Chapter Five: Have Lunch.

Chapter Five: Have Lunch.

Kayla’s POV:

I CLENCHED MY chest as it beats faster than normal while remembering what happened earlier. I can still feel the intensity of the way he looks at me. His eyes that flicker from gray to yellow, then back to gray is noticeable. I really saw it, I just don’t know if it was true 'cause if it was, is there a scientific explanation to it? Moreover, the intense feeling I felt earlier, the way my heart beats faster as his skin touches mine, it was the same as how I felt the night we had sex. The spark between us the moment he touches my skin still lingers on me. There is something that urges me to keep on staring at his gray eyes. Now that I am sober, it feels surreal. I have fallen in love with someone before but this is way different.

“Mom, are you okay?”

I turned my head to Brent that stopped drawing shapes on his sketch pad when he noticed me. I smiled at him then straightened my back to sit properly on the couch. He didn’t smile back, waiting for my response.

“I’m okay, do I look ill?” I asked.

He shook his head. “No, but you look bothered.”

“No, I’m just tired,” I assured him.

Pouting his lips, he carefully put down the crayons he was holding on top of the table.

“If only I had a father, maybe you wouldn’t have to work. You just have to take care of me and then give me a baby sister,” he said.

I chuckled after hearing him say that. “You want a baby sister?”

He nodded. “It’s boring that I am the only kid inside our house whenever I go home. I would love to have siblings.”

I didn’t reply to what he said. Thinking of having another child with Brandon made me think of the other thing—I mean the part that we have to make a baby. I am not a pervert to think of how and what we’re going to do but that was really how babies were made! I shook my head at the thought. Brandon just told me earlier that he won't be stubborn with me again, I shouldn’t think of that. Two weeks and Brandon was so stubborn when it comes to me. He gets mad a lot even in the smallest mistake I make. And whenever he’s mad, I got scared. Who wouldn't when he looks like a mad beast ready to feast on me?

“How long should I wait before I meet my Dad?”

That question hangs in the air when my Mom gets out of her room and catches us talking about Brent’s father. I looked up at her and saw that she’s confused.

“Your Dad’s coming?” Mom asked, eyeing Brent.

I widened my eyes to Mom, telling her to just go with it but I guess she didn't like where it’s going.

“Yes! Mom told me that she’s looking for my Dad and I’m going to meet him soon! Have you ever met my Dad, Grandma?” Brent asked.

Mom looked unconvinced but instead, she shook her head. “No, and meeting him is a great idea. Isn’t it, Kayla?” She looked at me and then raised her brow. That brow made me nervous!

I strongly bite my lower lip. Now I have to explain myself to her, I don't have a choice since she already caught me. After I put Brent to bed, just like what I expected, Mom asked me to talk about Brent’s father. For the past five years, I never once talked about it with Mom. I know that she’s curious too but kept silent because she respected me as her daughter. I love how Mom was always cool every time, she wasn't the type of Mom who nags a lot.

“Why did you lie to your son?” Mom asked right after I sat down on the chair that I pulled off under the table.

She put down the cup of coffee on top of the table and then pulled a chair for her. She didn’t take her eyes off me while waiting for my answer.

“I didn’t lie to him. Actually, I don’t really have plans on telling him his real father because for the past five years I raised Brent without him. But now that he’s not getting younger and he’s starting to get curious, wanting to know about his father, I don’t have a choice but to give it to him…”

Mom sighed then took the cup of coffee to sip. “You didn’t ask for your Dad…”

“I didn’t because I am not Brent. I don’t need a father because I’m content with you. I know that I am not a great mother, I am not perfect and I couldn’t make him experience things that boys his age do with their fathers. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why he’s asking… aside from he’s bullied.”

“He was bullied?” Mom asked, surprised.

I nodded. “He said his playmates made fun of him.”

“Those little rats deserve a scolding! Having no father doesn’t mean you are less of a person, tell that to Brent.”

“I’m in touch with Brent’s father…”

Mom’s eyes widened. “What? So will they meet sooner?”

I shook my head. “No.”

“What?”

Now she's confused. I know it’s confusing but she has to understand since we started talking about it now.

“He didn’t know that his son existed.”

Mom touched his mouth after what I revealed to her. She couldn’t say a word, while I am still thinking of how I would explain to her what really happened.

“Mom, it’s a one-night stand…”

“I knew it,” she replied. “I know that you don’t have a boyfriend and then you suddenly got pregnant. So, who is this?”

“Brandon Moore.”

“Brandon Moore?” she asked and then chuckled, “Brandon Moore likes Moore Food Corporation?” That question made me bite my lower lip. Mom waited for my response while her laugh started to fade. “Is it Brandon Moore? Really?”

I slowly nodded, then Mom cussed for the first time.

“How did that happen?” she asked.

I shrugged. “It just…”

“Now it has become more complicated. I think you're one of his flings or one-night stands, do you think he still remembers you?”

“He didn't remember me…” I replied.

“Oh God! Now it’s impossible. Don't tell me you’re still up to it, your son would be disappointed at you once you didn't fulfill his wish.”

“I know Mom, but at least I should try?”

She stared at me for a moment, like she was looking at the most silliest person in the world.

“What do you plan to do?”

“I got hired as his secretary,” I replied.

“You applied?” she asked.

“Yeah…”

“And then?”

“I need to buy time to get closer to him and then slowly tell him that we have a son.”

She didn't reply to what I said. I didn't mention that I am planning to seduce Brandon. My Mom would surely disagree with it if ever. I just smiled at her, assuring that all is fine.

BRANDON IS NOT talking to me. Just like what he promised, he stopped being stubborn. He stopped yelling, swearing and scaring me whenever I do something that makes him mad. I'm not used to it. Now, I’m missing his annoyed face and the way he yelled at me.

“What a peaceful day! I guess Sir Brandon has already moved on from his ex-girlfriend!” Ales exclaimed and then sat down on his swivel chair with a cup of coffee in his right hand.

“Weird,” I murmured.

“What’s weird?” he asked.

“Sir Brandon is weird for being silent the whole day,” I replied. “I’m not used to it.”

“Well, start to get used to it because Sir Brandon is always that cold. He wasn't himself last week because he hasn't moved on from his ex-girlfriend.”

I nodded hesitantly and continued to do what I was doing, not taking my eyes off of Brandon’s office. The whole day I was just staring at the phone beside my keyboard, waiting for him to call but then night came he really didn't.

The next day he was like that again, I couldn't understand what’s up but my officemates told me that the cold-boss Brandon is back, and I don't have to worry. I shouldn't worry because it is better for me to not hear his annoyed voice, and get scared with his pissed look, and hurt from his humiliating words.

“Hey, what would you like for lunch?” I snapped when Ales asked me.

I was staring blankly, thanks to him I get myself together.

“Anything,” I shrugged. “Why? Your treat?”

It was just a joke but he seriously smiled at me. “Yeah, my treat.”

“Just kidding! I don't want you to treat me, were not that close.”

His brow arched. “What? You didn't want to get close to me?”

“Of course, I wanted to—”

“Ms. Scott!”

I almost jumped out of where I was standing when Brandon called me. Still nervous, I turned my head to him and then smiled calmly. Trying not to look nervous just like what I am feeling right now.

“Yes, Sir?”

He was frowning at me. It seems like he wasn't in the right mood today. Really? So his anti-stubborn promise last day, lasted for only a day? But then, at the back of my mind I got excited thinking that I will get inside his office with him alone. It feels like forever waiting for him to call me when it was just yesterday.

When I got inside his office he quickly walked towards his table and I followed him. I thought he was going to sit down on the swivel chair but then he stopped then faced me, making me bump my face to his tough chest.

“Sorry, Sir!” I quickly stepped back to avoid him. “I didn't mean to bump into you!”

I looked up at him and met his gray eyes, still frowning.

“Anyway, what is it, Sir?”

His brows almost stuck in between his forehead. “You’re having lunch with Ales?”

Surprised, my mouth opened and then I closed it again. “Well, yes… today?” I replied.

“Don’t come to him for lunch, we have something more important to do,” he said.

“A lunch meeting, Sir?” I arched my brow.

His eyes darted on my lips, then to my eyes slowly drifted again to my half-opened lips. My chest heaved as I started to feel the spark that I was feeling whenever I’m with him. The way his eyes lingered on me, it tingles through my whole body. I was just about to ask him again when he pressed a kiss on my lips. His soft lips that were pressed against mine made my heart beat faster. I’m going to deaf because of this loud heartbeat that’s echoing through my ears. I couldn't move, even pushing him to stop, I couldn't have the courage. How could I push him when I like it?

I started to feel drowsy after his lips started to move. The way it slowly brushed against mine made my eyes closed as his wide palm rested on my lower back. Right then when I was about to kiss him back, he bit my lower lip and I groaned in pain.

I opened my eyes and looked up at him. When he looked down on me, lust was evident from his seductive hooded gray eyes. I slicked my tongue in between my teeth and tasted the metallic taste of blood.

I was about to wipe it off but he kissed me again and whispered. “Have lunch with me, Kayla Scott.”
