. The halls were empty. The night watch had passed. Torches shone low, casting long, trembling shadows. I moved like a ghost through the east wing, down the forgotten stairwell, past the sealed arch where the runes still glowed faintly blue.My heart pounded.Almost there.Just a few more turns.Then....“Aria.”The voice came from the side passage.I stopped.Kael stepped into the dim light, arms crossed, Jason followed, his expression tight.“What are you do

  • Academy Of Cursed Hearts    The Weight Of Her Eyes

Chapter Forty-Six****The morning sun bled through the stained-glass windows of the training hall. I stood in the center of the arena, sweat dripping down my eyes. Jason tapped me on the shoulder, grinning, his sword still in hand.“Almost had you that time,” he said, wiping his brow. “But you’re getting faster and smarter.”I forced a smile. “Yeah. Just… tired.”Truth was, I didn't sleep last night. Not really. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the door. Felt its cold bite. Heard Morwen whisper my name like a verdict. You’ll come back. You can’t stay away. And now, as I stepped out of the training hall, the weight of that promise pressed down on me like a stone.“Aria.”The voice came from behind.I turned. One of the senior acolytes,Lira stood in the archway, her posture was rigid, her expression unreadable. “Headmistress Morwen requests your presence. Immediately.”My stomach dropped. Now?Jason frowned. “What does she want?”Lira didn’t answer. She just turned and walked away.

Chapter Forty-Five****I went back to the dorm that night in shock.I don’t know what is really inside of me that made the door answer me. Not with words, not with light, but with something deeper: a pulse under my skin, a resonance in the blood. The door knows my touch. And the thought of that was soft and scary as it was, it pulled me like a tide. The next night, I sneaked out of my dorm under the cover of a thunderstorm, everyone in the academy was sleeping, the corridors drowned in shadow and the low noise of the wind through ancient stone. I moved like a ghost, retracing every steps, every turn down the forgotten eastern passage, my heart almost in my throat.I walked down the narrow stair, into the earth. The air grew thick with the scent of damp moss and old iron. The torches shining weakly, their flames guttering in unseen drafts. My breath was high, but my resolve was sharp. This time, I will touch the door again.I will try to open it. I said to myself while walking down

Chapter Forty-Four****The night was quiet.Too quiet for my liking. Everyone seemed to be resting after the stress of the day.But I was awake.Headmistress Morwen’s words still haunted me, pressing sharp against the back of my mind. I thoughtvshe has given uo on this, why again? She spoke of destiny as though it was a lock and I was the key, as though the world was nothing more than a door waiting to swing open under my hand. And the more I tried to push the thoughts away, the more restless I became, until I found myself wandering through the corridors with no direction. Then I saw her.Headmistress Morwen. Her tall figure moved quickly down the eastern wing, her robes whispering against the stone floor. She wasn’t walking with the casual pace of someone making their rounds. her steps were purposeful and urgent. What was she doing awake at this hour?I followed. My breath was shallow, my footsteps were light as I traced her down a passage I had never taken before. The air grew co
