The hospital hummed beneath her. Alina’s fingers hovered over her laptop, instincts sharp.

Sebastian stood outside the observation room, directing Milton and the bodyguards while watching the monitors. Alina noticed him.

“We need to talk,” she said, voice low. “Privately.”

Sebastian looked up, expression calm. "Of course." He fell in step beside her, moving through the quiet hum of the hospital, where alarms and digital pings barely registered.

The door clicked shut behind them. The faint network pings filled the office. She motioned to a chair but stayed standing, eyes shifting between him and the blinking alerts on her screens.

“This started because of you,” she said. “Someone’s tracking you, Sebastian, and now, whoever it is, they’re connecting everything back to me. To the twins. If this escalates, our children’s identities could be exposed. I can’t risk that, especially Charlotte. She’s not fully recovered.”

Sebastian remained calm. “Then we move,” he said. “Atheria. I can protec

The VIP room buzzed with laughter and clinking glasses. Alina excused herself and headed to the restroom, the warm light and soft music wrapping around her.On her way back, something caught her eye, a familiar figure seated at a corner table. At first, she hesitated. Could it really be her?A woman in her early fifties, poised but distant, glanced briefly toward Alina. There was a flicker of recognition in her eyes... or maybe surprise. Not happiness, certainly. The woman looked away, as if noticing her presence was already too much.Alina’s heart skipped. She knew that face. She hadn’t seen her in more than a decade. Her mother... Catherine Hart.Memories rushed back: the quiet home filled with books and sketches, her father Jonathan Hart’s careful guidance before he passed when she was fifteen, her mother’s absence and emotional distance, the sudden choices that left Alina to navigate the world alone.Alina studied the people around her mother. A man in his fifties, older than her

“Someone was testing the waters, and Sebastian was the only one who knew it.”At Vaughn Enterprises, Sebastian didn’t need speculation.John reported quietly, “The blind item is circulating. No names, no direct references. The timing lines up with Fairfax’s collapse.”Sebastian’s expression remained composed. “Natasha,” he said without hesitation.“Yes, sir.”“She’s not leaking,” Sebastian continued, voice steady. “She’s probing. Applying pressure, measuring how much it takes to draw a response.”He steepled his fingers, gaze unreadable. “Let her,” he said softly. “We observe. We anticipate. And when she moves again, we’ll know exactly where, when, and how to respond.”John glanced at him. “Do you want to counter now?”“No,” Sebastian replied. “Not yet. First we learn the rules of her game. Then we control them.”Across the city, at the Vaughn mansion, Alina reached the same conclusion alone. Her eyes scanned the phrasing, the rhythm of the article, the way it hinted without naming an

Fairfax Trading collapsed faster than anyone expected. Once the legal filings went public, the markets reacted immediately. The billion‑dollar Atheria port contract was officially awarded to Trade Nexus, and with that loss, Gideon Fairfax’s empire began to unravel. Bankruptcy was no longer a possibility. It was approaching fast.Inside Fairfax Tower, Gideon paced his office, phone pressed tight to his ear, the strain showing despite his effort to contain it.“Natasha,” he snapped. “You have leverage with Vaughn. What are you doing? Sebastian cannot be allowed to walk away from this. Not after what he’s done.”On the other end, Natasha’s voice was steady, almost cool. “I’m aware of the situation, Dad. You’re not the only one affected.”Gideon stopped short. “Affected?” His voice hardened. “This is humiliation. Investors are pulling back. The board is in chaos. He outplayed us, and you sound unmoved.”“I know exactly what this costs,” she replied. “Our name included. But acting without

Nathaniel scanned the classroom with quiet focus, noting movement and patterns without breaking stride. Jamal stood near the door, unobtrusive but alert. A few teachers noticed, exchanged glances, and moved on, they knew who Nathaniel was, and what came with him.Across the room, Nolan and a small group of boys whispered, openly watching. Nathaniel registered them with a brief narrowing of his eyes. He already had them mapped, leaders, followers, watchers. Potential distractions. Possible problems.Mr. Samson began the lesson. Nathaniel slid into it seamlessly, answering questions with calm precision. Heads turned. Brows lifted. Whispers quieted, replaced by curiosity and irritation. Nolan leaned toward a friend, smirking. “That kid thinks he’s smarter than the rest of us.”Nathaniel noticed and let it pass. He observed, assessed, and waited, letting their arrogance reveal itself. The cafeteria buzzed with noise. Nathaniel paused only briefly, taking it in, then moved toward an open t

A few days later, the house woke early.Nathaniel was already dressed when Alina opened his door. Shirt tucked, shoes aligned by the bed, backpack waiting. He sat on the edge of the mattress, hands folded, calm, alert.“You didn’t need an alarm,” Alina said softly.“I know,” he replied. “I didn’t want to be late.”She smiled, brushing a hand through his hair. There was something quietly striking in his stillness, intention in every motion.Downstairs, breakfast was unhurried. Charlotte chattered between bites, while Nathaniel ate methodically, listening more than he spoke. Sebastian watched silently, noting everything.Outside, the car waited. Manfred, the driver, held the door open with precise calm. Jamal lingered a few steps back, eyes scanning as Nathaniel slid into the back seat. Jamal settled in the front, alert but unobtrusive. The car glided away, silent against the city streets. The drive was uneventful at first, familiar streets, predictable traffic. Then Jamal noticed the s

Celebrations didn’t stop the game, they only forced it to be played in plain sight.Natasha didn’t linger. She never did. After delivering her quiet warning, she slipped back into the room as if nothing had passed between them, laughing lightly with Celeste, accepting a drink, elegance effortless. To anyone watching, she was just another guest: composed, polished, harmless.Sebastian knew better. From the corner of his eye, he tracked Natasha as she approached Arthur and Emilia. Pleasantries were exchanged, smiles carefully measured. Natasha’s hand touched Emilia’s arm, intentional but fleeting. Emilia accepted it with polished warmth, attentive, assessing, open, but never unguarded. Their interaction flowed smoothly, two women fluent in appearances.Arthur, by contrast, offered only restrained courtesy. His nod was polite but distant, his attention already returning to the twins, the party, the moment, anything but her.Gideon remained a step behind, observing. His gaze moved methodi
