Nikolai POV

When I reached the address the woman had given me, I had already rehearsed a dozen possible scenarios in my head. It was dark, not the kind of darkness that sat quietly in a corner, but the kind that crawled along the walls like a living thing. The building looked abandoned from the outside, windows shattered, bricks eaten by time and weather. Yet the faint glow of light spilling through the cracks told a different story. There was movement inside. Someone was there, someone waiting.

I pushed the door open, the heavy creak echoing through the empty hall like a warning. The air smelled of old liquor, dust, and faint traces of smoke. What looked like a warehouse had been converted into some kind of underground bar. The counters were lined with broken bottles, and a single bulb flickered above a table where two men sat, whispering. Their eyes lifted the moment I stepped in.

“Looking for someone?” one of them asked, his voice rough, like gravel grinding against metal.

Rhett's POV I sat at the edge of my bed long after the morning bell had rung, my mind heavy with thoughts that refused to settle. The scent of blood still lingered in the corners of my memory, faint but sharp enough to remind me of how close I had come to losing everything. My body ached with every breath, but the pain was bearable compared to the silence that now filled the packhouse. The hallways outside my room were quieter than usual, stripped of the laughter and the steady rhythm of daily life. It felt like grief had seeped into the walls, and I was the one who had painted it there. I rang the small bell beside me and one of the guards entered immediately. His expression was careful, almost fearful. Maybe they all thought I had gone too far, locking up my beta and driving away my gamma. Maybe they were right. "Send for Nikolai," I said, my voice rough. "Tell him I want him in my study at once. And have one of the maids bring me my black tea." The guard bowed quickly and left.

Third person POV Killian opened his eyes to a blinding light that burned his vision. The ground beneath him was soft, the scent of soil and flowers heavy in the air. When the haze cleared, he found himself lying in the middle of a vast garden. It stretched endlessly in every direction, filled with flowers of every color imaginable. Each petal shimmered faintly as though coated with dew, but the air was dry and still. He pushed himself up slowly, his body aching with confusion. The last thing he remembered was Nikolai’s face, the sound of his name being called, and then darkness swallowing him whole. Now he stood in a place that felt alive yet wrong. The silence pressed against his ears until it became almost unbearable. He took a step forward. The soft earth shifted beneath his boots. A gentle wind whispered through the garden, carrying faint sounds like laughter and sobs tangled together. He frowned, turning slowly, searching for the source, but saw nothing but endless rows of bl

Rhett's POV I stood there frozen long after Nikolai left the room. The door slammed shut behind him, the echo lingering in the silence that followed. My chest felt heavy, the weight of his words pressing down on me harder than any wound I had ever taken. The sound of the monitor beside Killian’s bed filled the air again, steady and indifferent. For a moment, I could not move. My hands trembled slightly at my sides. The anger in Nikolai’s eyes was something I had never seen before. I had seen him furious in battle, sharp and focused, but not like that. That had been something else. That had been disappointment. The air in the room felt colder suddenly. I turned my gaze toward Killian, his body lying motionless under the sheets. He looked peaceful, but I could feel the faint pulse of his wolf beneath the surface. It was weak, flickering like a dying ember, but still there. Nikolai had been right about that much. I took a slow step forward, my legs unsteady. The pain in my abdomen f

  • BLOODBOUND: The Wolf, The King and The Killer   133

Nikolai POV I stood by the side of the bed, watching the still figure lying before me. Killian’s chest barely moved, so faint that I would have missed it if I did not know how to look for it. The room was quiet except for the low hum of the machines and the occasional scrape of the doctor’s pen against his clipboard. The air smelled of antiseptic, sharp and heavy. I hated that smell. It always reminded me of endings. The pack doctor adjusted the tube connected to Killian’s arm and sighed quietly. His expression was difficult to read, but I could tell he was unsettled. We all were. I had brought Killian here myself, carrying him from the prison after he had collapsed in my arms. I could still feel the cold weight of his body, the way his skin had turned pale in seconds. It had not been normal. Even for a wolf, the sudden shift had felt unnatural. His wolf aura had flickered but never disappeared. That was the only thing keeping me steady now, the faint hum of his energy still linge

Killan's POV I woke to a sound that did not belong in my world. A loud bang that split the air open and echoed through my head like a hammer striking metal. My eyes snapped open and I sat up quickly, breath heavy, hands gripping the soft ground beneath me. For a moment, I thought I was still in my room. The last thing I remembered was talking to Nikolai. Then the world went dark. But this place was nothing like home. The ground beneath me was soft, covered in short green grass that shimmered faintly under the light of a distant sun. I looked around, squinting. A garden stretched endlessly in every direction, filled with flowers of every color I had ever seen and some that I had not. Red, blue, gold, and silver, glowing faintly like tiny flames. The air smelled sweet, almost too sweet, and every breath I took made my chest feel heavier. For a second, it was beautiful enough to make me forget the fear pressing at the edges of my mind. But then I saw the blood. Thin streaks of red st

Nikolai's POV The corridor outside Rhett’s room was silent when I stepped out. The air still carried the faint scent of medicine and smoke. I paused for a moment, listening to the distant movements in the packhouse. The night had settled heavy, filled with the low murmur of healers tending to the wounded and the occasional thud of boots on the floor as guards changed shifts. Rhett was alive and recovering, which meant I could finally do what I should have done hours ago. I walked down the main hallway, my mind already turning over the next task. The infirmary lights faded behind me, replaced by the dim lanterns that lined the lower corridors. The further I went, the colder it became. The prison sat deep beneath the eastern wing, far from the noise of the living spaces. Every step echoed against the stone. The guards at the entrance straightened when they saw me. One of them spoke before I could open my mouth. “Beta Nikolai, Alpha’s orders were clear. No one is to enter without di
