Chapter 1 A Grave Promise

Author: The Evil Villain
I watched the Lennox family convoy disappear into the distance, digging my nails deep into my palms.

I pulled out my phone, my voice frighteningly calm. "Grayson, I'll need you to dig up a grave. The Lennox family's ancestral tomb, specifically."

Grayson West sucked in a sharp breath at my audacious request.

"The Lennox family is one of the wealthiest and most influential families in Kingswell. They have people guarding their ancestral tomb. You couldn't even get a fly in there!"

So what? I'd dig up even the grave of the King of Hell himself.

After hanging up, I immediately searched my navigation app for the worst-rated public restroom nearby.

Just then, my phone vibrated with an incoming video call from Dakota.

She showed me a close-up of my mother's urn, with her lavish study visible in the background.

Dakota scoffed, then spoke in a low, threatening voice. "Have you made up your mind? You have 24 hours to transfer the title to the old house to Walter. I'm running out of patience."

My breath hitched, and hatred surged through me so fiercely that I nearly crushed my phone. "If you touch my mother's ashes…"

She wanted the house transferred to Walter? The nerve.

It wasn't until the third year of my marriage to Dakota that I learned the truth about what had happened after Walter left the country in a fit of anger.

He'd been kidnapped and tortured by a criminal organization from Cragfall.

Dakota deeply regretted what had happened. Because Walter and I had the same blood type, she tortured me until I became his personal blood bank.

"Stop stalling, Asher. You owe him this. If it weren't for you, he wouldn't have suffered so much."

Her impatient voice pulled me out of my memories.

I gave a faint smile and looked at the most infamous abandoned public restroom on a toilet-review blogger's blacklist.

"Dakota, keep an eye on your family's ancestral tomb."

Dakota paused in surprise, then mocked me even more contemptuously.

She raised the urn high. With a loud crash, the sandalwood box shattered into pieces.

"Stop wasting my time and transfer the house already. Otherwise, next time, your mother's ashes will end up in a stray dog's bowl."

Dakota dismissively hung up. My reflection appeared on the dark screen, my expression tightly restrained.

Hadn't Lennox Group built its success on the marriage alliance and my father's support?

If Dakota was determined to dig her own grave, I'd give her a gift she'd never forget.

I still had a few trusted people inside the company, so I immediately called Lennox Group's finance department.

"Mason, compile the financial statements from the past few years and email them to me."

I stared coldly at the reports in my inbox, then submitted them anonymously to the Department of Revenue.

I'd barely hung up when Walter's video call came through.

When I'd first met him, he'd been gaunt, frail, and covered in wounds. Now, after living off my blood, he actually looked healthy.

Holding a scruffy mutt, he turned the camera toward the ashes scattered across the floor and gave me a taunting smile.

"Asher, Dakota's been telling me how much of an eyesore this is. I'll have Ollie clean it up for you. Sounds good?"

I started a screen recording, my voice cold and sharp. "Touch my mother's ashes, and I'll make sure your final resting place is no bigger than an urn."

Walter's smile faded slightly, but he still looked at me arrogantly.

"Asher, be smart and sign the divorce agreement already. Otherwise, the more you care about something, the more I'll want to destroy it."

"Good boy, Ollie. Go on, lick it!"

Laughing wildly, Walter pressed the dog's muzzle against the ashes on the floor, forcing him to lick them.

Rage shot through me, and I clenched my teeth so hard until my gums hurt.

"You want me to sign the divorce agreement? Over my dead body!"

Walter rolled his eyes and hung up in disgust.

A dozen or so seconds later, I took a deep breath and contacted the Blue Ridge Excavator Crew.

Just then, Grayson texted to say that everything was ready.

"Mr. Blake, we've assessed the site, and the plan is workable. We can start before dawn tomorrow. But there are several additional burials in the Lennox family tomb. You'll need to be there in person to identify the main coffin."

Dakota kept hounding me, her voice ringing in my ears. My nerves were so taut they began to twitch."Dakota, you've got some nerve. Bring Walter out here!"The door of the black SUV behind me opened, and a man with his hands and feet bound was thrown out.Walter's mouth was taped shut. The moment he saw Dakota, he let out a shrill, muffled wail. "Help… Mmph! Help me!"Dakota's fingers twitched, and she instinctively took a step forward. "Walter!"She turned on me, barely suppressing her anger. "Let Walter go! Don't forget, I still have your mother's ashes!"She raised the urn again to threaten me, but she'd forgotten that we both had leverage over each other now.I walked over, grabbed Walter by the hair, and pulled his face into view. The sound of a slap rang out. Walter glared at me with bitter hatred as I turned to Dakota. "Give me back the ashes, or I'll have him raped in front of everyone here!"Walter's voice grew frantic. Overcome with panic, he broke down crying. "No…

I was young back then. Holding my mother's trembling hand, I didn't understand what she was trying to tell me.I'd never met Dakota, but I didn't want my mother to take risks for my sake. She was already looked down on by the family. If my situation made things even harder for her, wouldn't that make me a terrible son?So I agreed to the arranged marriage. My mother's eyes were red-rimmed, but all she could do was remind me again and again, "If things don't work out, you have to come back and tell me."I never imagined that my marriage to Dakota would sour in just three years. As my mother lay dying in her hospital bed, she wept, her voice trembling."Asher, it's all my fault. I was too weak. If only I'd fought harder to stop you from marrying the Lennox family's daughter, maybe you wouldn't be in this situation now. I've failed you."At the time, my body was covered in needle marks from all the blood they'd taken from me.Until the very moment she closed her eyes, my mother was

Walter was huddled in a corner in his thin pajamas, clutching the bag frantically."Asher! How dare you? If Dakota finds out, she'll never let you get away with this!"I stiffened, blood rushing to my head. When I spoke, my voice was utterly cold."Is that so? She can barely protect herself right now. You don't even know her company has been shut down by the authorities, do you? She might not even escape prison time as its legal representative! Walter, hand it over. Don't make me take it from you."Walter's eyes widened in disbelief. He shook his head. "How is that possible? You're lying! How could anything happen to Dakota?"His fingertips dug into his flesh, and his lips quivered as he struggled to form the words.Suddenly, he raised the bag high outside the window and threatened me with it, as if nothing could stop him."Asher! Lennox Group is a huge corporation. You think reporting it is enough to make it go bankrupt? You're not fooling me! Just wait until Dakota gets here.

I curled my lip and spread my hands. "I'm not. I reserved that spot for your great-uncle. Shame he isn't dead yet."Dakota's expression darkened with the ominous stillness before a storm. She gritted her teeth and spoke one word at a time."Asher, don't forget that I still have your mother's ashes! Do you think you can get away with this? I'll dump every last bit of your mother's ashes into a dog bowl and feed them to the dogs!"My breath caught, and my heart seemed to stop.I stared at the woman I knew so well, yet in that moment, she felt like a complete stranger.Over the past three years, we might not have been madly in love, but we'd always treated each other with respect. The Blake family was on the decline, and I'd become the Lennox family's live-in son-in-law.I took care of her entire family and handled all the day-to-day affairs of the sprawling Lennox Estate. Dakota, meanwhile, was gentle and considerate toward me, the very picture of a good wife.We didn't have chil

I spoke slowly and clearly into the microphone. "You unworthy descendant, come to pay your respects to the Lennox ancestors!"Hundreds of thousands of viewers flooded into the livestream, sending it straight to the top of the hourly trending list. The comments flooded the screen."Damn, that's savage. If someone takes a dump here, does that make it a golden turd?""Save me one! I've never taken a dump on the heads of the big shots before!""This is too good to miss. I'm heading over to see it for myself!"I aimed my camera at the stinking restroom and started announcing my prices."Folks from near and far, don't miss out! Get your limited-time coupon to use the Lennox family graves as a toilet. Just five bucks. You won't regret it!""Get the chance to take a dump right on the Lennox ancestors' heads. The machinery roared, and within seconds, a huge hole had been carved into the grave.Half an hour later, I held Dakota's grandfather's urn, grinning maliciously.Meanwhile, Walter was still gloating over his victory that morning, messaging me on WhatsApp to rub it in."Asher, I suggest you stop fighting it and just divorce Dakota. She doesn't love you anymore, and no amount of scheming on your part will change that.""Why else do you think she hasn't had a child with you in three years? She told me herself. Only my child can be the legitimate heir to the Lennox family!"Reading his messages, I found the whole thing ridiculous. From now on, the Lennox family could keep its bloodline thriving in a cesspool.Grayson pulled one last straggler out from behind a wall.I recognized him immediately as one of Dakota's men, grabbed my stun gun, and shocked him in the chest. As the man convulsed and curled up, I kicked him over and said coldly, "Go back and tell Dakota I got Walter's gif
