Chapter 6

Author: Perfect Timing
Yasmine said calmly, “Fine. Go ahead.”

The next two days passed the same way.

Whenever Yara came by with food, she would complain about one ache or another, and Leo would take her out for a “check-up.”

The meals Yara brought were things Yasmine could not stomach, but Leo never paid them any mind.

After three days in the hospital, Yasmine had lost a lot of weight.

Even the nurses began looking at her with pity.

She only gave them a faint, grateful smile and showed no sign of sadness.

Maybe she had grown numb to it all. Even if she saw Leo and Yara in bed with her own eyes, her heart would not stir again.

She thought she had already had enough of it. She wanted to wait a little longer before she left for good. But she had not expected that someone still saw her as a thorn in their side.

When she returned from the hospital, she found that her packed bag had been rifled through.

A sense of dread washed over her. She rushed to check and realized that the jade bracelet she had hidden at the bottom was gone.

Her parents had loved each other so much. Her father gave his life for the country when she was still a child, and her mother spent the rest of her life alone.

That bracelet was her father’s gift and a symbol of his devotion to her mother. It was the one thing her mother had held onto all her life.

On her deathbed, her mother had given it to Leo. She had asked him to put it on Yasmine’s wrist and swear to treat her well for life.

Leo had said, “If I ever fail Yasmine, may I lose everyone and witness my family’s ruin.”

Yasmine had quickly covered his mouth to stop him.

Back then, she had truly believed him.

It was only after learning he had deceived her all along that she took the bracelet off.

But where had the bracelet gone?

She tore through the house in panic and searched every corner.

Then, she spotted Noah in the yard playing with his friends. Dangling carelessly from his hand was her bracelet.

Her heart jumped to her throat.

“Noah, give that bracelet back to me!”

Noah turned and made a face at her.

“Even my mom doesn’t have something like this! Why should I give it to you?

“I’d rather smash it than let you wear it. La-la-la!”

He tossed the bracelet to the ground.

With a sharp crack, it shattered into pieces. He was not satisfied with that, and he stomped on the shards.

“Stupid bracelet! Here, take it! Pick it up yourself!”

The last thread of Yasmine’s reason snapped.

She rushed forward and slapped Noah across his smug little face.

He fell to the ground and sobbed loudly.

“You trash! You hit me! I’ll tell Dad to kick you out!”

“Yasmine, you’re mistreating Noah again?!”

Just as Yasmine leaned down to gather the broken pieces, Leo slapped her so hard that she fell to the ground.

The jagged shards cut deep into her palm, and blood oozed from her hand.

Leo did not even look at her. He went straight to Noah, gathered him into his arms, and comforted him.

“Noah, this is all your Auntie Yasmine’s fault. I’ll make her apologize.”

But Yasmine refused to do so.

“He’s the one who broke my bracelet! Do you have any idea what that meant to my mother—”

Leo cut her off impatiently and said, “Your mother is dead! It’s just a bracelet. I can buy you another!”

Yasmine staggered back. She was unsteady on her feet.

Leo realized he had gone too far. For a moment, guilt flickered in his eyes.

But it vanished the instant he saw tears well up in Yara’s eyes.

“Leo, maybe Noah and I should move out. I can take care of him myself. We don’t want to get in your way.”

He looked at Yara and thought she was trying to hold her pain back and was only thinking of him. Then, he looked at Yasmine, who seemed cold and unyielding.

Disappointment filled him.

“Yasmine, I’ll ask you one last time. Will you apologize to Noah?”

“I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?”

“Fine. Fine! Your temper’s gotten out of control lately. Don’t blame me for what happens next.”

Leo let out a bitter chuckle and picked up his phone.

“I suspect Yasmine has ties to foreign agents and is leaking state secrets. Take her in for interrogation.”

The “evidence” he handed over was nothing but letters from the foreign professor Emma had arranged for her studies.

Noah read the letter Yara had left him.[It’s all Leo’s fault. He lied to me. He was supposed to take care of us for life!]His breath caught in his throat, and he rushed to Leo’s place. It was a place he had avoided for years. The grounds were already crowded with people. He saw Yara pinned to the ground. She was wild-eyed as she yelled, “It’s him! He’s the shameless one! Why’s he only blaming me? “He was the one who wanted to deceive Yasmine. So, why was I the one who was kicked out? Why didn’t he take care of me and Noah? “My baby! Give me back my baby!”A few paces away lay a bloodstained knife and Leo, who was covered in blood.Noah was terrified, yet he forced himself to inch closer. His uncle, who had once seemed as powerful as his father, had gray hair and had withered to skin and bones.Leo was barely alive. When he saw Noah, tears streamed down his face. “Noah, this is what I deserve. I deceived her for more than fifty years! I owe her my life. “The Quinton fa

After that, Yasmine took Quill’s arm and did not spare Leo even a glance. Leo had disappeared from her life completely. Yasmine felt satisfied. She and Quill went to the central station together and became the most famous husband-and-wife duo on television. Everyone knew them as the most skilled and dedicated hosts. Quill never hindered Yasmine’s career. He stood right by her side. Two years later, Yasmine had a daughter. Quill immediately announced that he was quitting his job to stay home to take care of the family. People claimed that Yasmine was blessed to find such a good husband. Quill said, “I’m the lucky one. Winning Yasmine’s love is my greatest blessing. I don’t ever want someone else to take her away.”Yasmine smiled in joy.Later, she took her daughter back to her hometown to see Emma. One day, while out shopping, a dirty little beggar handed her a flower. Yasmine thought he looked familiar. She was about to ask who he was, but he ran off. That boy was N

“Please… please forgive me.” Leo’s voice was low and desperate. In the crowd, whispers arose. “Look at him, a man kneeling like that! He must really feel guilty.” “He looks familiar. Isn’t he the commander who got injured on duty a few years back? Commander Quinton? Girl, maybe think it over. He’s a war hero.” “Yeah, he just lost his way for a while.”Hearing the voices lean in his favor, hope flickered in Leo’s heart. He carefully pulled a small box from his coat and held it out to Yasmine like an offering. There was a flawless jade bracelet inside. One look at the quality and anyone could tell it was not a common jewelry. With his meager pension after being discharged, he must have saved for years to afford something like that.“Yasmine, I broke your bracelet back then. Please, take this as a token of my apology.”He left out the fact that the broken bracelet had been her late mother’s keepsake. To the bystanders, it only made him look more sincere.“Take it, girl

Leo had no answer to Yasmine’s harsh words. No one knew better than he did how terribly wrong he had been.He had betrayed her and left the woman who had loved him broken and scarred. Even if Yara had conspired, it was still his own weakness that had let everything happen. But letting her go was something he could not do.Leo said stubbornly, “I know you’re still angry with me. Yasmine, let’s start over. Give me a chance to win you back!”He was too afraid to hear her refusal, so he left as soon as he said his piece.Yasmine watched his hurry out and disappear. She was speechless and frustrated. She had not told him that she was already married.‘Win me back?’ The thought itself was laughable. She did not give it another moment of thought. Anyway, in a few days, her husband would come to take her home. She had not expected that Leo would find out where she lived. Every day, he showed up outside with a bouquet of roses. When people asked what he was doing, he said he was

Emma heard his voice, and her face darkened.“What are you doing here? You’re not welcome here!”She moved to shut the door to try to stop Leo from coming in.Leo’s gaze was fixed on Yasmine, and his eyes were filled with desperate hope.He wanted her to come back to him. He wanted her to say that she had missed him too.But the woman he longed for did not spare him a single glance.“Ms. Larson, don’t waste your energy on someone who doesn’t matter.” Yasmine smiled softly. With Leo’s wounded eyes on her, she closed the door as if he had not been there at all.Emma’s face softened, and she looked at Yasmine in approval.“So, you truly don’t care about him anymore?”Yasmine nodded. Strong feelings like love or hate would only wear a person down. Leo was not worth her emotions.Emma looked pleased.
