Chapter 90

Ezra:

I walked inside the cells where Madeline was staying, my heart aching as I looked at her being in the state that she was in.

The last thing that I ever expected was to be put in a situation where I would be treating a family member, Madeline especially, in such a way. The woman and I grew up together, being both friends and family; therefore, this came as very hard for me.

“Why?” I asked, not bothering to sugarcoat or dwell on the topic, there was no use in doing so. I knew that Maddie understood what I was referring to, and the last thing I needed to do with her was try to explain what I had to say. She would often understand me long before I said anything.

“I don’t think that you should be asking me why, Ezra.” She said, making me frown in confusion. The woman was my best friend for longer than I could remember.
