Chapter 9

Felix eyed the container before he gave me an exasperated look. And he turned his head back towards his work. I stood there silently for what felt like an eternity, until he sighed and finally spoke.

“Listen Leigh”, Felix said and l already knew what he was going to say.

“I appreciate the thought, but l should have you know that l already have people who make me lunch. You didn’t have to go out of your way to do so”, he said in a disheartening tone.

Immediately l felt defeated. And l retracted my hands back with the container of food I had labored for hours, preparing for my fiancé.

“Now if you don’t mind, can you please wait outside and l will call one of my drivers to escort you back home”, Felix deadpanned. Focusing his attention back to his work.

I could feel my heart sink into the pit of my stomach acid as Felix spoke. Why had l even thought this would be a good idea? It was clear this man wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.
