Chapter 5

Author: Perfect Timing
When Yasmine opened her eyes again, she was in a hospital.

The sharp scent of disinfectant filled her nose. Before she could open her eyes fully, she heard Yara’s low voice.

“Leo, even though Noah cried a few times when he found out about the pregnancy, this child is your own flesh and blood. You don’t always have to think only of us.”

Yara knew exactly how to play her cards.

Leo’s answer was firm.

“No. This child can’t stay.

“I’ll tell Yasmine the baby has problems and convince her to get rid of it. Noah is insecure. I can’t let him feel hurt.”

He comforted Yara a little more, then turned around, only to lock eyes with Yasmine.

For a moment, panic flickered across his face.

“Yasmine, y-you’re awake? When did you wake up? Why didn’t you say anything?”

Her voice was hoarse when she spoke.

“Just now.”

“Then… did you hear what the doctor said?”

The way he tested her made Yasmine’s lips curl in mockery. “I didn’t hear anything. Weren’t you the only one in here just now?”

Relief washed over him. After a pause, he said carefully, “Yasmine, you’re pregnant. Two months already.

“But the doctor told me the baby might not be developing well. He suggested we end it. Do you agree?”

He looked a little guilty.

He knew how long she had dreamed of having a child that was theirs.

But for Noah’s sake, he had no choice.

He had even prepared fake test results because he was certain Yasmine would refuse.

But before he could take them out, Yasmine said softly, “Alright.”

He almost thought he had misheard her.

“What did you say?”

Calmly, Yasmine said, “I said that’s alright. Let’s get rid of the baby.”

To be born into such a cruel family was a curse in itself.

Leo did not want a child who would threaten Noah’s inheritance. She did not want a child who would have to fight for their own father’s love.

A baby deserved everything good in the world.

If the baby could not have that, then it was better not to be born at all.

Leo stared at Yasmine. He was unsettled by how decisive she was.

Something about her felt different, though he could not put his finger on it. He told himself he was just imagining it.

She was still obedient and compliant. That should have made him happy.

The abortion went ahead as planned.

For Yasmine, it was the first since she returned to the past, but it was the eleventh time across both lifetimes.

As the warm blood seeped out of her, her eyes grew red despite her efforts to hold back her tears.

Leo held her hand and comforted her. “Don’t be sad, Yasmine. We’ll have more children.”

They both knew it was a lie.

There would never be another.

Yasmine said nothing. Leo ran out of words.

The air between them turned awkward.

And yet, compared to the chaos of recent years, the quiet almost felt like a relief.

Ever since Yara and Noah had moved into their small courtyard house, Yasmine had seemed like a different person. She had always been fussy before.

Looking at her pale face, a flicker of pity softened Leo’s eyes.

He was just about to tell her that he would treat her better and not to overthink this when the door suddenly opened.

Yara walked in with a lunchbox and smiled brightly.

“Yasmine’s been through so much. I went to the state-run restaurant to buy some food to help her recover.”

The tin lunchbox was crammed with greasy fried chicken, a slab of meatloaf, and even a side of garlic butter shrimp.

Yasmine felt nauseous with just one glance.

But Leo looked relieved and placed the lunchbox in front of Yasmine without hesitation.

“Yara, these dishes are so hard to get! After everything Yasmine put you through, you still are thoughtful. That’s very kind of you.”

Then, he winked at Yasmine. He was probably hinting that she should thank Yara.

Yasmine ignored him.

She knew exactly what he meant. Yara had given her a way out, and Leo wanted her to play along and take it.

But why should she?

She had done nothing wrong. The ones who were truly disgraceful were Leo and Yara.

When Yasmine stayed silent, Yara jumped in smoothly.

“Yeah, I waited in line so long my legs cramped up.”

As she spoke, she casually lifted the hem of her dress.

Leo’s eyes fell on her smooth, bare legs, and his gaze darkened.

“Yasmine, you eat first. I’ll take Yara to the doctor for her cramps. After all, she stood in line for you.”

Yasmine stayed silent, disgust churning inside her.

She knew he had gone to hook up with Yara, again.

Noah read the letter Yara had left him.[It’s all Leo’s fault. He lied to me. He was supposed to take care of us for life!]His breath caught in his throat, and he rushed to Leo’s place. It was a place he had avoided for years. The grounds were already crowded with people. He saw Yara pinned to the ground. She was wild-eyed as she yelled, “It’s him! He’s the shameless one! Why’s he only blaming me? “He was the one who wanted to deceive Yasmine. So, why was I the one who was kicked out? Why didn’t he take care of me and Noah? “My baby! Give me back my baby!”A few paces away lay a bloodstained knife and Leo, who was covered in blood.Noah was terrified, yet he forced himself to inch closer. His uncle, who had once seemed as powerful as his father, had gray hair and had withered to skin and bones.Leo was barely alive. When he saw Noah, tears streamed down his face. “Noah, this is what I deserve. I deceived her for more than fifty years! I owe her my life. “The Quinton fa

After that, Yasmine took Quill’s arm and did not spare Leo even a glance. Leo had disappeared from her life completely. Yasmine felt satisfied. She and Quill went to the central station together and became the most famous husband-and-wife duo on television. Everyone knew them as the most skilled and dedicated hosts. Quill never hindered Yasmine’s career. He stood right by her side. Two years later, Yasmine had a daughter. Quill immediately announced that he was quitting his job to stay home to take care of the family. People claimed that Yasmine was blessed to find such a good husband. Quill said, “I’m the lucky one. Winning Yasmine’s love is my greatest blessing. I don’t ever want someone else to take her away.”Yasmine smiled in joy.Later, she took her daughter back to her hometown to see Emma. One day, while out shopping, a dirty little beggar handed her a flower. Yasmine thought he looked familiar. She was about to ask who he was, but he ran off. That boy was N

“Please… please forgive me.” Leo’s voice was low and desperate. In the crowd, whispers arose. “Look at him, a man kneeling like that! He must really feel guilty.” “He looks familiar. Isn’t he the commander who got injured on duty a few years back? Commander Quinton? Girl, maybe think it over. He’s a war hero.” “Yeah, he just lost his way for a while.”Hearing the voices lean in his favor, hope flickered in Leo’s heart. He carefully pulled a small box from his coat and held it out to Yasmine like an offering. There was a flawless jade bracelet inside. One look at the quality and anyone could tell it was not a common jewelry. With his meager pension after being discharged, he must have saved for years to afford something like that.“Yasmine, I broke your bracelet back then. Please, take this as a token of my apology.”He left out the fact that the broken bracelet had been her late mother’s keepsake. To the bystanders, it only made him look more sincere.“Take it, girl

Leo had no answer to Yasmine’s harsh words. No one knew better than he did how terribly wrong he had been.He had betrayed her and left the woman who had loved him broken and scarred. Even if Yara had conspired, it was still his own weakness that had let everything happen. But letting her go was something he could not do.Leo said stubbornly, “I know you’re still angry with me. Yasmine, let’s start over. Give me a chance to win you back!”He was too afraid to hear her refusal, so he left as soon as he said his piece.Yasmine watched his hurry out and disappear. She was speechless and frustrated. She had not told him that she was already married.‘Win me back?’ The thought itself was laughable. She did not give it another moment of thought. Anyway, in a few days, her husband would come to take her home. She had not expected that Leo would find out where she lived. Every day, he showed up outside with a bouquet of roses. When people asked what he was doing, he said he was

Emma heard his voice, and her face darkened.“What are you doing here? You’re not welcome here!”She moved to shut the door to try to stop Leo from coming in.Leo’s gaze was fixed on Yasmine, and his eyes were filled with desperate hope.He wanted her to come back to him. He wanted her to say that she had missed him too.But the woman he longed for did not spare him a single glance.“Ms. Larson, don’t waste your energy on someone who doesn’t matter.” Yasmine smiled softly. With Leo’s wounded eyes on her, she closed the door as if he had not been there at all.Emma’s face softened, and she looked at Yasmine in approval.“So, you truly don’t care about him anymore?”Yasmine nodded. Strong feelings like love or hate would only wear a person down. Leo was not worth her emotions.Emma looked pleased. The student she had raised had finally grown so mature. After the birthday celebration, Yasmine got ready to leave. When she opened the door, she saw that Leo was still the

When she returned, she happened to arrive just as new policies were rolled out, and the central station recruited her to lead their promotional work. She was no longer the woman who once spent her days as a worn-out housewife and who had given everything to the Quinton family. This place, after all, had not been entirely sorrowful.Emma, for instance, had been both a mentor and a mother to her.Yasmine had never lost touch with her.
