OLIVIA

Staying indoors, trying to keep a low profile, made my bones ache with restlessness. I hadn’t seen Axel in days, and to make matters worse, Nelly had moved back into the house.

She was back to her old ways—yelling at the staff, barking orders, and looking for anyone to take her anger out on. But this time, I wasn’t going to be one of her minions.

Something had shifted inside me. My confidence was returning, and I wasn’t going to give her the chance to bully me anymore.

That afternoon, I escaped the suffocating walls of my room and strolled into the garden. The sweet scent of flowers wafted through the air, and the warm breeze kissed my skin.

I should have known he would be there. I had been avoiding him for days. Yet, there he was, crouching a few feet away, his face buried in the plants he was tending.

He didn’t know I was there. I tried to spin around, to run, to walk away like I hadn’t been there at all.

It was too late.

“Olivia.” His hoarse voice stopped me.

I swallowed ha

AXEL SALVATORE ROSSI.“How could you do that, Rosa?!” My throat cracked as I screeched. “Olivia looked up to you. She. Loved. You.”Her eyes burned a bright red, unshed tears glistening in them. I wasn’t buying that look, that fucking crap. She’d acted more recklessly with Olivia than I’d done.“I’m sorry, Ace,” she murmured, clasping her hands together. “I… I didn’t mean to—‘“—Clearly you did,” I brushed her off, squeezing the envelope in my grasp. “You had every choice to refuse and back out. You could have told me. Everything! Do you have any idea what you’ve done? Do you?!”She trembled, her chest heaving. Rosa buried her face in the ground, tears streaming down her cheeks.“She could get hurt for real,” I growled. “They’re not going to stop until they get something out of her. You know how dangerous they are; you know what they’re capable of!”I raked my hands through my hair, inhaling the fresh air before blowing it through my mouth, hoping it would calm me.I’d heard everythin

  • BOUND TO THE MAFIA LORD   The walls are closing in.

OLIVIA“N-Nelly?”I couldn’t believe my eyes. She stared down at me, her lips twisted in disgust. The fire in her eyes was enough to burn a forest. I could feel the heat radiating from her body, warning me in advance that I might have crossed a line.Slowly, she held the edges of her hoodie and lifted it, pulling it over her head. Beneath that black, thick hoodie was a strapless burgundy gown that hugged her figure. And showed her little bump.A reminder that she was also carrying Axel’s baby. His only true heir that he’d accepted.Something that went into my chest like a knife twisted deep. She threw down the hoodie, crushing the fabric by stepping on it, and maintaining intense eye contact on me.Her face was purple with rage, eyes glaring threateningly at me. The scent of her expensive perfume hovered in the air, and my nose caught a whiff of it.She took a step closer, bending slightly as she brought her head down to mine.I had so many questions in mind, but I couldn’t deciphe

  • BOUND TO THE MAFIA LORD   The devil you know.

OLIVIAWeakness. The kind of weakness I felt couldn’t be described through words. My whole body was trembling, it felt like I carried the world alone on my shoulders. My lips quivered, and I couldn’t even open my eyes. A tingling sensation of cold coursed through my body, searing like I was about to freeze.Something caught up in my throat, forcing me to remain quiet. Slowly and steadily, I pushed through the pain, forcing my eyes open. But I almost shut them back immediately. That room was scary. Dark. Eerie. The smell in there was stronger than anything I’ve ever inhaled. Choking. Unpleasant. Like rotten bodies laid everywhere.Hallucination or not, I could hear voices that made my heart race in fear. Scary images stared at me, or maybe I imagined them with the rate my heart leaped in my chest. My throat was all dried up. I needed something to soften the dryness, the pain, something that would drown the growing fear.Aside from the darkness, something held me bound in place. They so

  • BOUND TO THE MAFIA LORD   Drowned in memories.

AXEL SALVATORE ROSSI“How did you get that bruise?”I asked Viper, my eyes staring at the scar he had on his right arm. It was long, running about three inches, like he’d been pierced by something sharp. His eyes fell to the spot, and I watched how nonchalantly he shrugged his shoulders like it was nothing serious.“Can’t even remember.” He took a puff from his cigarette, turning around and walking towards the door. “Might have been something Laura scratched me with.”I turned my face away. Laura was his six-year-old daughter, so it was quite understandable that she might have done that during their playtime. The room, the whole mansion, everything felt suffocating, and it wasn’t making me breathe normally anymore.Space. Fresh air. A moment alone in Olivia’s room. That was what I needed. Her familiar scent was the only thing that could calm my nerves at that moment.“Tell the men not to touch Isabella,” I muttered to him, readjusting my cuff links as I reached for the doorknob. “I’ll

  • BOUND TO THE MAFIA LORD   Broken.

AXEL SALVATORE ROSSI.“I brought some tea for you, it’ll help you sleep and relax better.”Rosa’s voice filtered into the bathroom where I was, standing over the shower as the cold water poured down my body.I didn’t say anything. For the next few seconds, I stood still in silence; the only noise came from the room and the door Rosa had shut behind her.And of course, the running water that seemed to drown every other sound I didn’t pay attention to.To say I was broken wasn’t enough to describe the emotional state I’d found myself in.Shattered. Destroyed. Half-dead.Any of those words was a better description. Even worse.Seeing Olivia’s body in that coffin had done nothing but damage my whole being. I was expecting her return but never imagined seeing her come back to me… lifeless.I swore never to rest until I got to the bottom of what had happened. They’d murdered her in cold blood—killed her for doing absolutely nothing.I’d been in that shower for over thirty minutes. I wasn’t

  • BOUND TO THE MAFIA LORD   Rossi’s search.

AXEL SALVATORE ROSSI.I walked outside, my footsteps resounding on the marble floor as I searched for Viper. He was close to the gates when I saw him. His back was turned against me as he held a conversation with one of the guards.I clenched my fists, seething with the anger that coursed through my veins. Slowly and steadily, I approached him.“Where is Olivia?” I asked him, interrupting whatever conversation he was having. He swerved around to look at me, his eyes narrowed in confusion.“Why are you asking me that?”The guard excused himself, turning around to walk away after I gave him a signal.I buried both hands inside my pockets, forcing myself to remain calm.“I am not joking with you, Ansel.”“Well, your question clearly sounds like a joke to me.”I tightened my jaw, exhaling deeply before stroking my chin with two fingers. We stood, staring at each other, only a few feet away with a gap between us.“What did you do to Olivia?” I drew the words out slowly, hoping they’d sink
