ВойтиEmily's POV
“Leave us!” Luna commanded, as soon as I opened my eyes. “We'll be back in a minute.” A kind nurse said, as she touched my forehead. The white room, with white gleaming ceiling sharply contrasted Luna's black clothes. A sharp pain severed through my head, as I was greeted by the heavy lights. “How are you now?” Luna asked me. I wasn't used to such care. “Better.” I replied to her. “What day is it?” “You lie!” She said, putting a hand on my forehead. “Rest, you don't have to sit up.” She said, discouraging me from getting up like I'd started to do. I heard a sound, not from either of us, so I sat up curious to see where it was coming from. “The nurse says you shouldn't. You have wires connected in and out.” With her long nails, she made a display that showed how messy I looked. “What happened?” I asked her. “That's the same question I was about to ask you.” She said, looking straight into my eyes. “I can't remember much.” I croaked. “Well, that's bad.” She said, rubbing her temple with her freshly manicured fingers. Even through my haze, I could see the bright red colour “Where is Damon?” I asked her. “Where do you think?” She asked, turning to me and smiling sadly. “Where's Zathen?” I asked again, shooting up. “Dead.” She replied to me. “Bastard almost killed my son.” She whispered. “Poor boy.” I said in an undertone. “He messed with my boy. Do not further aggravate me by showing any pity!” Her voice boomed through the wide room. Since I was up already, I took the opportunity to look around me, at least I could see a generous part despite my restricted movement. “I'm so sorry.” I said, when I saw Damon spread out ingloriously on the bed right opposite me. “I do not deserve to be here. Thank you so much.” “You're damn right!” She replied. “Damon insisted you be brought here for treatment. The servants are usually visited by a nurse in their quarters.” “Thank you, Luna.” I said. Damon shifted again, and almost instantly, he started jerking violently. The alarm on his bedside went off, and the nurses and doctors came rushing in, against Luna’s instructions. “Get something made of silver!” The doctor screamed at a nurse, a young lady who looked scared out of her wits. “We can't afford a transformation right now.” He added. “What is going on?!” Luna demanded. “His wolf is forcing its way through. However, his body is too weak and cannot afford to undergo another transformation, he might not make it.” He broke the news. “And you're going to solve that by injuring his wolf?” Luna asked them. Silence erupted amidst the frenzy. “It's the only way to go.” The doctor said, “Don't!” I heard myself say, unsolicited. “Please don't. He could die.” I added. I witnessed how painful Damon's first transformation was, but that didn't mean that Damon would like his wolf injured and battered. Luna looked at me, this time, all the indifference and disgust were absent. Her look was a mixture of hope, fear and want. “What solution do you have?” She asked, looking at me intently. Every other person in the room turned to me, as my mouth instantly went dry. “I do not have a mark yet.” I started. “I also haven't seen my wolf.” I added. It wasn't rocket science, and therefore didn't take the Luna long to figure out what I was driving at. I only read of the Awakening Bond in old books, at the groomers library. “You'd die!” A nurse said, blatantly. “I know.” I replied to her. My life wasn't worth saving. An unfortunate orphan, with unpopular parents, and a maid in the palace. My life wasn't worth much. “I will do it.” I affirmed. I saw Luna’s eyes water, and the only thing that stopped her from rushing to my bedside was the numerous tubes that passed in and out of my body. “Let's get started.” The doctor said, In a room filled with people who were only after saving their Alpha, I was gonna be an unfortunate hero. The awakening bond involved two key steps. I had to be induced with a mixture of psychedelics. It would lead me through a dangerous one way journey in my mind. One where I'd be able to hear from the outside world, but not vice versa. I must confront my deepest struggles to summon my wolf, if I was gonna have one. Right after that, our souls merge, and the Power of my newfound wolf is transferred for Damon, well, most of it. If Moon Goddess deemed fit, I'd find a way out. “Are you sure you want to do this?” Luna asked me. “Yes.” I replied to her. I wasn't thinking, and I didn't want anyone to make me think. Damon saved my life after Zathen almost flung me to my death, I felt like I owed that to him. “It has to be done in the sacred pool.” Luna said, facing the team of medics instead of me. “We'll have them both wheeled there.” The head doctor replied to her. “Damon first.” With utmost speed, Damon was wheeled out of the room we'd shared for two days, two days since he killed Zathen in cold blood, “Close your eyes.” The doctor said, as he held my hand in his. “You're about to feel intense pain. You can still back out.” He said. I saw the Luna shift, I never even realised that she didn't go out with the team that wheeled Damon. “I'm sure.” I said, without thinking twice. Immediately, I felt the needle pierce the side of my head, and like a light switch, the world in my head came on. “I do not think she is strong enough.” I heard the doctor say. “We'll watch her for ten minutes. If we do not lose her before then, we can rejoin Damon downstairs.” He added, I heard Luna sniff, followed by perfect silence.Adrian's POV “It's a new day indeed.” I said to myself, pulling up to the house. Maybe it was a dumb decision, seeing as many people had the right to be on my neck, literally. “Your mother is up.” One of my attendants spoke in my ear. “All the better, then.” That was meant to be sarcastic, but he didn't seem at ease. “What's up?” j looked at him, forcing him to look down at Damon's car keys which he'd taken from me. “She has a visitor.” He added. “I don't think Ma would mind my intrusion. Besides, I've got to shower me’self.” I patted his back. He was quiet, once again the young innocent boy I employed a couple of months ago. “On second thought, I shall love to see her before going up.” I watched as his face crumpled and relaxed He was hiding something, and it better be for my sake. “Wait here.” I said to him two doors away from Mama. I knocked once and let myself in. “What the fuck?!” I yelled. The sight wasn't unusual, the time of day was. Ever since
Emily's POV “If you guys can keep it low, I promise I won't interfere.” I said upon barging into Damon's office.. Luacas and Damon had each other headlocked, spinning like little kids. “Get out of here.” Lucas yelled, trying to protect me. “I'm bothered by the noise.” I stood at the door, arms akimbo, watching how blood spotted tiny dots on Damon’s cloth. “Leave!” He yelled again. Damon took advantage of the split second Lucas looked up at me to strike him on the head. I was incensed, but not mad enough to want to fight. One minute I was kissing my teeth at how stupid they both looked, fighting in an office on Damon's first day back after an unannounced leave, and the next I was knocked to a corner by a blow to my head. “See what you've done!” Lucas angrily pushed Damon to the window, and was about to throw him down the entire thirteen stories of Nevada when I rushed to him. “Lucas please go to the hospital.” I begged him as he let himself be torn off Damon by me
Damon's POV “Just go on with what you have to say.” Lucas snapped. “You don't tell me what to do!” I yelled at the top of my voice. All three of them didn't even break a sweat “Your most diligent employees are on their way to work. I'm sure you must have something planned for them.” Adrian spoke. “First on my list,” I started finally, still recovering from my outburst, “How has security been? Any threats from the borders?” I asked Lucas. “None. My guys have been less busy for a while now. I was almost thinking of downsizing capacity. It seems we do not have as much threat to require such a large army.” Lucas replied. “That sounds good. I hope you are still engaging with all your intel's though. Remember these bastards live to strike when we're the most vulnerable. It's a pleasant surprise that nothing happened when I was gone.” I tapped my fingers on the table, thinking. “Maybe that's because you had the good sense not to make my absence public.” I said, thanking him
Damon's POV “I never saw that coming.” I held my head as my nerves shot up. Adrian's problem had never been my problem, not since when we were kids. But I can't deny feeling an extreme sense of duty to him, especially as he saved me from death's lair. “I'm gonna need details.” I said. “If you're asking for a reason. I don't have any. I just did it. That bitch has had too much control over my life for a very long time. I got tired of it. I badly wanted a test, but the idea of having my first heir mothered by her didn't sit well with me.” I confessed. “When she needed you the most.” I soliloquised. “Come on. If you heard both sides, you'd feel for me too. She's the reason I lost Emily.” He said. “That's just foolish talk right now.” I brushed it off. “If she wanted to be kept, she would've. I was married to the woman.” “Back to the case at hand…” Adrian drew me out. “What exactly are you scared of about Lilian? From where I stand, she's a bastard.” I flipped.
Adrian's POV “I'm not gonna be at ease till you tell me what you're up to, you know?” Damon said. I'd driven in silence for the last twenty minutes, and I was loving it. “Where do we go?” I asked him instead. “You don't need me captive?” He asked. “Whatever would I be doing with a grown ass man like you?” I asked, disgusted. “Did anyone never keep you in suspense?” I asked surprised. “Suspense is never cool with you. What's up?” He pressed further. “Man, I can't run this shit alone. Emily and Lucas have their own shit going on, and I'm all alone out there.” I said “Isn't that what you've always wanted?” Damon chuckled. “Not like this man. I have a rogue brother.” I burst out. “You've gotta be joking.” Damon said wide eyed. “I wish I was. I got informed of him a couple of days ago. The family lawyer. Apparently, he was supposed to stay hidden for a couple of years after my father passed, that was to ensure my mother didn't send the miserable young thing
Damon’s POV “When does this end?” I asked the bastard who's just passed all manners of hard drugs through my veins only hours ago. “How are you still able to talk?” White Wolf groaned in his seat. The ropes had already begun scalding my hand, and I'd grown tired of thugging it out. I had fresh injuries that needed attention. “You're going to have to find something stronger than that. I did all those as a boy.” I huffed. “My goal is not to knock you out, trust me. I'd have killed you if I wanted to do that. I need you to be conscious enough while you make my daughter a mother.” He bragged. It's the third time in the past two days that he's used those same exact string of worlds. I remember the first time Vera, the bastard I'd employed and used to make Emily jealous, walked in with only a fishnet covering. Even with my limited movement, I fought her off. The next day, it earned me a silver chain on my wrist. My wolf who was already extremely mad at me was put to dormancy
Emily's POV “Didn't think I'd see you today again.” I commented on Adrian's obvious presence which was supposed to be a surprise. I couldn't help feeling like I betrayed Damon, especially not after turning down his invitation to drive me home, again. If he walked in on us, there's gonna be no
Damon's POV The pump in Emily's walk got to me. Why was she so happy? I mean, I wanted her to be, but I wanted to be the reason too. “It's a good morning, I see.” I said. “Well, I'm trying to act like it.” She replied. “How was your night?” I asked, drawing her windows. “It was alrigh
Adrian's POV “Did I say how much I missed sleeping next to you?” I asked, snapping out of the sleep and wake cycle I'd been in since last night. “This has to be the millionth time. I'm beginning to doubt you.” Emily snuggled. “I still don't feel like I've said only enough though.” I sat up
Lucas POV “And to what do I owe this call, sergeant?” I grunted as I picked up the phone. “The locals at the edge of town say they’ve heard the same kind of noises, for the third night in a row.” He reported. “What?” I asked, half awake. “I got here as soon as I could , sir, everywhere lo
