Elias’s POV

The room wouldn’t stop spinning.

Security officers flooded every corner, voices overlapping, boots thudding across the floor, radios crackling with static. But all I could hear was the sound of my heartbeat slamming in my ears.

Too fast. Too loud. Too close to breaking.

Ronan pulled me closer with his uninjured arm, dragging me halfway onto his lap even while the rest of the room erupted into chaos.

He whispered, voice strained with pain, “Breathe. I’m right here.”

I clung to him, but my eyes stayed locked on the shattered window, on the path the masked figure had escaped through.

They had jumped. From the fourth floor.

And survived.

My stomach twisted. “They’re coming back,” I whispered.

Ronan nodded once. “I know.”

Vale shoved an officer off him and forced himself to stand, wobbling slightly. “Nobody touches them. Nobody separates them. Everyone step back unless you’re Director Hale.”

The officers hesitated, glancing at one another.

And that hesitation told me something

Elias's POVNobody moved. Two Director Hales stood in the tunnel. One behind us. One ahead. Both looked exactly the same. Same bruise. Same dusty clothes. Same exhausted expression."Don't listen to it," the Hale behind us said. "That's not me."The Hale ahead smiled. "That's exactly what I'd say if I were the fake one."Vale's weapon went up. But he didn't know where to point it. "How do we tell which is real?""Ask something only the real Director would know," Ronan said. His voice was steady but I could feel the tension in his body."Like what?" Vale asked."Something personal. Something a copy couldn't fake."Vale looked at the Hale behind us. "What's my sister's name?""You don't have a sister.""Wrong. I have two."The Hale ahead laughed. "No you don't. You have a younger brother. Marcus. He's sixteen and wants to be a pilot."Vale's face went pale."See?" The front Hale stepped closer. "I'm real. That thing behind you is the fake.""He's lying," the back Hale said. "It's pullin

Elias's POVThe emergency lights kicked on.Everything turned red. The vault looked different in the red glow. Wrong. Like we were trapped in a nightmare. The footsteps above us got louder."How many?" Vale whispered.Ronan tilted his head. Listening. "At least three. Maybe more.""Can they get in here?""The door is manual lock. No electronic override." Hale's voice was steady but I could hear the fear underneath. "They'd need the physical key or heavy equipment to breach it.""And if they have heavy equipment?"Hale didn't answer. The footsteps stopped. Directly above us.Nobody moved. Nobody breathed.Silence pressed down like a physical weight. Then something scraped against the floor above. Metal on stone. Slow. Deliberate."They're looking for the entrance," Hale whispered."Do they know we're here?" Vale had his weapon drawn. Pointed at the ceiling."I don't know."More scraping. Moving across the ceiling. Back and forth. Searching. My fever was getting worse. I could feel swea

  • Alpha Academy: The Omega in Disguise    Chapter 106: Close Call

Elias's POVHours passed in the vault.I lost track of time. There were no windows. No clocks. Just the dim green glow of Hale's computer screen and the steady hum of old machines.Vale had found a corner and was trying to clean the blood off his collar. Hale was still at the computer, typing occasionally, mostly just staring at the screen.Ronan stayed near me. Not obvious about it. But close enough that his scent kept mine mostly hidden.I was getting worse. The fever was climbing. I could feel it burning under my skin. Every breath felt too hot. My clothes were sticking to my back with sweat."You should lie down," Ronan said quietly."Can't. If I lie down it'll look suspicious.""You look suspicious now. You're shaking."He was right. My hands were trembling. I shoved them between my knees to hide it."How long do you think we'll be stuck here?" I whispered."I don't know. Hours maybe. Until they clear the building."Hours. I didn't have hours. The heat was building faster than it

Elias's POVThe shadow moved wrong.Everything about it was wrong. The way it bent around corners. The way it didn't make sound when it should have. The way my brain couldn't quite process what I was seeing."Move!" Hale's voice cracked through my frozen thoughts.Gunfire erupted. The muzzle flashes lit up the hallway in quick bursts. I saw fragments. Pieces. The shadow splitting apart like smoke, then reforming.Ronan's arm locked around my chest. He dragged me backward, half carrying me as we ran. My feet barely touched the ground.More shadows poured out of the darkness. Three. Four. Maybe more. They moved along the walls, the ceiling, places people shouldn't be able to move."East stairwell!" Vale was shouting. "Go go go!"We ran.Emergency lights kicked on. Everything turned red. The shadows looked worse in the red light. Like they were bleeding out of the walls themselves. My legs were shaking. Each breath felt too shallow. The fear was making everything worse. Making my body re

Elias’s POVThe masked figure came at me so fast the world blurred.I didn’t even have time to scream before Ronan slammed into me, shoving me sideways behind the desk just as the figure’s hand sliced through the air where my throat had been a heartbeat earlier.Metal met wood with a violent crack. Splinters exploded across my cheek.Vale fired again; close range. The bullet hit the figure’s shoulder, jerking them back a fraction, but not stopping them. Not even slowing.“What the hell…?” Vale gasped. The figure twisted unnaturally, like its bones were made of wire instead of real joints. With a single step it crossed half the room toward us.Ronan didn’t hesitate. He grabbed the fallen door and used it like a shield, ramming it forward with a raw, furious growl.“MOVE!” he shouted.I crawled backward, but the panic clawing my lungs was too thick, too sharp, like every breath was razor-dusted.The masked figure punched through the door as if it were paper. Ronan staggered, but didn’t
