The ride was spent in an almost suffocating silence. The only sounds breaking through the quiet were the steady hum of the engine and the soft rustle of leaves outside as we made our way home.

As soon as we pulled through my gate, I cut the engine. Summer didn’t waste a moment; she flung the door open, slamming it as she stormed away.

“Damnit,” I muttered under my breath.

I strode after her. “Summer, where the hell do you think you’re going?”

“Getting an Uber home!” she shouted back.

Did she really think she could just escape me?

I quickened my pace. Once I reached her, I had her by the wrist, tugging her through the lawn to the front door. I pulled her toward my bedroom room. She stumbled, her protests falling on deaf ears.

“Nicholas, stop it!” When we reached the door, I kicked it open with a pissed off Summer in my arms. I pushed her onto the bed, my hands tightening around her arms. My anger and jealousy spilled over like the whiskey I abandoned during the meeting.

I’m confused. The last chapter ended either her in bed with Nicholas and now she is in her apartment. I’ve noticed several chapters jumping all over the place. Please read your chapters before posting them. I love the story but it’s not making any sense with all the jumping

With our guns raised, we cautiously approached the front door, then shifted our focus to the windows, peering through the cracks. My heart raced as I spotted a group of armed men in black, their masks obscuring their faces, prowling toward the entrance.“Nicholas, I can activate the charges in the ground,” Luca said, his eyes glued to the surveillance monitors, the glow illuminating his tense expression.“No, not yet. We can't risk any more of our men.” I turned sharply to Miguel. “How many are you in contact with?”“So far, seven,” he replied. “But I haven’t heard from at least four of them.”“Are any of them the snipers?”“Yes, boss,” he confirmed, and I nodded, a surge of relief washing over me. At least we had two of them positioned on the roof, but with the way those men were approaching, they wouldn’t have a clear shot.“Luca, tell them to take the shots when they can,” I ordered.“Got it,” he responded, fingers flying over the keyboard as he communicated with the snipers.I hel

As soon as I opened the basement door, her sweet voice pierced the heavy air like an arrow aimed straight at my heart. “Can I please use the bathroom?” she asked, her tone edged with a hint of desperation that made my stomach twist.I took slow, deliberate steps down the stairs. The dim light revealed her figure, hunched slightly in her chair. The sight made my chest tighten.Summer raised her head, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears, a pleading smile ghosting across her beautiful face. "Nicholas, please," she begged.Lips I kissed many times.Lips that breathed life into my dark soul. She gave me the kiss of life. The first woman who revived my cold and lifeless heart, only to rip it out of my chest and leave it for the hell hounds to feast on.She played me well. And I fell for her bullshit. Her eyes were bloodshot from the crying she’d been doing since she left my office.I pulled the knife from my pocket and knelt before her. Her golden-brown eyes that were once bright like hon

He stepped away, placing a gentle kiss on my head. "Stay safe and keep a low profile. I’ll stay in touch."And with that, he left, the door clicking shut behind him.But then realization hit me.That meant I’d been found, and someone knew about me.And I was a freaking mafia princess. What the ever loving hell was I supposed to do now?“Summer, I need you to follow me. Nicholas is requesting your presence in his office.”I was in the music room of Nicholas’s house playing the violin when the door swung open. Miguel slipped inside and leaned in to speak with Lorenzo. A few minutes later, Miguel left the room, and Lorenzo turned to face me, his expression serious.A spark of hope flickered within me.This was the first time Nicholas had asked to see me directly since the shootout. Since my conversation with Damian, I'd been eager to share the news with Nicholas, but he hadn’t replied to my messages.I nodded, setting my instrument down and rising to follow Lorenzo down the hall. Once we

After releasing a breath, I hesitantly opened the box. Tears sprang to my eyes when I saw what was inside. The box was filled with pastel envelopes, numbers written on them in numerical order, all wrapped in burlap string. There was one for each year since I was born. Underneath the letters were pictures of just me, Mom while she was pregnant with me, and Dad. I unwrapped the string and sucked in a breath while looking over my mother’s signature. The delicate strokes moved straight up and down with a slant, like a teacher’s handwriting. I wished Mom was still alive to give me pointers on how to deal with Nicholas and everything else. Pushing those thoughts aside, I began to read my mother’s words. When I reached letter eighteen, my heart sank to my stomach. My dear loving daughter,From the moment you entered my life, you became my reason to fight until the very end of my days. But it's time to tell you the truth about me, your father, and where you come from. Please find it in your h

The room felt suffocating as my anger reached its peak. I could almost taste the bitterness on my tongue. I looked up to see Luca still trying to track the call, but the frustration on his face told me he hadn’t succeeded. He chuckled, the sound cold and devoid of any humanity. “Because I’m the one who sent her.”I paced around the room like a trapped animal. I turned back to the window and stared into the darkness. I clutched the phone tightly against my ear.A chill ran down my spine. I struggled to breathe as anxiety coiled tightly around my chest. The thought of Summer betraying me clawed at my insides. “If you’re lying?—”“Confront her, and you’ll see the truth for yourself.”“What makes you think I won’t kill her myself if what you’re saying was true?”My men's eyes narrowed into slits, and they exchanged anxious glances at my words.“You won’t have the balls to kill the woman you love.”“It wouldn’t be the first time,” I snarled, every muscle in my body rigid.“But this one's d

A glint on the right caught my eye, and I looked down and noticed a woman’s lifeless eyes staring at me. She was lying motion-still, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling, a pool of blood slowly spreading around her. My gaze shifted to the man, his body slumped over hers, a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his skull. They both looked to be in their twenties, and that’s when I saw her engagement ring in a box beside her head. He must’ve been here to propose; now in one moment, their happily ever after had been taken away.Suddenly, a little girl’s voice rang out, and a mother sobbed, asking someone to let her baby go. I grabbed the mirror Lorenzo was using and stuck it out far enough around the wall to get a view of one of the assholes holding a little girl’s hair with his fist and a shiny metal gun to her temple. The girl’s chubby cheeks were drenched with tears that cascaded down her face like a fierce, unstoppable storm. Two other gunmen stood nearby with their machine guns poin
