Chapter 173 : WE CAN TRY AGAIN!

His heart was lodged carelessly in his throat, pounding loudly, yet making breathing impossible.

Thane was scared.

The sun had finally risen, but not before his warriors had taken their different positions, hidden and ready to attack. The patrol guards at the gate had recognized him immediately, but what they had called him, had broken his heart.

“Coward!” The bravest one had pulled out his sword and pointed it at his neck. “Things got hard, and you ran away.” The guard sounded genuinely pained, like Thane's action of "running away" had cost him a lot.

The thought made his heart squeeze even more.

“I didn't run away.” He had said, voice calm despite his raging insides.

He was alone, unarmed in order to appear believable. If the guard decided to attack him, there were slim chances that he'd win. Hence, he had to stay calm.

“Liar! That's what you did. Do you have any idea the many villagers that looked up to you? And how you failed them?”
