Chapter 2

Author: Noorie
“You already have Molly by your side, Ares,” I replied, my voice calm. “You would definitely not need me anymore!”

“Am I bonded to her?” He spat, “You are feeding on my Academic credits, living under my house, enjoying the luxury earned on my merits, and you dare to talk back to me?”

“You are feeding on me, not Molly. I’m your bonded master. So, you will serve me. Molly is someone I adore. She isn’t here to do such a petty job. It's yours.”

I clenched the skirt under my palm as I refused to shed tears for someone who doesn't deserve it.

So, ten years of my service, a way to show him my affection, was just a petty job to him I was doing in return for what he was bound to provide his soul beast?

I wasn't a soul beast in his eyes. I was merely a servant; he thought he was paying well.

“Then take it!” I said, my voice low while my gaze remained fixed on the training field.

“Say that again!” Ares barked.

“I said take everything back you gave me. I no longer need them because I’m done serving you.” I replied with equal intensity.

A pin dropped, silent. Then, the whispers and snickers began.

“She really said it! To her own master?”

“What a shame!”

“How dare she talk back to her own master?”

“That little bunny has got nerves.”

Hearing his batchmates talking behind him and actually making fun of him under their sleeves, Ares’s blood ran cold in his head. He bit his lips before yelling, “You don't need my protection anymore? Fine! Then let's see how you save those weak kittens once I take my shield back.”

“No!” I cried, “Do not touch them. They are innocent.”

“Innocent and weak!” He leaned closer as he whispered, “Just like you. They should have already been eaten by big beasts to boost their energy.”

By the Academy’s rule, if any beast was born with no spiritual power, they were considered defective and would be discarded by the Academy, to be hunted and fed by others.

I happened to save two such kittens who were too small and cute. I had been raising them for a year, and because I was Ares’s spiritual beast, no one dared hunt them.

But if he would take his protection back, I couldn't assume what would come of them. After raising them for a year, I had a deep bond with them, and I didn't want them to die.

I looked back at Ares as I sighed, “Fine, I’ll just do my job then.”

I’m leaving you in three days anyway. Till then, I can do it for the sake of my kittens.

I grabbed a towel lying nearby and was about to wipe the sweat off his forehead when he grabbed my arms.

“Not mine,” he said, “Molly is sweating. Go wipe her body.”

His gaze remained fixed on me throughout as I turned and quietly walked in Molly’s direction. But she happened to be releasing a strong Mana whose direction was just at me.

Someone screamed from behind, “Watch out!”

It was Ares’s voice. But it was too late. The mana hit straight to my chest, making me cough a mouthful of blood before I lost control over myself.

“Adria… are you okay?”

I heard Ares’s voice, laced with genuine care and guilt as he rushed to hold me in his arms.

Molly ran up to me, breathing heavily, “I swear it was a mistake, Ares!”

“I didn't know Adria was coming in my direction.”

Ares didn't look at her. His gaze remained fixed on me. “Adria, are you alright?”

"Match over," the Head Arbiter’s voice cracked from the balcony, trembling through the sound-amplification spell. "By unanimous surrender and complete subjugation... Hades and Adria are declared Grand Tournament."A collective breath left the stadium, followed by a roar of whispers that quickly escalated into thunderous applause. The illusion was shattered. The grand hero of the Academy had fallen, not to a fluke, but to absolute, flawless synergy.Molly remained on the cold marble floor, weeping silently as the Academy medical corps rushed past her to haul Ares away on a stretcher. Ares cursed them, thrashing helplessly, his eyes locked onto me until the grand doors slammed shut behind him. He had lost his power, his status, and the only woman who had ever truly given him her heart.Three months laterThe morning mist curled softly around the spires of the Northern Citadel, far from the suffocating heat and politics of the Grand Academy. In the central courtyard, a new monument stood

"Don't look at me like that!" Ares roared, his voice cracking under the weight of thousands of staring eyes. "A stupid number on a crystal doesn't mean anything! I am the strongest warrior this Academy has produced in a decade!" He shoved Molly forward by her shoulder. "Molly, buff my blade! Now!"Molly stumbled, her face still paper-white from the towering 99% burning above us, but she frantically raised her hands. Her golden aura flared—brittle and flickering compared to before, but still potent. "Light’s Favor! Strength of the Sun!" she chanted, her voice trembling. A streak of brilliant gold wrapped around Ares’s burning sword, amplifying the heat until the air between us shimmered with heatwaves."We take them down together!" Ares barked. "I’ll split Hades in half, you keep the pressure on Adria!"Hades didn't even draw his dark sword. He simply stood in front of me, an immovable wall of black armor and absolute zero. "Stay close, Adria," he murmured, his voice a calm anchor in

"Adria," Ares called out, his voice raw, taking a half-step toward me. "Look at you... wasting your potential on a ghost. You cured him, fine. You proved your worth. But look around! I am seconds away from claiming the mantle of Head of the Academy!"He extended a hand toward me. "Leave him. Come to my side where you belong. We’ll rule the entire continent. You don't have to rot in that frozen wasteland with a relic of the past."Beside him, Molly’s face drained of color. "Ares!" she gasped, clutching his arm in disbelief. "What are you saying?!"Ares shoved Molly’s hand off his sleeve without a second glance, his burning gaze fixed entirely on Adria.I didn't flinch. I slowly raised my head, looking at him as if he were nothing more than a stain on the marble floor. A cold, disdainful smile touched my lips."Rule the continent with you?" I sneered, "I would rather rot in the deepest pit of the frozen territory than spend another second breathing the same air as you, Ares. You talk of

Three days later, the Great Arena of the High Academy was packed to absolute brim. Tens of thousands of spectating noblemen, grand elders, and powerful mages cheered, their voices shaking the massive enchanted pillars that held up the colosseum. Banners of deep crimson and gold flapped in the dry mountain wind, signaling the dominance of the Sun-Phoenix Faction.High upon the central balcony, the High Elders sat in a row of heavy velvet thrones, watching the final rounds of the tournament conclude.Down in the blood-stained ring, Ares stood with his head held high, a broad, arrogant grin plastered across his face. Sweat glistened on his broad shoulders, but he barely looked winded. At his feet lay the battered, unconscious body of the Academy’s top champion.Beside Ares stood Molly. She wore a gown of fine silk, her cheeks flushed with pride as she soaked in the roaring adulation of the crowd. A shimmering golden aura radiated from her body, pulsating in perfect harmony with Ares’s roa

Ares’s desperate expression froze. His golden eyes slowly drifted past my shoulder, falling upon the silent, motionless figure lying on the black frost-stone platform behind me.He noticed the delicate white thread of mana stretching from my chest, anchoring deeply into Hades’s heart. The desperate plea on Ares's face melted away, replaced by a dark, ugly, twisted grimace of humiliation and bitter rage."Is this why you refused me?" Ares sneered, his voice dropping an octave as his crimson mana flared back to life, scorching the star-lily garlands on the walls. "You left me... for a corpse?""Watch your tongue," Julian snapped, stepping forward."Shut up, stray!" Ares roared, throwing a wave of fiery pressure that forced Julian to brace his blade. Ares pointed a shaking, violent finger at Hades. "Look at him, Adria! He's a broken husk! A fallen tyrant who got himself poisoned like a pathetic fool three years ago! He can't even open his eyes!""He protected those who had no voice," I ye

He didn't wake up immediately. But he changed. The dark, corrupted mana veins that had crept up his throat receded, fading into faint, silver-tinged scars. Every morning, I sat beside the black frost-stone platform, holding his pale, calloused hand. I would focus my mana, weaving thin threads of pure, uncorrupted light into his shattered spirit realm. It was exhausting work. Healing a consciousness that had been fractured by dark-curse poison felt like rebuilding a glass tower in the middle of a storm.Yet, I was never alone. The beastfolk made sure of it.Peter, the little panda beast, would waddle in twice a day carrying wooden trays of hot, herb-infused broths meant to restore my depleted energy. Lady Foxy would sit near the foot of the platform, carefully brushing the dust from Hades’s robes and whispering updates about the sanctuary. Even Julian came by regularly, adjusting the ancient arrays around the chamber to ease the strain on my core."He moved his fingers today," I whispe
