Noel.

I can't find him. He's late, and he has never been late before. Not even on the day of his worst beatings, he'd still be there in his spot, going through his form with a trembling figure.

But he is not here.

And when I look to Jaki and his Shield, both of them are searching for the same person I am, eyes wandering while training.

Ten minutes in.

The pain in the back of my head grows worse as I wait, hands folded over my knives and eyes fixed at the entrance. Had the Councilor taken out all his anger on Noel last night? For the things I'd said out of my own fury?

It's twenty minutes in when I see a faint shadow flicker by the doorway.

Noel.

And my blood runs cold as I watch him drag his body over to his assigned place, try to slip his knives out of the straps on his legs.

I cannot help him.

But Jaki does, eyes forced wide as he rushes towards the broken boy. I see Noel sway on his feet before collapsing into Jaki, sweat dripping down his deathly pale face.
