Chapter 6: The Beginning of Torment
The evening air swept through the sky, giving a chilly sensation to the pedestrians on the street. The evening was beautiful and sang nothing but the beauty of nature. Few people walked up and down the streets, and cars zoomed to their destinations. Among the cars that drove to their destinations was a black-tinted Benz, the latest released one. The well-designed tires of the car synced rhythmically with the floor, and its beauty shone off. Inside the car sat a woman dressed in a black suit. Her composure and beauty could capture the heart of any man, even if his heart was made of stone. The suit hung beautifully and elegantly on her skin, and her long, flowy trousers attested to the beauty of the dress. Her black, shiny hair was beautifully styled, and her face was covered in natural makeup. Her ears, wrists, and neck were decorated with golden ornaments, and her legs were enclosed in golden heels. “Miss Rose, we are here already,” Rose’s driver said to her, his eyes piercing into hers as he turned to her. “Ok, John,” Rose smiled at her driver. He was more than just a mere driver to her; he was like a brother and friend who gave her advice when she was confused, and always stood by her. “Are you sure I can do this?” she questioned, her eyes dancing around John, who just let out a nod. “I know you can do anything, Miss Rose. You’re the bravest woman I’ve ever seen,” John chuckled. Rose smiled at him before replying, “I know, right?” She giggled. “By the way, I’ve told you to stop calling me Miss Rose, haven’t I?” Rose pouted jokingly. “I know, but I just can’t imagine myself calling you by your name. You’re my boss, and you’ve really transformed my life for good since I started working with you,” John replied with a hint of appreciation and respect in his tone. “You don’t have to say that all the time,” Rose replied as she prepared herself to step down from the car. “I’ll take it from here. Just stay in here and wait for me,” she said, donning a black shade over her eyes and decorating her head with a black hat. “See you later,” she smiled at John, who let out a calm “Good luck.” Rose stared at the huge, massive building in front of her and sighed, “Nothing really changed.” Without waiting another second, she marched towards the massive building, which had a massive sign on top of it: “Derek’s Enterprise.” … … … . “She’s here, she’s here,” Derek could hear from his office. He could feel his heart racing as he heard this; he could feel his heart almost exploding as he thought of the best possible action to take. Was he to wait for his secretary to come call him, or was he to go out on his own? While contemplating this, the door to his office yanked open, revealing his secretary. “Miss Rose is here,” the young lady called excitedly. “I will be out in a minute,” Derek said, trying to act all bossy. He couldn’t let himself appear flustered in front of his secretary again. His secretary bowed and walked out of his office. Watching her walk out, Derek shifted his suit uncomfortably; he looked into the mirror to ensure his hair was still well-styled. “Perfect!” he said as he stared at his perfect reflection in the mirror. “I am certain she is going to fall for me and sign the contract immediately,” he giggled to himself. He believed his charm was enough to win over any woman. Without delay, he picked up his phone and file from the table and walked out of his office. Outside his office, he took the elevator downstairs, where the meeting would be held. As he walked through the hall leading to the meeting venue, his staff bowed on sighting him, and he just waved at them. He sighed when he finally got to the meeting venue; he stood outside the door, took in a deep breath, and finally pushed the door open. ….. Rose watched as the door swung open. What she had been waiting for forever was finally happening. Her lips widened in a smile as she stared at the long-awaited figure in front of her. “Derek, you haven’t changed at all,” she giggled to herself, as she took in his figure further. ……. Derek’s eyes danced around the gathering for a while before he walked to his seat. His face held a sweet and convincing smile, maybe a trick to win the model’s heart. Even as he walked to his seat, he tried to catch a glimpse of the model’s face, but her shade and hat restricted him, thereby giving him no clue as to who she really was. But just by looking at her stature and the half-view of her open face, he could tell she was damn pretty. He had seen her smile at him while he opened the door, thereby he held it as a testament that his charm was working on her. “Good evening, everyone,” he said as he took his seat. He turned to the model and smiled. “Thank you for honoring my invitation and making this meeting happen,” he said with charisma, and she nodded. …… Rose smiled as she stared at Derek with only one thing ringing in her head: “vengeance.” “Thank you for having me today,” she giggled, her eyes dancing around Derek, who let out a smile and a nod. “Your secretary called me yesterday and told me that your company wants to sign a contract with me desperately,” she continued, giving a pause. “Well, I asked her if the deal was juicy and worth my time, and she said it was. I hope it really is?” Rose giggled, her eyes still dancing around Derek. Derek watched her as she spoke, but he wasn’t listening to her words. He was trying to remember what seemed so familiar about this model. He was trying to figure out why she sounded so familiar, like someone he knew. “Mr. Derek, are you okay? You seem lost,” Rose interrupted his chain of thoughts and pulled him back to reality. She watched as he tried to explain himself, and her smile widened because she knew exactly what was going on in his mind. Now seemed like the perfect time to clear his confusion. “I think you need to know who you’re about to sign a contract with,” she said, her voice low and mysterious. Derek nodded his head stupidly. He was so desperate to catch a glimpse of this model. “Let me introduce myself,” Rose giggled and continued. “My name is Rose Rey, Nice to meet you,” she said, taking off her shade and hat. “Nice to meet you, Derek Reynolds,” she smiled at Derek, who stared at her in fear and shock. His mouth was wide open, and his face showed fear, shock, and horror.Chapter 7: A First Step “Nice to meet you, Derek Reynolds,” she smiled at Derek, who stared at her in fear and shock. His mouth was wide open, and his face showed fear, shock, and horror.Derek stared at the most unexpected figure, as he tried to figure out if he was dreaming or seeing things. As his eyes stayed on Rose, his mind reflected on what had happened five years ago—the night he and Sofia had pushed her down into the ocean. He was certain he had seen her drown into the depths of the ocean, so definitely, he was obviously seeing things, because there was no way Rose could be back.“Are you alright, sir?” a voice pierced into his chain of thoughts, pulling him back to reality. “You have been absent-minded; are you sure you are okay, sir?” The voice proceeded.Derek stared stupidly for a while before letting out a reply. “I am fine,” he said, his eyes not leaving Rose, who only returned a smile.“Are you really okay? You seem flustered,” Rose spoke up, her eyes glittering aroun
Chapter 8: Two can play the game“I think the deal is already signed,” Rose said, pushing the pen aside. She had just signed the contract.“Thank you so much, ma. This means a lot to our company, and I promise that we won’t ever give you a reason to regret signing this contract with us,” Mrs. O smiled, her face filled with gratefulness. She was sure to be promoted now that Rose had signed the contract; Derek had promised her a promotion if she could get Rose on their side.“I think that’s all for now,” Rose giggled from her sitting position, letting out a charming smile.“Yes, ma, that is all for you until the contract kicks off,” Mrs. O replied with a bow.“Okay then. I hope to hear from you guys soon,” Rose said, picking her bag and phone from the table and preparing to leave.“You have been so calm throughout the meeting. I hope you are good?” Rose asked, her eyes dancing around Derek, who still seemed lost and lacked an idea of what was happening around him.Derek stared at her f
Chapter 9: More than an EnemyDerek couldn’t stop himself from fearing the unknown as he waited for the receiver to pick up his call. “Damn!” He cursed in annoyance when the call wasn’t picked up on the first ring. “Where exactly is this punk?” He breathed out in annoyance, his teeth seething and his hand fisting into a tight blow.He jammed his hand against the wall as he dialed the number again. “You better pick up this time, you fool!” He cuffed, unable to contain his anger. As he waited desperately for the receiver to pick up his call, his prayer finally came to pass. “You fool, where did you drop your phone and go?” he barked at his messenger. “Do you know how long I’ve been trying to reach you, you fool?” he barked on, and the man on the other end could do nothing but apologize.“I’m so sorry, sir. I was bathing when you called. I… ““Oh, shut your trashy mouth!” Derek cut him short. “If my life was on the line and I needed you to pick up the call on the first ring, would you h
Chapter 10: A surprise Derek stormed out of his office, leaving his secretary with a clear instruction. “I’ll be back before you know it; take care of the office until I return,” he said, his face reddening with rage.He had never been so flustered by someone. The encounter had left him seething. Outside, his car waited, his driver patiently sitting in the driver’s seat.Derek yanked the front door open and barked a single command: “Get out, I’ll drive myself!” His eyes still blazed with anger, intimidating the now-terrified driver.Without hesitation, the driver leapt out of the driver’s seat and bowed his head in respect. Derek ignored the gesture, his focus solely on his mission. “I’ll call you when I need you,” he said curtly, before speeding off.The driver bowed again, watching as his boss disappeared into the distance. As Derek navigated the bustling streets of NYC, Rose’s threat echoed in his mind. “How could she?” he seethed, slamming his head against the steering wheel. His
Chapter 11: She’s back“Wait! Do you really mean what you just said?” Sofia threw at her husband, her face narrating shock. She clutched her body, her legs shaking with a sense of dread. Her face was etched with horror and shock, and her mouth was sealed with panic. Her long, flowy hair was scattered all over her face as she settled on the couch, and her face was a total mess.“What are we going to do? This might be the end of us,” she suddenly turned to Derek and said. Derek stared at her speechlessly. He knew that informing his wife about Rose’s return would put her in an uncomfortable mood, but he never thought it would make a great mess of her.“Put yourself together,” he heard himself screaming at his wife. He was obviously filled with anger by her attitude. He watched as she stood up from the couch and rushed to him like an angry dog. “Put myself together? Are you crazy?" she barked in his face, her eyes still settled with horror.“How am I supposed to put myself together?”
Chapter 12: A Meeting The ringing of the doorbell snatched Rose from her sleep. She rose up from the couch on which she had slept and sat up. She used her hand to rub her sleepy eyes and yawned out loud. “Gosh!” she muttered, still rubbing her eyes. “How long have I been sleeping?” she said, fixing her eyes on the wall clock, and her eyes flew open. “Darn! I slept for 3 hours?” She gasped in shock and stood up from the couch. “It’s exactly 5:20,” she suddenly realized. The kids should have been back by now, but they weren’t. As she stood there, she wondered what could be keeping them in school when the doorbell rang again. She didn’t realize the doorbell had rung before, even though it was the sound that woke her from her sleep. She was too asleep then to realize it. But now that her eyes were beginning to clear, and she was more aware of her surroundings, she heard it this time around.“It must be them,” she giggled, rushing off to the door. As she got to the door, she stared
Chapter 13: Bad NewsAs Derek’s driver pulled up in front of a massive mansion. Derek walked out of his car after gathering his important files and phone. He stood In front of the massive mansion and breathed out, as if he was trying to catch his breath. His eyes scanned the peculiar building, as it beauty shone forth. It was a three-story building, a type you would barely come across. It was built with the most expensive materials gathered from around the world; its architecture was top-notch, and the color complemented the entire building. It was painted a bright milk color.Huge trees surrounded the building, giving it a relaxing view. Benches were positioned under each tree, inviting visitors to sit and enjoy the view while the breeze from the trees swept through their faces.“Sir Derek,” Derek suddenly heard behind him, and he was forced to look back only to see his grandfather messenger.“Your grandfather asked me to bring you in; please, can you come with me?” The messenger b
Chapter 14: A shocking Discovery Sofia walked down the stairs, her eyes plastered with an evil grin. She seemed to be making a call as she headed to one of the parlour couches and sat down.“Oh, come on! I know what I’m doing,” she giggled into the phone. “You know, I’m so happy. Things are finally going our way,” she continued, her face etched with joy.“How much longer do I need to wait?” the receiver questioned, and Sofia giggled.“Soon, baby, in no time, we will have victory,” Sofia smiled, her heart laced with joy.“You know, I just can’t wait for all this to be over. I’m seriously sick and tired already,” the voice from the other end said.“I know, right? Don’t worry, everything will soon be over, so just hang in there for a while,” Sofia replied.“Right? So, how are things going in your own part?” Sofia chuckled.“Things are going really great, baby girl. Like, I’m literally having the upper hand in everything,” the receiver replied.“Oh, I see. You must really be on the uppe
Chapter 137: A Family Dinner 1 month later……“Come on, babe! Aren’t you done yet?” Derek stressed; he was already tired of waiting for Rose. Him and the kids had been waiting for Rose for almost 30 minutes, and she hadn’t descended the stairs yet.“Gosh, mom! We’re going to be late for the outing,” Kendell poured in frustration, and Rose replied from the room where she was still applying makeup. “I’ll be down in a jiffy; I’m just adding finishing touches to my makeup,” she screamed back.“But you said that twenty minutes ago, and you’re still repeating it,” Derek replied. “Yeah, but I’m serious this time around. I’m done,” Rose said, already cracking the door to the room open.“I told you I am done,” she said as soon as she stepped out of the room. Hearing the sound of the door opening and noticing her voice grew nearer was enough to inform them that she had finally stepped out of the room.“Gosh, mom! It took you forever to look this beautiful,” Ken gasped, taking in his mom’s beaut
Chapter 136: Too Hard to Believe Derek and Rose paced around the Dave’s restlessly; yes, they were still definitely mad at Dave for what he did, but they never wanted any harm to come to him. As they strolled around impatiently, Mr. Reynolds and Sofia could be seen walking into the hospital with worried looks on their faces. Derek had called them earlier to inform them about Dave’s condition.“How is he doing?” Mr. Reynolds asked the couple as soon as he was close enough.“The doctor isn’t out yet; we’re still waiting for him,” Rose replied, as if she had been forced to.“Ouch!” Mr. Reynolds mumbled and sat in a provided seat. “I just hope nothing happens to him,” he said with desperation in his tone.“I might be mad at him for what he did to me, but honestly, the last thing I wanted was for him to end up in that hospital; I never wanted that,” Derek said after a while of pacing around.“You don’t need to worry, son. I believe everything will be alright, so worry not and keep prayin
Chapter 135: Unexpected Turnaround Two months later………“Do we really need to go see that jerk?” Rose said with dissatisfaction as the driver drove her and Derek to the station. “Of course, babe. I’m so desperate to see him, and I just don’t know why,” Derek clarified, but Rose gave a loud hiss. “So you’re suddenly concerned about a man who nearly sent you to an early grave? Absurd!” She folded her hands under her breast and turned away. Of course, that act of hers was to be pampered by her husband.“No, babe, I’m not going there because I care for him. I’m going because I have this great urge to, and furthermore, I really need to clarify something from him,” Derek explained further. “Whatever! Do as you please. What can I even do? It’s not as if you ever listen to me.”“Oh, babe, but I always do. You know you’re my best advisor,” Derek said, tickling Rose, but she remained stern. “If you always listen to me, then why aren’t you listening now? Why are you being really naughty now?”
Chapter 134: A Special moment As Rose waited anxiously in the waiting room, she noticed Sofia and Mr. Reynolds approaching her from the corner of her eye. Immediately, she turned away, attempting to avoid a conversation with them. “Rose, how long will you continue avoiding us? You know this isn’t the right time for this, right? Even if you want to be mad at us, it shouldn’t be now, please,” Sofia said calmly, standing in front of Rose. Mr. Reynolds stood nearby, listening as Sofia spoke.Slowly, Rose lifted her head and stared at Sofia. “I’m not angry at anyone; I’m just in a lot of trouble now,” she replied calmly, turning to face them. “I’m sad that Derek had to go through all of that alone, and that I’ve been blaming him without knowing the reasons behind his actions,” she continued, her voice laced with pain. “I feel terrible for not sharing in his pain or supporting him through his difficult time. I was always quick to blame him without understanding his predicament.”Sofia sa
Chapter 133: The Hidden Truth“Sorry that I had to take that call,” the doctor said, dropping his phone on the table. Earlier on, before Mr. Reynolds could say the things he wanted to, the doctor’s phone rang, alerting him to a call he had to take. “It’s nothing,” Mr. Reynolds said with a calm smile, but beneath his smile, his tension still flickered around. “Thanks for understanding, sir. So, you can start now; I am ready to listen.” The doctor assured with a bright smile, and Mr. Reynolds nodded and shifted uncomfortably on his seat. He stretched his back and cleared his throat before saying his first words, “Well, it’s a long story.” His voice was filled with emotions as he spoke. The doctor and Sofia turned to him with keen attention. Mr. Reynolds gave a sad sigh before he continued, “A long time ago, Derek’s mom died while giving birth to him, thereby leaving him in the care of his dad.”“A year after his mom’s death, I advised his dad to get remarried, seeing how difficult
Chapter 132: A Call for AlarmSofia and Mr. Reynolds waited impatiently for the doctor to arrive and give them a report. Derek had been taken to a ward, and now they were made to wait helplessly for the doctor’s arrival. A few minutes later, they saw the doctor coming from afar, and before the man could get closer to them, they rushed to him to inquire how things were going with Derek.“Doctor, how is my son doing?” Mr. Reynolds was the first to speak, and they waited impatiently for the doctor’s response. “Please, can we talk in my office?” the doctor said instead of responding, and Mr. Reynolds and Sofia gave each other a quick glance before they turned back to the doctor.“Ummmm, okay,” Mr. Reynolds responded, and they both followed the doctor to his office. They walked for a while before arriving at the doctor’s office, and upon getting there, he directed them to two seats where they sat before he occupied his. Taking his seat, he cleared his throat before turning to the adults
Chapter 131: Another Display “I need to bathe and rest too,” she made to leave, but Derek stopped her before she could make another move.“Please, I want to discuss with both of you,” Derek said, catching them off guard.Sofia quickly stopped on her track and gave Derek a quick stare. Slowly, her eyes moved to Rose, who stared back, blankly. “Ok,” she stuttered and returned to her seat. As she sat, she wondered what was going through Derek’s mind, what exactly he wanted to say to them.“Uhmm! Sorry for interrupting you, but I just couldn’t stop wondering, so I decided to inquire from you both.” Derek spoke, his eyes moving across the ladies. The room was silent for a while before he began again, “I wanted to know how you two know each other.” Derek asked the most confusing question. The ladies gave each other a shocking stare, unsure of what he meant by such a question. “What exactly are you trying to say? How do we know each other?” Rose was the first to speak, her face bathed in
Chapter 130: A Word The family sat on the dining table having dinner together. The dining table was filled with all kinds of assorted food. “Yum! This tastes so good,” Ken said with a mouth full of spaghetti. “I really missed having something this good,” he added. “I think this tastes better; the taste is just so nice,” Kendell chimed in, her mouth also filled with food.“Don’t forget the table manners, eat and stop talking,” Rose said calmly, her eyes dancing around the kids, who nodded calmly and kept quiet. “Please, let my grandchildren be; why are you dismissing them? They are marveling at this beauty, so let them,” Mr. Reynolds chimed in, his eyes quickly moving to Rose and then to the kids. The kids gave a bright smile and looked at their mom, who only shook her head and remained calm. “You see why Grandpa shouldn’t stay here? He would definitely spoil the kids,” Derek rolled his eyes at Mr. Reynolds. “Oh my! Oh my! You little brat,” Mr. Reynolds twisted Derek ears who sat
Chapter 129: A Child Three weeks later… The family has been discharged from the hospital, and now it’s time to return home. “It’s finally great to be able to return home,” Kendell releases a broad smile and looks up at her mom, who stood behind. “Right? I really wished to go home right away because I really don’t like the amount of people being rushed here daily. It breaks my heart,” Ken, who was standing next to her, chipped in with a sad scowl. “Honestly, it breaks my heart so badly that I wish to cry whenever I see such,” Kendell backed her brother.“Gosh! They talk like they have existed for ages,” Sofia, who stood not far from Rose, said to her in a surprised tone, and the entire room erupted in laughter. “You haven’t even seen anything; sometimes I wonder if they are really kids because they act so mature, and let’s not even talk about the way they talk,” Rose laughed.“I have already seen everything that is needed to be seen. The few days I have spent with them are enough
