Chapter 3

Author: Noorie
“Ares, what are you doing?” A sharp laugh cut through the quieted field. “Did you really rush over to cradle a defective little bunny over a tiny hit of mana?”

“Look at him,” another batchmate chimed in, smirking clearly audibly. “The great Ares, panicking because his servant got a little bruised. Molly’s blast wasn’t even full strength! If your bonded beast is that weak, maybe you’re just wasting your academic credits on a glass doll.”

The snickers rippled through the crowd like wildfire. Ares’s body went rigid. The warmth of his hands holding me up abruptly turned cold. The guilt in his eyes evaporated, instantly replaced by a wave of burning embarrassment as he looked up at his peers’ mocking faces.

He shoved me away.

Without his support, I hit the dusty ground, coughing up another crimson streak across the dirt.

“Tsk. Pathetic,” Ares snapped, his voice elevated so the whole crowd could hear him. He wiped his hands on his trousers as if touching me had dirtied him. “Getting knocked out by a stray wave of mana. You really are useless, Adria. Stop exaggerating and get up.”

Molly hurried to his side, sliding her hand into his arm with an apologetic, innocent pout. “I’m so sorry, Ares... I didn’t mean to expose how fragile she is in front of everyone.”

“It’s fine,” Ares said coldly, turning his back on me entirely. “She’s just weak. Let’s go, Molly.”

He walked away without looking back once.

My vision blurred into absolute darkness as the

cold ground swallowed my remaining strength.

When my eyes slowly fluttered open, the crisp, chemical smell of antiseptic filled my senses. White ceiling tiles. A soft, rhythmic pulse of a recovery charm nearby.

I was in the Academy’s Beast Hospital.

“Ah, you’re awake,” a nurse murmured, checking my spiritual veins. “You’ve been unconscious for three full days. That mana strike disrupted your internal core, but thankfully, you survived.”

Three days.

A quiet relief washed over me. Three days had passed. The contract time was up. Today was the day I was finally leaving.

I didn't wait. Despite the lingering ache in my chest, I pulled off the monitoring charms, gathered my few personal belongings, and signed my own discharge papers. I needed to pick up my two little kittens, pack our tiny bags, and vanish before the sun set.

As I walked down the white marble corridor toward the exit, heavy footsteps echoed from the opposite end.

Ares.

He was walking fast, his brow furrowed in a tight scowl, hand pressed firmly against his own chest. The moment his eyes landed on me, he stopped.

Through our fading bond, I could sense the faint phantom throb he felt—the spiritual link alerting him that his beast had suffered a severe physical shock. Because we were bonded, my organ damage had finally reverberated to him once the initial surge settled.

“Adria?” He took a step forward, his voice tense, eyes searching my pale face. “My chest... I felt a sharp pain just now. What happened to you? Are you alright?”

For a second, I saw a flicker of the boy I thought I knew. But it was far too late.

I kept my distance, my expression completely blank. I didn't glance at his eyes, nor did I let any weakness show in my posture.

“I’m fine,” I replied calmly, my voice steady and devoid of any emotion. “I just stumbled and twisted my leg on the way out. It’s nothing for you to worry about.”

Ares frowned, looking down at my feet, then back up at my face. “A twisted leg? But the pain felt—”

“It’s fine,” I interrupted softly.

I walked right past him, the distance between us widening with every step. I didn't look back to see his reaction, nor did I care if he felt the final, faint thread of our ten-year bond snap quietly into nothingness.

I picked up my kittens, took my small bundle of clothes, and walked out of the Academy gates—leaving Ares, his credits, and his precious master title far behind me.

  • Academy's Head's Rejected Beast Is a Prodigy Healer   Chapter 14

"Match over," the Head Arbiter’s voice cracked from the balcony, trembling through the sound-amplification spell. "By unanimous surrender and complete subjugation... Hades and Adria are declared Grand Tournament."A collective breath left the stadium, followed by a roar of whispers that quickly escalated into thunderous applause. The illusion was shattered. The grand hero of the Academy had fallen, not to a fluke, but to absolute, flawless synergy.Molly remained on the cold marble floor, weeping silently as the Academy medical corps rushed past her to haul Ares away on a stretcher. Ares cursed them, thrashing helplessly, his eyes locked onto me until the grand doors slammed shut behind him. He had lost his power, his status, and the only woman who had ever truly given him her heart.Three months laterThe morning mist curled softly around the spires of the Northern Citadel, far from the suffocating heat and politics of the Grand Academy. In the central courtyard, a new monument stood

"Don't look at me like that!" Ares roared, his voice cracking under the weight of thousands of staring eyes. "A stupid number on a crystal doesn't mean anything! I am the strongest warrior this Academy has produced in a decade!" He shoved Molly forward by her shoulder. "Molly, buff my blade! Now!"Molly stumbled, her face still paper-white from the towering 99% burning above us, but she frantically raised her hands. Her golden aura flared—brittle and flickering compared to before, but still potent. "Light’s Favor! Strength of the Sun!" she chanted, her voice trembling. A streak of brilliant gold wrapped around Ares’s burning sword, amplifying the heat until the air between us shimmered with heatwaves."We take them down together!" Ares barked. "I’ll split Hades in half, you keep the pressure on Adria!"Hades didn't even draw his dark sword. He simply stood in front of me, an immovable wall of black armor and absolute zero. "Stay close, Adria," he murmured, his voice a calm anchor in

"Adria," Ares called out, his voice raw, taking a half-step toward me. "Look at you... wasting your potential on a ghost. You cured him, fine. You proved your worth. But look around! I am seconds away from claiming the mantle of Head of the Academy!"He extended a hand toward me. "Leave him. Come to my side where you belong. We’ll rule the entire continent. You don't have to rot in that frozen wasteland with a relic of the past."Beside him, Molly’s face drained of color. "Ares!" she gasped, clutching his arm in disbelief. "What are you saying?!"Ares shoved Molly’s hand off his sleeve without a second glance, his burning gaze fixed entirely on Adria.I didn't flinch. I slowly raised my head, looking at him as if he were nothing more than a stain on the marble floor. A cold, disdainful smile touched my lips."Rule the continent with you?" I sneered, "I would rather rot in the deepest pit of the frozen territory than spend another second breathing the same air as you, Ares. You talk of

Three days later, the Great Arena of the High Academy was packed to absolute brim. Tens of thousands of spectating noblemen, grand elders, and powerful mages cheered, their voices shaking the massive enchanted pillars that held up the colosseum. Banners of deep crimson and gold flapped in the dry mountain wind, signaling the dominance of the Sun-Phoenix Faction.High upon the central balcony, the High Elders sat in a row of heavy velvet thrones, watching the final rounds of the tournament conclude.Down in the blood-stained ring, Ares stood with his head held high, a broad, arrogant grin plastered across his face. Sweat glistened on his broad shoulders, but he barely looked winded. At his feet lay the battered, unconscious body of the Academy’s top champion.Beside Ares stood Molly. She wore a gown of fine silk, her cheeks flushed with pride as she soaked in the roaring adulation of the crowd. A shimmering golden aura radiated from her body, pulsating in perfect harmony with Ares’s roa

Ares’s desperate expression froze. His golden eyes slowly drifted past my shoulder, falling upon the silent, motionless figure lying on the black frost-stone platform behind me.He noticed the delicate white thread of mana stretching from my chest, anchoring deeply into Hades’s heart. The desperate plea on Ares's face melted away, replaced by a dark, ugly, twisted grimace of humiliation and bitter rage."Is this why you refused me?" Ares sneered, his voice dropping an octave as his crimson mana flared back to life, scorching the star-lily garlands on the walls. "You left me... for a corpse?""Watch your tongue," Julian snapped, stepping forward."Shut up, stray!" Ares roared, throwing a wave of fiery pressure that forced Julian to brace his blade. Ares pointed a shaking, violent finger at Hades. "Look at him, Adria! He's a broken husk! A fallen tyrant who got himself poisoned like a pathetic fool three years ago! He can't even open his eyes!""He protected those who had no voice," I ye

He didn't wake up immediately. But he changed. The dark, corrupted mana veins that had crept up his throat receded, fading into faint, silver-tinged scars. Every morning, I sat beside the black frost-stone platform, holding his pale, calloused hand. I would focus my mana, weaving thin threads of pure, uncorrupted light into his shattered spirit realm. It was exhausting work. Healing a consciousness that had been fractured by dark-curse poison felt like rebuilding a glass tower in the middle of a storm.Yet, I was never alone. The beastfolk made sure of it.Peter, the little panda beast, would waddle in twice a day carrying wooden trays of hot, herb-infused broths meant to restore my depleted energy. Lady Foxy would sit near the foot of the platform, carefully brushing the dust from Hades’s robes and whispering updates about the sanctuary. Even Julian came by regularly, adjusting the ancient arrays around the chamber to ease the strain on my core."He moved his fingers today," I whispe
