9- Her Second Chance Mate

Jacob's POV

"What?!?" I exclaimed when I heard her say that. At least for me, knowing that I was her second chance mate was impossible. I never heard someone find a second chance mate for someone who never had one before, and I have never had one ever since. She was my first mate.

Maya was looking at me, wondering maybe why I was in shock. She didn't know I had never had a mate before. Even in humor, mate was never included.

One more thing was, she said her mother was a witch and her father was human. How could she have a wolf when none of her parents were one?

I was still thinking whether she was telling the truth or not when she said, "You don't believe me, don't you?"

I was eyeing her intently. In the short amount of time between meeting her and staying here, she had gradually answered, if not, knew exactly what was on my mind. I don't know about Ken, when they were together, but with me, it was hard to believe that she was just saying things with my facial expressions as her basis.

"Let's say I don't believe you. What will you do?" I asked her.

"Well, I will ask you to reject me. "Because I am not going to stay here anymore," she said nonchalantly.

"Is that easy for you? The rejection? " I accused her.

"I already told you, I have been rejected once and a future alpha at that." It was painful, but I endured it. Well, I can't say the same for him. "

"What do you mean?" Ken asked.

"The gamma there told me that his father, the current alpha, was looking among his pack members to replace him." He had been giving some alpha challenges, or tasks, to those who wanted to try them. I don't know if there was even one who was qualified to be one, though. Well, that's beside the gamma, and that is if he was not old yet. "

"What did that incident have to do with your mate?" I asked irritably.

She smiled and said, "Oh, yeah, after I accepted his rejection, he writhed in pain and his wolf never emerged anymore." He was still alive though, but as good as a human. "

"And you wanted Alpha Jacob to reject you?" I accused Ken with a concerned look that was, I'm sure, intended for me.

"I never wanted it." Who would want to reject his or her mate? Well, beside my first mate and the one we know, who doesn't want one? " Maya then glanced at me. "So you see, it wasn't me. It was the other way around, "she added.

"Alpha, what do you think?" Ken shifted his gaze to me.

"Aren't you just telling us that so I won't reject you?" I angrily asked her.

"As I recalled, we agreed that we would give this mate thing a shot. But before that, I told you that you were free to reject me. So tell me, why would I need to make up stories so you wouldn't reject me? Aren't you too full of yourself? " My face darkened when she finished talking.

"Don't get too hyped, Alpha. I was just explaining to you that I had no reason to do that. One more thing, I was just telling you what had happened to my first mate. "

I was still looking at her when someone knocked on the door and got in.

"Alpha, everything is OK now. To make sure it won't happen again, I added a few warriors to guard there. " My grandma Dom told me as soon as he entered.

"Have a seat." I told him, and glancing at Maya, we would talk later. She nodded at me and we discussed our next move as per Maya's information.

shock was all over Dom's face, but I decided to ignore it. Ken and I were already in that state, so I told Dom to get over it as soon as possible.

Because Maya said she had already put on a shield of some sort in that particular part of the territory, the warriors that were assigned there plus those that Dom decided to add to guard was enough. We continued our meeting and were stopped again by Maya.

"I am hungry. Can't we take a break and eat first?"

"Why are you always hungry?" I complained...

"It was lunch time already. Aren't you hungry? Ken, Dom, are you not hungry yet? " She asked for both my beta and gamma's sympathy.

"Yeah, we eat first." Dom, who was angry at Maya at first, agreed without hesitation.

I couldn't do anything but agree, as I noticed Ken was eyeing me too. I rolled my eyes at both of them and stood up.

We all went to the dining hall, and there we found other pack members who were having lunch as well. Everyone was looking at her, wondering who she was. She doesn't mind the stares she gets from everyone.

"It's rude to stare, you know?" she said, looking at everyone in the table who was confuse as to why she was with us. She smell like a rogue and I know that everyone doesn't like her.

"Is it I smelled rogue?" she asked. No one answered and couldn't look at her anymore.

"I'll take it as a yes then. OK, I'll do this." she told them and said something unclear. All of us hears it bit none of us understand it.

"How about now? Do I still smell rogue?" she asked again and everyone sniff. We were all shocked that we cannot smell her at all.

"How did you do that?" I asked her.

"It wont take long, probably 30 minutes the most. It's just a little spell that could masked my scent. This was something I invented for myself. I cannot prolong the effect though." she informed me.

Although I was still hesitant to her with the thought of being her second chance mate, I was still glad that she explained it to me.

We were starting to eat and was giving her a look from time to time when I heard a familiar voice...
