Chapter 950

Author: Summer Knowles
Steven gritted his teeth, eyes bloodshot. “What kind of cooperation? What do you really want?”

The middle-aged man gave a faint smile. “It’s simple. The Rons Group. Zachary trusts you the most. Just imagine what a betrayal from you would do to him.”

“Don’t even think about it!” Steven tried to stand, but his hands were still bound tightly.

The man didn’t seem fazed. Instead, he called out, “Bring it in.”

A subordinate walked in carrying a tablet. The man took it, placed it on a low stool in front of Steven, and secured it in place.

“It’s fine if you refuse. Just sit back and enjoy the show.”

He tapped the screen and turned to leave. As he reached the door, he paused and added, “Oh, right. You probably didn’t know. That girl was staying at Sarah’s house. We couldn’t touch her there. But then we used your phone to send her a text. She came running. Walked right into that private room, saw all those men, and still asked how you were doing. Can you believe that?”

Melvin stared at the phone in confusion. “It’s still connected, but no one’s saying anything?”Sarah nodded as she looked at the ongoing call on her screen. “What does that mean, Melvin?”“Location tracking,” he replied flatly.Outside Dusk Bar, two cars screeched to a stop. Sarah and Melvin jumped out and rushed inside. They walked right into a commotion.“Why can’t we go into Room 308? I just looked—there’s only one girl in there. Do you know who we are? Our boss wants that room. Kick the girl out, now!” a drunken thug shouted, slurring his words.Surrounded but calm, the bar manager tried to defuse the tension. “Sir, this is a business establishment. That room was paid for, and it’s our duty to protect our guest’s rights.”“She’s passed out, isn’t she? Just drag her out!”Sarah’s face darkened. She shoved her way through the group and turned to the manager. “Where is the girl? I know her.”The manager gave her a complicated look before leading them to the third floor. In f

Scarlett's cries echoed with desperation, but her eyes gradually lost focus. Silent tears slipped down her cheeks. She knew—at this point, tears were useless. Her lips moved, barely audible. “Help me.”She regretted everything. Regretted coming here alone. Regretted not telling Sarah before she left.---The abandoned house reeked of mold.Steven was covered in bruises, tied up, and breathing heavily. His face was battered, a gash split open on his brow. He’d been locked up here for three full days. Every day, they beat him. At first, he fought back out of instinct, but eventually, all he could do was endure it.Three days ago, he had come to the old house looking for something. It had been years since he last stepped foot here. The place he once called home had long been emptied out. No one had taken care of it. Moss blanketed the walls, and thick dust coated every surface.Coming back only stirred up old grief. There was no one left here to wait for him.He was only here now

Scarlett’s fingers flew across her phone screen, trying to call Sarah. But the man beside her had already figured out what she was doing. With a swift motion, he snatched the phone from her hands.“I don’t think you’re stupid. We’re all adults here. You should know exactly what we want,” he said, his tone slow and mocking. “If you behave and cooperate, everyone has a good time. You’ll get to leave sooner—and with less pain. Sounds fair, doesn’t it?”The man with the bleached hair stepped closer, gripping her trembling wrist and yanking her toward him. “Don’t move.”“Who sent you? Where’s Steven? Why do you have his phone? What did you do to him?” Scarlett cried, her voice rising with panic. “Do you even know who he works for? Zachary won’t let you get away with this!”Tears streamed down her face. Even in this terrifying moment, her thoughts were still on Steven. Somewhere deep down, she already knew these men weren’t going to let her go. But her first instinct was still to protect

Ever since the Christmas party, Scarlett had noticed something off about Steven. He often woke up in the middle of the night, gasping from nightmares. She picked up her phone and dialed his number again. She had tried countless times over the past few days, but not once had it gone through. As expected, the call didn’t connect.Exhausted, she set her phone on the nightstand. Suddenly, a vibration and a soft notification sound made her body jolt. She quickly grabbed the phone and lit up the screen. It was a text message—and the sender made her sit up straight in bed.It was him. Steven. Her fingers trembled so badly she could barely tap the screen. It took all her strength just to open the message.‘Scarlett, I’m at Dusk Bar on Xilin Street. Come get me right now. Don’t tell anyone. Especially not Sarah. I’ve found something. I’ll explain when I see you.’It was only a few lines, but it took Scarlett a full five minutes to fully process what he meant. She called him again, but

The sky over the East Coast was heavy with dark clouds. A cold wind howled as rain began to fall. The entire city was shrouded in mist and drizzle. Inside the apartment, Sarah drew the curtains closed and took a sip of hot water. It was nearly ten o’clock at night, and Melvin still hadn’t come home. Maybe something had happened at work again. This had been going on for days now. Whenever she asked, he always brushed it off and refused to explain. She had only just begun to enjoy a few days of peace, recovering quietly at home. And now, trouble had come knocking again.A sharp, urgent knock echoed through the apartment. The door swung open to reveal Scarlett, her face filled with worry, eyes glistening with unshed tears.Startled, Sarah rushed over and pulled her onto the couch. “Scarlett, what’s wrong?”Scarlett tried to keep it together, but her voice broke. “It’s Steven,” she choked out, tears falling freely. “He’s missing.”Sarah’s expression turned serious. “What do you mean
