Chapter 1. Meeting Daddy

Mike and Mika ran away from the supermarket employees. They slipped between the mall patrons without showing their frightened faces. In each hand, the five-year-olds held a large chocolate bar.

A group of people moved opposite the twins. In front led a tall, well-built man with a charming face and a cold expression. Following him, a group of men with uneasy faces.

At one point they met. The two children bumped into the man leading the group and hid behind him while holding the hem of his coat.

"Daddy, they're chasing us!" Mike exclaimed while pointing at two supermarket employees whose faces immediately turned pale.

The man was not a random person. Everyone in the neighborhood knew him. He was Cade Goldwin, the richest businessman in the town of Axton.

The man didn't like foreign touches. So his face was suddenly grim when he felt small hands grasping the hem of his suit. He stopped walking and looked down.

Cade was about to say something cold and sharp to repel the two boys, but seeing the smile on the cute face, he suddenly decided against it. Everything about that boy was like he had seen it before.

"Daddy." Mika pulled and shook the big arm. "Don't you recognize us?"

Cade was a man of few words. He had never lost his ability to speak like he did when he saw these two children. After a moment he knew he saw himself in both of them. Especially the boy, Cade saw an image of himself as a child.

"Sir, that child, they—“ One of the employees stammered. Mr. Goldwin was known to be the most dreamed bachelor of Axton city women. There was never any news that he had a child out of wedlock. But perhaps he had recently adopted some children. Who knows?

"What's the matter?" Cade said coldly, making the two employees chasing Mike and Mika feel their knees tremble.

"They just stole—“

The truth must be told, right? The lanky employee decided to tell the truth even though he had to speak in disjointed sentences.

"You heard what they called me. This place belongs to me. They're free to take anything." Although he didn't hear any comments around him because everyone was so afraid of making a mistake, Cade knew that everyone was wondering.

Cade himself was surprised by his decision to protect these two children. He never tolerated cheating even if it was done by a child.

Behind him, the boy looked up at Cade with a satisfied smile. They had succeeded in the first step of winning over this great man.

Langdon, Cade's assistant looked at his master with curiosity. He knew his master was speculating about something.

But these two boys did look a lot like Cade Goldwin. No one would deny it.

"Daddy, we won't bother you anymore. We're leaving." Mike released his grip on the hem of Cade's suit.

Almost simultaneously, Mika reluctantly let go of Cade's hand.

Mike had turned to leave when he stopped his movement. "O, I have something for Daddy."

Everyone watched as the boy took out a folded paper from his jacket pocket and held it out to Cade. The man hesitated before moving his hand to accept.

Before the paper was opened, both children had turned around and ran away without looking back.

Cade unfolded the paper which turned out to be a photo. There was a view of him sleeping on the bed.

Cade's heart seemed to stop, but his expression was very calm.

This had something to do with that night six years ago.

All eyes looked curiously at Cade. Even though they knew their curiosity would never be resolved.

Cade turned over the photo sheet and found simple handwriting.

‘If this photo arrives in your hands, it only means that these children have lost their mother.’

“Langdon, get someone to investigate those kids,” Cade said quickly as he put the photo into his coat pocket. He didn’t believe in coincidences like this.

“Yes, sir.” Langdon nodded respectfully and called out to the person standing at the back of the group. Speaking in a low voice the person could not be heard clearly by the people around them.

Cade raised his face to stare straight ahead. Right now, he didn’t have time to recall the incident. So, he moved on and continued his visit to the mall.

Fortunately, no reporters were watching. Axton City would have been in an uproar when that part of Cade’s past was revealed and exposed in the media.

In another part of the mall.

Fay looked anxiously around. For a few minutes, her heart felt out of place.

The three of them were looking around the playground. Just looking around. Because they didn’t have the money to buy an entrance ticket. Then suddenly the two children disappeared.

At first Fay thought, she would find them on one of the playground equipment. But Mike and Mika were nowhere to be found in the playground.

Panic gripped Fay’s heart. She started cursing the two children for not staying still for a moment and cursed herself for letting her guard down. She knew from the start that Mike and Mika were not easy children to handle.

Fortunately, when the panic reached its highest point, Fay saw the shadows of the two children running into the playground. It felt like every bone in Fay’s body was being dissolved. She was suddenly like soft jelly and almost fell from weakness. Relief can make a person lose strength.

“Mommy!” Mike and Mika exclaimed simultaneously.

“We met Daddy.” Mike panted in between his words.
