LOGIN" I Alpha, Kieran of Nightbane, take this female as Luna—to keep, to hold, and to cage." The priest pressed a cold blade to my forehead. "By the law of our pack, I name you Luna." Kieran's voice echoed through the walls while a thousand eyes stared down at me. "Luna in name only. No bed, no table! Take her to the west wing, chain her to the wall, and give her no food or water until she learns some respect!" My pack was burned down by Alpha Kieran. He came unexpected, butchered my father, and took me captive. Now, I am a puppet queen on a chain, He thinks he has broken me, but he has no idea what I am willing to do to survive

Lyra's POV
I lifted the glass bottle to my lips, looking forward to a cold drink after a long day.
A piercing scream shattered the quiet of the palace. It came from my room.
The bottle slipped from my hand, crashing against the stone floor that I didn't even feel the glass shards cutting into my bare feet as I burst into a dead sprint down the corridor.
"Eli? Eliora!"
I shoved the door open, my hand freezing on the handle.
She was lying in a her own pool of blood. Eyes wide, staring blankly at the ceiling. The beautiful braids we had done together just hours ago were stained completely red.
"No, no, no! Eliora, wake up! Open your eyes!"
I collapsed beside her, leaning all my weight into her chest.
"Hey, hey, stay with me," I pleaded, my voice cracking.
Blood was pumping fast from a jagged wound across her chest. I pressed both hands down hard right over the source, desperately trying to hold the life inside her. My hands shook so violently I could barely maintain the pressure. Beneath my palms, her breathing was short, shallow, and uneven.
She looked up at me, her eyes wide and unfocused, before her gaze drifted past me. Her lips parted, trying to form a word, but only a desperate puff of air came out.
I pressed down harder, crying out, "Come on, please! Stay with me!"
And then, her breathing changed. It slowed. Her chest stopped fighting against my hands.
Her head turned slowly to the other side, as if she were simply too tired to hold it up anymore. Her eyes remained open, but the light behind them vanished.
My hands were still buried in her chest, but there was nothing left to save.
Suddenly, a massive explosion shook the palace. Through the window, I watched in horror as a nearby tower collapsed in a cloud of dust. Distant war horns sounded, a deafening blare that echoed through the night.
Outside, servants ran screaming, desperately calling out the names of their loved ones. I forced myself to my feet, my legs trembling so badly, they felt like they would betray me.
Leaving the room, my bare feet slapped against the cold hallway stone as I ran straight to my parents' quarters. I burst inside, finding my mother, my father, and my younger brother, Caleb.
"Wake up!" I cried, grabbing my mother's shoulders and shaking her frantically. "Mama, please, we have to go!"
Before she could answer, another explosion ripped through the adjoining wall. The storage room next door had been set ablaze. Violent orange light flickered under the doorway, and thick, choking smoke began to pour into the room.
"They are here," Papa whispered, his face turning deathly pale. "Looks like they came to wipe us out."
Shadows of heavy boots blocked the light under the door as the invaders began to throw their weight against it.
BOOM! BOOM!
The heavy oak door began to splinter.
"You need to leave. Now," Papa muttered. His knuckles turned white as he dragged his heavy iron war axe from underneath the bed.
"To where exactly? We cannot leave without you, honey!" Mama cried, grabbing his arm, her tears tracking through the soot on her face.
"Yes, Papa," I added, my voice breaking as I pulled Caleb close to my side. "We fight together."
Another massive blow struck the door. It wouldn't hold for more than a few seconds. Papa looked at Mama, then at Caleb and me, and his expression crumbled into pure agony.
"Please leave and take Caleb with you. I will buy you time. I promise."
Papa charged toward the splintering door just as we scrambled toward the back window. I took two of mama gowns, tied it to the other side of the window for easy jump. I pushed Caleb out first, then Mama, before throwing myself out into the dark courtyard below.
But we didn't make it past the courtyard wall.
We didn't know the palace was completely surrounded. Rough, armored hands clamped onto my hair, yanking me backward onto the stone before my feet could even find traction. Warriors threw Mama and Caleb down beside me, forcing us onto our knees.
A massive shadow loomed over us. It was Alpha Kieran of Nightbane. He was larger than any werewolf I had ever seen, with shoulders as broad as a war axe and predatory gold eyes that swept over the corpses of our pack without a single blink.
All around us, the courtyard was a graveyard. Servants. Pups. Warriors. Most of our pack's buildings were engulfed in roaring flames, and the intense heat licked cruelly at my face.
Two guards dragged Papa out of the shattered door, tossing him into the dirt right in front of Kieran.
"Good to see you, Haakon," Kieran whispered, barely louder than the fire.
He drew a massive, gleaming broad sword from his hip.
Papa looked up, his gaze locking onto mine. His lips moved, forming a final silent phrase" Don't look, baby."
The sword went down his throat.
Chapter Eleven: The Elders Spite—(I)Lyra’s POV“She told me to tell you that no matter what dress you wear, a stray dog will always look like a stray dog.” Her voice did not shake. She dropped those final words like hot coals into the quiet of the room.I pressed my palm flat against the cold stone of the center table. I forced the heat down deep into my chest where it could burn out of sight. I would not let them see me break, I thought.“I’m sure you will win, Luna. I believe in you.”After eating, she helped clear the dishes and the remaining leftovers, leaving the room quiet so I could sleep.Left alone in my bedroom, I began to feel restless. The silence of the walls offered no comfort. I imagined how Mara’s face was going to look tomorrow. The anxiety coiled tightly in my stomach, spinning endless threads of doubt. What if I don’t answer the questions correctly? What if something goes wrong?I lay down in my bed and tossed and turned, trying to sleep, but I couldn't stop seeing
Chapter Ten: The Rules of a QueenHer hands felt ice-cold against my skin as she helped me out of my sweat-damp nightdress."The purpose of this is to teach you how, where, and what a Luna does," Nira recited quickly, sounding like she had stayed up all night memorizing the words. "And the pack elders will test you in three days to see if you really fit the role. If you fail their test, they can reject you completely. If they reject you..." She didn't finish the sentence."Who are the elders?" I asked, my voice still hoarse from sleep."They are the Alpha's extended family," she replied, carefully lacing up the back of the grey dress she had chosen for me. It was a plain dress with long sleeves and a high collar that scratched uncomfortably against my throat. "His uncles. His great-aunts. His father's cousins. They run the Nightbane pack with strict blood law. And they hate outsiders more than anyone. Especially anyone from Blood Moon."By mid-morning, the lesson was in full swing. Th
Chapter Nine: Ghosts at Dawn"Sister, please. Let's go home. I miss Papa, Mama, and you."It was Caleb's voice. His words were small, breathless, and tumbling out too fast, like he was trying to outrun his own thoughts before they forced him to cry. That was exactly how he talked when he was terrified but trying his best to be brave for me."Let's go. Let's run away from here. These people are monsters," he pleaded, his little chest heaving up and down. His voice was thin and shaking, the exact way it always got when he tried not to show weakness in front of Papa. It had a heavy crack right down the middle."Yes, my daughter. Please, let's go. Blood Moon needs their Princess."Mama. Her warm, soft hands were suddenly on my face. She smelled like crushed rosemary and fresh bread from the morning kitchen. Her thumbs gently wiped my tears away just like she used to do when I fell from the tall training posts as a child."My Lady, how are you? I hope you eat well. Don't worry about me. I'
Chapter Eight: The Table of EnemiesMy new room was not bad at all. It featured a large bed piled high with thick white furs and a real stone fireplace that threw orange, dancing light across the walls. There was even a glass window that looked out over the training grounds below, where shirtless Nightbane warriors were busy sparring with heavy wooden blades.Beside the bed stood a large wooden closet. But when I pushed the heavy doors open, I found absolutely nothing inside. No extra dresses, no leather armor, and no weapons. I was completely at their mercy.Looking out the window, a heavy wave of memory hit me. I remembered the afternoon of the attack, right before everything went wrong. I had peeped through my bedroom window back home and noticed something unusual moving in the tree line. But I hadn't raised the alarm. I had thought it was just a false alarm.Had I spoken up, I thought bitterly, maybe our soldiers would have been on high alert. Maybe my father would still be alive.
