“Where are we going?” Lena asked once they left the dorm.

“The computer lab,” Julianne answered.

Lena pulled her brows slightly, not quite understanding why they have to go there. She asked, “Do you have someone outside you want to talk to?”

“Not anymore.”

Her response came so easily and Lena decided not to ask any further.

They broke into the lab and Julianne went to a computer, already turning it on. Lena watched out for any intruder and soon came to check what she was doing.

  • Ashes and Bloodlines    The last Ashblood

“She was the real monster. I met her again, but this time, she wasn’t as old as the last. How did I know she was the one? The pattern was just the same as the last, but this time, something seemed to have changed. The mark on her skin…it burned me the moment I tried to touch her. She was lethal. And she was slowly poisoning the others. No matter how many times I tried to stop her, she came back again. Not twice, not thrice…I couldn’t understand it. How can there be many like her? Then for the first time after the second and third, I manipulated an incubi into seeing through her mind, and all I got were more questions.‘From the Ashes, we will rise again’.It all started to make sense after so many years. I realized I could be the key to ending this curse, but I hesitated. I’m only human after all. It was the only thing that kept me sane because I knew I hadn’t lost my humanity. I only wanted to get rid of the bloodline, not the ones who were affected.I realized if there were none a

Lena watched out for any intruder and soon came to check what she was doing.“Is there any way to get all the students email?” Julianne asked her.Lena pulled her brows. “What are you trying to do?” she asked.“War is imminent. I’m going to extend the break so the other students won’t get dragged into it.”Lena was surprised at such a brilliant idea. She hadn’t given any thoughts about those that went home not until Julianne mentioned it.“The headmistress’ account,” she quickly said. “How do we get that?”Lena smiled and moved closer before tapping on the keyboard. “Luckily, I know o

“I can’t get angry even if I want to. Everything seems so unfair to me, and all I can do is nothing.”Julianne sounded so depressed. The skin on her forehead pulled as she stood and she gave her one last look before turning her feet toward the door.“It wasn’t me,” Velvet spoke before she would leave. “I didn’t do it, Julianne. You have to believe me. These prints…”Julianne stopped, and Cassian paid more attention to what she was about to say. He knows she isn’t the one, even though the evidence points to her as she is the only owner of the print.Velvet sighed and said, “It’s how I communicate with the other hunters. It’s my lead in the forest and their lead to me. I know I’ve done some bad things and I regret it too, but your mother, Marianne…and Fiona…it wasn’t me who killed them.”Julianne turned to look at her and didn’t seem to believe her. “It has been hard for me too, you know? Being born into a cult family like that where all they do is hunt down those that are slightly dif

Velvet knew that Cassian doesn’t joke with his words, and that he meant it when he said he had no use of her. But even if that was true, she couldn’t let them return her to the hunters, not because of what she fears they might do to her, but because she fears what they were plotting.“You can’t do that,” she finally said with a slight plea. “Then watch me,” Cassian threatened further and started to head toward the door. She started to panic inside and before things would get out of hand, she moved her eyes to Julianne who started walking toward her. Then she started to apologize.“I’m really sorry, Julianne, for everything, and about Mari—Ah!”Cassian halted once his hand moved to the door handle and he turned. His brows pulled slightly when he realized what had just happened.Julianne was already consumed by rage and before Velvet would finish speaking, she landed a hard blow across her face.Velvet tasted blood and she felt a hard sting on her face. She moved her head and looked at

Julianne woke up with a start. Her chest heaved up and down and sweat broke out on her forehead. She wiped it off and breathed slowly, regulating her heart’s pace, before moving her eyes to the space next to her.She moved her hand over the sheet and noticed it was cold. How long has he been up? She thought. Her ears soon picked up some voices and she turned her gaze toward the door. She left the bed and walked toward it. When she opened it, her eyes fell first on Cassian, and next to him was Maximus. She could tell from how he spoke that there was a serious matter on ground. “Is something wrong?” she asked, causing them to turn to her at the same time. Both of them said nothing and just stared at her, making her look confused, until she saw Cassian’s jaw tighten. It immediately dawned on her that she was still in his shirt, and her thighs were very bare. She returned to the room without another word and shut the door immediately before scolding herself. The door opened again and s

Cassian led her out of the room and shut the door behind them. The hallway was quieter than before, making Julianne assume that the boys had gone to sleep or were resting in their rooms. She walked a step behind him and stared at the back of his head, unsure of where he was taking her. They finally stopped in front of a dark wooden door at the end of the corridor.Cassian pushed it open and told her, “This is the bathroom the boys on this floor use.” Then he added, “Everyone is in their rooms already, so you won’t be disturbed.”Julianne peeked inside carefully. The room was much larger than she had expected. A row of sinks stretched beneath a long mirror and beyond them were several shower stalls separated by stone walls. Earlier, she had feared that it would be an open space where there was no privacy at all.Surprisingly, everywhere was clean and there was a faint smell of fresh soap instead of the damp smell she had been expecting. She turned to Cassian and asked, “Are you sure th

Julianne was already panting when she reached the front desk of the dorm. The woman looked at her and asked, “Is there anything you want?”“I think someone broke into my room,” she said and tried to catch her breath. The woman looked at her like the calmest person in the whole school, then she aske

Julianne hasn’t seen Cassian for days now since the freshman party. Although, she has seen Remus and Maximus walking together, but it was odd for some reason that he was not with them. Also, she noticed lately that Marianne has stopped covering up her neck and has been hanging out with the other tw

Cassian stared at the same spot for seconds and his jaw twitched. He blinked and pulled the corner of his lips a bit. Finally, he asked her another question, one that was unrelated to what she said, “Did Tim do or say anything to you the other day you came to the dorm?”Julianne wasn’t expecting a

“How are we going to figure out Julianne? Any plans tonight?” Maximus asked Cassian who was busy dressing up. His hair was still damp from just getting out of shower and from the looks of it, he doesn’t intent on drying it.“It’s freshman party, Max. I would rather not do anything tonight,” replied
