Chapter 2 Nothing Left to Lose

Author: The Evil Villain
The next morning, I went straight to Dakota's company.

I wasn't there to beg for mercy. I wanted to see for myself whether they'd still be so shameless when the Department of Revenue came knocking.

I barged into the CEO's office. Dakota's gaze flickered when she saw me, open disgust and arrogance in her eyes.

"Have you changed your mind? Here to sign the property transfer agreement for the family estate, aren't you?"

She pulled out a document and flung it at my feet. "Sign it already. Maybe then you'll get your mother's ashes back."

I glanced down at the agreement, a faint sneer tugging at my lips, then planted my foot on it.

"Asher! Don't be so ungrateful!" Dakota shot to her feet, the veins in her forehead bulging. "Do you still think you're the Blake family's precious heir? Let me tell you something. Your mother's dead! There's no one left to stand up for you!"

"That's right. My mother's dead." I walked toward her, my gaze cold and venomous. "I have nothing left now, so there's nothing to fear."

I stopped at her desk, a sinister smile crossing my face. "Tell me, what do you think someone with nothing left to lose is capable of?"

The next second, I snatched up the fountain pen on her desk and drove it down hard as her eyes widened.

"Asher Blake!"

The pen's tip pierced her knuckles, and blood gushed from the wound. Dakota's furious scream seemed to drown out everything around me.

My ears were ringing when, in the next instant, her hand clamped around my throat.

Agonizing pain shot through my neck. I was choking so badly that my vision went black, and my face swelled and turned purple.

The commotion drew a crowd of employees to the office.

Just then, Walter walked in with a cup of coffee, feigning surprise. "Dakota, Asher, what's going on? Don't fight!"

He hurried to Dakota's side and clung to her arm, pretending to calm her down.

"Asher, your mother just passed away. We understand you're not thinking clearly right now. But that doesn't mean you can come to Dakota's company and act like this. Imagine how bad it would look if word got out."

He then turned to the watching employees, his eyes reddening as he put on a wounded expression.

"Please don't blame Asher. He probably just can't accept what happened. I thought I heard him say he was going to kill Dakota."

He sounded concerned, but his words only added fuel to the fire.

The employees began pointing at me, their faces full of contempt and disapproval.

"So he's got mental problems. That's scary."

"He hurt Ms. Lennox like that, and he still has the nerve to make a scene!"

"Mr. Kingsleigh is such a good person. He's even sticking up for this lunatic."

With Walter calming her and the employees backing her up, Dakota snapped out of it and threw me to the floor.

Her vanity and need for control seemed fully satisfied, and her voice rose sharply. "Asher! Look at yourself! Apologize to Walter right now!"

I staggered to my feet and couldn't help scoffing. "Apologize? As if he deserves one."

Dakota lost her temper completely. She stormed toward me and seized my wrist. I heard a sharp crack as she broke my hand.

Her eyes were red with fury, and her voice turned vicious. "I said apologize! Do you hear me?"

My face went pale with pain, but I refused to make a sound.

My hatred surged to its peak. I grabbed her by the collar and slammed her toward the window.

With a crash, the glass shattered, revealing the street far below.

Dakota's eyes widened as she grabbed me by the throat and forced me out through the broken window.

"Asher! Are you trying to get us both killed?"

Half my body was hanging out the window. The cold wind cut across my face, but I wasn't afraid.

I stared straight at her, my eyes burning with hatred.

"You want my family's estate? Kill me, then. I'll make sure Walter pays for it, even if I have to come back from the dead."

The hatred in my eyes caught Dakota off guard, and for a moment, she seemed visibly panicked.

Walter immediately stepped forward, pretending to play peacemaker. "Dakota, calm down. Asher didn't mean to…"

The people I'd been waiting for still hadn't shown up. I was sick of waiting.

I slammed Dakota against the wall.

As everyone watched in horror, I turned to leave.

But Walter suddenly rushed forward and dumped his scalding coffee over my arm.

The coffee felt as if it were cooking my skin, and I convulsed in pain.

Dakota glanced at my arm, already red and swollen, then looked at Walter, who was putting on a show of panic.

In the end, she ignored my pain, wrapped her arms around Walter, and snapped at me.

"Get out! Bring me the property transfer agreement tomorrow morning! Otherwise, I'll make sure your mother doesn't even get to rest in peace."

Security guards shoved me toward the exit with a metal pole.

Downstairs, I crossed paths with a team of Department of Revenue inspectors.

I watched them head straight for the top floor of Lennox Group and smiled. With that, I wrenched myself free of the guards.

I whistled and called Grayson. My voice was frighteningly calm. "The delay worked. Get ready to start tonight, just after midnight. Also, don't forget to save the nastiest spot for her grandfather."

Dakota kept hounding me, her voice ringing in my ears. My nerves were so taut they began to twitch."Dakota, you've got some nerve. Bring Walter out here!"The door of the black SUV behind me opened, and a man with his hands and feet bound was thrown out.Walter's mouth was taped shut. The moment he saw Dakota, he let out a shrill, muffled wail. "Help… Mmph! Help me!"Dakota's fingers twitched, and she instinctively took a step forward. "Walter!"She turned on me, barely suppressing her anger. "Let Walter go! Don't forget, I still have your mother's ashes!"She raised the urn again to threaten me, but she'd forgotten that we both had leverage over each other now.I walked over, grabbed Walter by the hair, and pulled his face into view. The sound of a slap rang out. Walter glared at me with bitter hatred as I turned to Dakota. "Give me back the ashes, or I'll have him raped in front of everyone here!"Walter's voice grew frantic. Overcome with panic, he broke down crying. "No…

I was young back then. Holding my mother's trembling hand, I didn't understand what she was trying to tell me.I'd never met Dakota, but I didn't want my mother to take risks for my sake. She was already looked down on by the family. If my situation made things even harder for her, wouldn't that make me a terrible son?So I agreed to the arranged marriage. My mother's eyes were red-rimmed, but all she could do was remind me again and again, "If things don't work out, you have to come back and tell me."I never imagined that my marriage to Dakota would sour in just three years. As my mother lay dying in her hospital bed, she wept, her voice trembling."Asher, it's all my fault. I was too weak. If only I'd fought harder to stop you from marrying the Lennox family's daughter, maybe you wouldn't be in this situation now. I've failed you."At the time, my body was covered in needle marks from all the blood they'd taken from me.Until the very moment she closed her eyes, my mother was

Walter was huddled in a corner in his thin pajamas, clutching the bag frantically."Asher! How dare you? If Dakota finds out, she'll never let you get away with this!"I stiffened, blood rushing to my head. When I spoke, my voice was utterly cold."Is that so? She can barely protect herself right now. You don't even know her company has been shut down by the authorities, do you? She might not even escape prison time as its legal representative! Walter, hand it over. Don't make me take it from you."Walter's eyes widened in disbelief. He shook his head. "How is that possible? You're lying! How could anything happen to Dakota?"His fingertips dug into his flesh, and his lips quivered as he struggled to form the words.Suddenly, he raised the bag high outside the window and threatened me with it, as if nothing could stop him."Asher! Lennox Group is a huge corporation. You think reporting it is enough to make it go bankrupt? You're not fooling me! Just wait until Dakota gets here.

I curled my lip and spread my hands. "I'm not. I reserved that spot for your great-uncle. Shame he isn't dead yet."Dakota's expression darkened with the ominous stillness before a storm. She gritted her teeth and spoke one word at a time."Asher, don't forget that I still have your mother's ashes! Do you think you can get away with this? I'll dump every last bit of your mother's ashes into a dog bowl and feed them to the dogs!"My breath caught, and my heart seemed to stop.I stared at the woman I knew so well, yet in that moment, she felt like a complete stranger.Over the past three years, we might not have been madly in love, but we'd always treated each other with respect. The Blake family was on the decline, and I'd become the Lennox family's live-in son-in-law.I took care of her entire family and handled all the day-to-day affairs of the sprawling Lennox Estate. Dakota, meanwhile, was gentle and considerate toward me, the very picture of a good wife.We didn't have chil

I spoke slowly and clearly into the microphone. "You unworthy descendant, come to pay your respects to the Lennox ancestors!"Hundreds of thousands of viewers flooded into the livestream, sending it straight to the top of the hourly trending list. The comments flooded the screen."Damn, that's savage. If someone takes a dump here, does that make it a golden turd?""Save me one! I've never taken a dump on the heads of the big shots before!""This is too good to miss. I'm heading over to see it for myself!"I aimed my camera at the stinking restroom and started announcing my prices."Folks from near and far, don't miss out! Get your limited-time coupon to use the Lennox family graves as a toilet. Just five bucks. You won't regret it!""Get the chance to take a dump right on the Lennox ancestors' heads. A deal like this won't last, so it's first come, first served!""Prices vary by stall. Old Mr. Lennox was a big name in Kingswell back in his day! He's not one of the cheap ones.

The machinery roared, and within seconds, a huge hole had been carved into the grave.Half an hour later, I held Dakota's grandfather's urn, grinning maliciously.Meanwhile, Walter was still gloating over his victory that morning, messaging me on WhatsApp to rub it in."Asher, I suggest you stop fighting it and just divorce Dakota. She doesn't love you anymore, and no amount of scheming on your part will change that.""Why else do you think she hasn't had a child with you in three years? She told me herself. Only my child can be the legitimate heir to the Lennox family!"Reading his messages, I found the whole thing ridiculous. From now on, the Lennox family could keep its bloodline thriving in a cesspool.Grayson pulled one last straggler out from behind a wall.I recognized him immediately as one of Dakota's men, grabbed my stun gun, and shocked him in the chest. As the man convulsed and curled up, I kicked him over and said coldly, "Go back and tell Dakota I got Walter's gif
