Freddy's Pov

I cocked a brow, “Really? That's not very comforting.”

She smiled, “No. Not in a bad way. My dad was also strong-willed.”

Was? Why was she talking about her father in the past tense? Like he was dead.

The man at the wedding was her stepfather or something?

No. He had mentioned memories from when Lilyanna was just a baby.

“Stubborn. He acted like he knew everything best. I used to piss my mother off so badly. But under all that, there was this deep love for his family that no one could ever deny. I think your father might have that, too. Buried under all that pride and control.”

I scoffed, “Yeah. Right. Or maybe he's just a man too obsessed with power and does not know when and how to let go,”

“Do you hate him?” She asked, her tone soft.

I thought about it for a while. My father had done things. Things he deserved to be hated for. But I could not say I hated him still.

“I pity him,” I said slowly.

Her mouth opened. Closed. Then, I opened again, but no words came out. She

William's POV The glass of wine trembled in my hands. No, I was not shaking.Montgomery's never shook.I was trying my best to control the rage simmering below my skin. The rage that threatened to boil over.Today, Freddy did something he had never done in all the years of his life.He had crossed the line.My own son, my blood, whom I had moulded to perfection, had the audacity to walk me out of his home. And it was all because of her.The dumb little blonde with her bright eyes and sweet voice. She had turned his head. She has him wrapped around her little finger. Just the same way he was once wrapped around mine. And now, he couldn't even see that she was dragging us all to ruin.I downed the rest of my drink in one gulp and poured another.Worse, he had mentioned his mother.Your pride is the reason Mom isn’t with us anymore. But could he blame me?Could anyone blame me?The heart wants what it wants. I couldn't force myself to love her.I couldn't pretend to feel a certain way

Freddy's Pov When Lilyanna and I stepped into the grand sitting room, my father was already waiting, sitting on the throne-like lounge like he owned the place.I pulled Lilyanna in and kissed her cheeks, right before she followed Sundae up the steps. I didn't miss my father's look of disapproval as his eyes followed her. I took the seat opposite my father, waiting for what he had to say. I signaled to the butler to bring a drink for us. He did so and poured it out, handing one cup to Dad and one to me. After he left, my father studied me for some time, swirling his drink.“Have you seen the quarterly reports?” He began.Hannah had passed them to me at work in the morning.“Yes,” I said, almost inaudibly, knowing where he was heading.“And?”“The numbers are off.” I said bluntly, “ There are discrepancies in two divisions. The margins are shrinking and our operational costs are creeping up.”My father nodded once, then took a long and slow sip of his whiskey, “Good. At least you'r

Kaelia's POV That evening, as Freddy helped me out of the car, he leaned in close enough for his breath to brush my ear and said, “Get dressed, we're going for a ride,” He commanded in a way that sent ripples down my spine. There was nothing else, no clue as to where we were going.“A ride?” I laughed, “Freddy Montgomery, are you kidnapping me?”His lips twitched, “Maybe. You'll find out when we get there.”An hour later, as I stepped into the car again, my heart beat with excitement.Throughout the ride to wherever it is we were going, Freddy held my hand. At times, he turned to look into my eyes, his gaze unreadable.I could feel words bubbling in my chest, but I didn't dare speak. Not yet.The ride stretched on. We passed through busy streets and quieter ones with fewer cars. Finally, the car slowed.“Where are we?” I asked, leaning forward slightly so I could look out of the window.Freddy didn't answer. Instead, he flashed me a smile and stepped down from the car. Then, he ro

Kaelia's POV Staying away from Freddy was one thing. But staying away from Freddy and Landon was a whole ass job.Working at the Montgomery Grand was slowly starting to become hell, and more than once, I thought about resigning. But I loved my job.I loved being able to solve issues. It was my birthday today. Normally, my birthday was a sad time for me. Because I'd wake up feeling like a failure. This year, however, was different. I woke up to a small royal blue box lying beside me. I guessed it was a diamond-studded piece. But no, it was even better. It was a locket. With a tiny photo inside.A photo of me. It's probably not the most beautiful thing in the world, but it felt special to me. I had grown up without all this. I barely received presents on my birthday. I used to receive a lot right before my father died. But after that, mom could barely afford much.Next to the box, I found a letter attached to a single Juliet rose. It was handwritten by Freddy. Happy Birthday t

  • Being Mr CEO's Bride   Chapter 35

Kaelia's POV Lying is hard.It eats you up slowly. And when you start, it's almost impossible to stop.Today, Freddy and I were going to my new workplace, which I swore countless times was real.Last night, as we ate dinner, I had told him that since he now knew my real job, he had to meet my co-workers because they were dying to meet him.I did this in a bid to earn his trust again.I thought if I showed him to my co-workers, it would give him the idea that I was not lying this time.Freddy was not so much in support of the idea of meeting them.“It isn't necessary, Lily. I believe you,”But blame my deep-seated trust issues for the fact that I did not believe him for a moment.I pressed on until he finally gave in.As the car made the last turn, heading to InkTickler, I prayed silently to every deity known to man that the Asian lady who owned the shop would not mess this up.How had I met her?Well, fate. Or should I say a Google search and sheet desperation?I had gone online, sea
