CHAPTER TEN

James

As I hurriedly pushed Marina away from Rosa’s presence, my heart pounded wildly in my chest at that close encounter with Don, and Marina’s stupid slip up.

What sort of mistake was that?

“Why are you pushing my chair, James? You need to calm down.” Marina hissed at me, and I let out a frustrated sigh.

“Don’t tell me to calm down, Marina. Don’t you know what you almost cost us? Why would you mention something that sensitive in public? Didn’t you think it through?”

What she did was an incredibly stupid thing to do and if I wasn’t smart with covering it up, we could have been killed. Who lets a man who we’ve been suspecting know that he’s been the topic of our decision? If he was truly evil, something I still had my doubts about since he was my father in law, he wasn’t going to hesitate to do something to us.

We had no defense. In a fight like that, we were going to obviously emerge the losers.
