Emelia's POV

Over the course of the next few days, I immersed myself into my work as I prepared the new office space for all of my future colleagues. Even though it took an additional two days of settling it with the bank, before I knew it, I'd secured the loan for the new building.

Now I was out with Alexis, deciding on all the interior design for the office—from the wall paint, the floorings, to the furniture, and everything in between.

"So, Em, what kind of flooring were you thinking for the space?" Alexis eyed the different panels in front of us. "There's a lot to choose from and honestly... it's making my head hurt."

I laughed. "Well, luckily I already have a plan in mind for each of the rooms and different spaces."

"Oh, is that so?" Alexis tilted her head to the side. "Do, tell, bestie, because I've always wondered how that design brain of yours thinks."

"Well, let's start with the lobby and reception area—the first place everyone sees. To me, I think it's important that people w

Emelia's POVJust a little earlier, I finally told myself that I was tired of sitting in an empty office waiting for Alexis to come back with our food. So, I sent a text to her saying that I'd meet up with her wherever she'd settled on.Alexis told me that she'd gone to a sub shop that was just a few doors down from my storefront, and that she'd unlock her car if I wanted to wait in there.I shrugged my shoulders and decided I'd do just that.As I tapped away at my phone, scrolling through my emails, the sound of a car door opening jolted me from my task."Phew! Sorry for keeping you waiting. Ugh, the line was sooooo long!"I giggled. "I may have been gone for two years, but I know NOT to go to Sally's Sunrise Sandwiches on a Thursday!""Look, to be fair, I forgot that they had their $3 meal deal and—" Alexis stopped suddenly as the smile on her face dropped. My heart froze in my chest while the air around us became thick with trepidation. I kept my vision straight at her, unwilling to

Victor's POVIf looks could kill, I would've asked the intern where he preferred to be buried. Instead, I was following him around the busy, chaotic streets as he trembled with every step he took.Pathetic, I thought.I'm unsure what my recruiters down in HR were thinking with hiring this intern, but I knew I'd have more than a few choice words with them. If they were lucky, they might still have their job.But I couldn't think about that. Not right now, at least. Because the familiar signs of the various neighboring shops and nooks signaled the impending arrival of my storefront. My heart began to race in anticipation. Endless sweat had to be wiped subtly on my pants leg as I fidgeted with the edges of my blazer. As we rounded the corner, my eyes caught my storefront to the left. A stone facade encased tall windows in metal framings. The inside lighting was warm as it shone off the dark wood casings where all the jewelry laid on display, as a glass chandelier hung right at the entrywa

Victor's POVStress frayed the edges of every nerve in my body. The countless meetings with the board were trying the last of my patience, but it wasn't until an emergency meeting with the shareholders was sprung on me that I knew the true test lay just ahead. The truth of the matter was that I was a complete train wreck. Internally, at least. On the outside, I was the same brooding CEO I had been over the course of the last two years. The inside of my mind was the equivalent of a rage room, filled with the smashed pieces of my mind and heart scattered over the floor. Each weapon of self-doubt and grief that I'd used to beat myself up was laid broken in two.Still, I had to hold it together. Even now more than ever now that the shareholders were involved. And boy, were they pissed. Well, at least Layla was. Which, with her being my leading investor meant that her anger mattered the most and she needed to be placated fast."Stock prices have been fluctuating, and record-high profits hav

Emelia's POVI decided to wait until we got to the hotel to tell Alexis what I'd seen at the red light. While I knew we weren't being followed, something under my skin couldn't shake the feeling away of being watched.Victor's network and reach extended well all over the city and the neighboring ones around us. It meant that it was only a matter of time until he actually figured out that I was home. But I was hoping that it wouldn't be for another few months or so… Not when I JUST stepped off the plane a few hours ago.The hotel room was spacious as we stepped into the entryway. We took our shoes off and put on the complimentary slippers as we then made our way into the bedroom.I tossed my luggage onto the bed and began to nervously unpack everything. My nerves were still on edge as my hands shook with everything I picked up.Then a gentle hand rested on mine. When I looked up, I saw Alexis looking at me with concern."You're shaking like a chihuahua, and you're as pale as a ghost." H

Victor's POVAfter I'd put Violet down for her nap, I left the house again. I needed to get more work done, but I honestly didn't want to go wherever Lily could potentially find me.If anything, I still felt drained after our earlier encounter, so I opted for a coffee shop that was in the downtown district.Traffic was horrible as it always was, but I wasn't in any particular hurry today. As I came to a red light, I took a deep breath to try and calm my racing mind.I truly had no idea what I was going to do with the rival business that was set to touch down in Greenport anytime now. This industry was cutthroat, but I was more interested in making a potential friend and collaborator than an enemy. With how much their influence was already affecting the market, I couldn't afford to make yet another enemy. I had enough of those in my personal life anyway.I looked up at the red light and sighed. Has it always taken this long? It wasn't even rush hour.As I continued to sit there, I could
