He’d guessed correctly.

I’d planned to pin the office incident on him. Taking the B&G project came with consequences I didn’t want to shoulder. I intended to make Derek swallow every blow. I wanted him to suffer for it.

“He’s been sneaky with the business, and I want to outplay him,” I said, reaching for the bandage wrapped around my head but Ryker stopped my hand with a quick, gentle grip.

“Careful. You don’t want to reopen it,” he said, voice soft. “Does it still hurt?”

“No.” I tried to pull my wrist free, but he held on.

His eyes searched mine while he kept my hand. “Was this injury part of your plan?” he asked.

“Not exactly.” I scratched the back of my head and shrugged. “I wanted to rile him so he’d get physical…but this turned out even better than I’d hoped.”

He let go almost too fast.

“…He exceeded my expectations. He’s always been like that though. Getting mad as quickly as getting turned on.” I added, trying to make it sound casual.

    >____Ryker didn’t come back with a friendly expression, and I didn’t bother asking him about the files. He looked… off. Tense. Angry, like he wanted to snap someone’s head. Whatever he went out to do today, ruined his mood and it wasn’t something he wanted me to know.He stayed in a separate room all day, barely coming out. Only occasionally, he checked my temperature.“Your temperature is getting better. Any aches?” He had asked, tone not very warm. I shook my head, staring up at him. “No aches.”He didn’t reply, just adjusted the blanket around my shoulders, and left.I spent the next few hours staring at the wall, surfing the internet, trying to catch some sleep, and whatnot. All to pass the time. And it worked because a fair amount of hours rolled by. Then, it was time for the rehearsal dinner. Time to face Derek again—probably get an earful about how I almost made the groom lose his ability to get a woman pregnant. Slowly, I got off the bed, moving toward

    >__"Dad, you know how adamant she is. She'd never agree to stop working for you unless you tell her." I said, watching my father from across the desk as he flipped through a file. He kept his face, like my words were nothing more than paper noise. And it wasn't unexpected. I forced out a laugh, but it lacked humor. "That's right. You wouldn't do that. You enjoy seeing her around as your little maid even if it places her in the wrong spot. Even if it hurts her."This time he shut the file and met my stare with his calm, unreadable eyes. "You don't know that.""I do," I placed my elbows on the armrest of the chair, never looking away. "And I'm sure you also know how bad my mother has been treated by Catherine for the past years. Mom's crime was to be so stupidly and blindly in love with someone's husband, giving him a son and still staying as a serving maid in his house like she can't live without him."My father's mouth tightened."That was your mother's choice. No

Crying in the rain had been something I did on impulse, one of those dramatic things you do because it feels right in the moment. But, like most of my impulsive decisions, it turned out to be a terrible idea. The next morning, I woke up with a sore throat, a throbbing headache, and a cold that made me sound like a dying frog.I ended up staying in bed almost the entire day.Not that it was such a bad place to be. The bed was soft, wrapped in white linen, and faced with a scenic view. It was the kind of view you'd expect in a resort.Ryker had really outdone himself with this luxurious suite. A cozy bed, a reading desk tucked by the window, a small tea table on the balcony with two chairs, and a soft rug. Everything felt so... intimate.Almost like a honeymoon suite.Don't get me wrong, it wasn't supposed to be one. But it felt like that. He'd woken me up earlier with a gentle, lingering kiss. Then he came with breakfast: a tray set neatly on my lap, piled with a bowl of warm oatmeal d

I didn't know where I was going. I just knew I had to move. The slap still burned on my cheek, hot and raw, and my eyes hurt from holding in too many tears. I slipped off my heels and held them in one hand. The pavement was cool under my bare feet, smooth in some parts and rough in others, but I didn't care. I just wanted to feel something that wasn't pain inside my chest. The hotel compound was quiet and dim, with only a few yellow lights glowing from a distance. While the others were still in the hall celebrating, I washed away in my own despair. The night felt like it was pressing down on me, but I kept walking. My hair clung to the sides of my face, the wind brushing through it, but it didn't soothe this bubbling rise of emotions building up.I thought about everything.Everything that had gone wrong. My life had become one big mess. A slow, painful crash I couldn't stop watching. There was cancer waiting on the side, like a reminder that wouldn't go away, waiting to claim what

"Hey, I'll be back," Ryker said, as he tucked my undies inside his pants pocket. "Need to go see my dad. Stay here. I'll make it quick. " I stared up at him, watching him kidnap my innocent G-string while I was left bare underneath my gown. He placed a little peck on my cheek, forehead, and then, a kiss on my lips before leaving. Even the sight of his back made my stomach release so many butterflies. Couldn't believe such a handsome, tall, and brooding man would be on his knees, pleasuring me, exchanging saliva and..Oh God.That was so... embarrassingly new. And tingling all at once. Never experienced such a deep level of intimacy with anyone else before. And it wasn't that bad. I let out a sigh, waiting obediently. But I couldn't deny that the rooftop felt empty without Ryker. The air still smelled like his cologne. Or maybe it was just the remnant of cologne from his suit that had been wrapped around me a few minutes ago.He said he'd be back soon. That I should wait. But th

I subconsciously wiped the remnant off my lip with my tongue. But it only seemed to have caused trouble. "Fuck, stop doing that." Ryker's eyes shone with lust. "Else I'll bend you over and fuck you, with the cold biting into your skin."I wanted to think he wouldn't be so wild as to engage in stuff like that. But this was Ryker Holland. He had little to no care about the world. And I was tempted to know. Fucking outside, with the possibilities of someone intruding. The thrill shouldn't excite me. But it did. I let my tongue slowly brush against my lower lip, before sucking on it.His eyes darkened."Now, you're asking for it."His lips crashed against mine. "You. Are. So. Stubborn." With every word that came out of his mouth, he bit on my lip so hard I thought he would draw blood.I whimpered against his lips, his body towered over me, blocking everything else so he was the only thing I could see. His hot, relentless tongue swirled around mine with an urgency that made me go wil
