Chapter 2

Penulis: Roaring River
Afterward, Samuel turned his attention back to Summer and began to act openly affectionate toward her.

If this had happened in the past, I would've gotten incredibly jealous and demanded that he choose between us. But now, I simply sat in my seat in silence. Instead of responding, I rested my chin on the palm of my hand and looked out of the window.

For some reason, Samuel's expression darkened slightly when he noticed my lack of reaction.

Soon, we arrived at our destination.

Samuel opened the car door and helped Summer out of the vehicle like a gentleman. I walked behind the group and entered the hotel last.

In the lobby, Liam Sutton, the eldest son of the Sutton family, was sitting on the sofa, watching a show. In contrast to his sharp, capable demeanor, he looked refined and handsome, and his personality was cold and aloof.

Samuel had complained about Liam on multiple occasions. He claimed that he couldn't stand Liam's pretentious attitude. But I knew it was simply because the latter overshadowed him, and it bruised his pride and ego.

Pressing his lips together, Samuel greeted Liam reluctantly.

"Hello, Liam."

Liam nodded in response before his gaze fell on me.

There were only five key cards. Samuel took one from the hotel manager and turned to look at me.

"You'll share a room with my brother tonight. Don't worry—he has high standards. He wouldn't be interested in you. Once we settle in, get a few condoms from the receptionist and send them over to my room."

Feeling amused, the crowd eagerly watched the conversation unfold.

Summer blushed and buried her face in Samuel's chest. "There are people here, Sam…"

Samuel didn't seem to care. Glancing at me deliberately, he replied, "It's fine. She's aware of what's going on. Besides, she knows that she won't be my only partner. Did you hear what I said, Catherine?"

In the past, I was almost always at Samuel's beck and call. Even when I had a fever, I rushed to his company to deliver a blanket to him as soon as he called me.

It was pouring that afternoon. After I arrived at his office, soaked and disheveled, he gently draped the blanket over a sleeping Summer without sparing me a single glance.

In hindsight, perhaps my unconditional love for him caused him to take my devotion for granted. I couldn't believe that he felt comfortable enough to give me such an obnoxious instruction, but I wasn't going to let him have his way anymore.

Looking him in the eye, I responded, "I heard you, but all your limbs are working just fine. If you want something, you should go get it yourself."

"I know you're jealous, Kate, but Samuel likes me," Summer said in a sweet, insincere tone. "There's nothing wrong with liking someone. You're being too harsh on him."

"You'd better stop talking, or I might start asking you to pay me back," I declared coldly.

Summer was an underprivileged student I supported financially. She came from a poor background. Without my help, she would've been forced into a marriage before she could even enter college.

Despite her background, she still dared to get involved with my husband and send me videos to gloat about it.

These events happened in my previous life. But even now, the memory of her betrayal still stung just as sharply.

Summer immediately teared up. She bit her lip and ran out of the room.

"Catherine Lowe!" Samuel barked at me. "How dare you pick on Summer?"

"Do you think you can act so arrogantly just because you're about to marry me? I hate that jealous expression of yours. Apologize to Summer right now!" he demanded.

When I didn't move, he raised his hand and tried to strike me. But before he could touch me, someone abruptly grabbed his wrist.

Liam positioned himself in front of me to shield me from harm. I couldn't help but glance at him, but I wasn't able to see his face.

Samuel's expression instantly hardened even further. He broke free from Liam's hold and shot me a vicious glare.

"I'll deal with you next time."

With that, he hastily stormed off to look for Summer.

Upon seeing this, the rest of the group quickly grabbed their key cards and left in a hurry.

At that moment, Liam picked up the last key card before making his way toward me. Staring at me with an emotionless expression, he said, "Let's go, Ms. Lowe."

I hummed in response and followed him to our room.

Even if Samuel hadn't said anything, Liam and I were supposed to share a room anyway.

In my past life, I never really interacted with Liam.

Once, when I was hospitalized with a fever, Samuel was too busy with work to care about me. To my surprise, Liam came to visit me with some gifts.

Before he'd left my hospital room, he'd said something vague.

"I hope you come to your senses soon."

When the door to our hotel room closed behind us, I turned to study Liam's face. He looked just as cold and distant as he had in my previous life.

After the wedding, Liam threw himself into his work and planned a month-long honeymoon for us. I followed him around the world, taking in all the local sights and cultures as we went. I was finally able to experience everything I had been deprived of in my previous life. From what Liam had told me, Thomas felt incredibly embarrassed by what Samuel did at the wedding. After disciplining him at home, he sent him abroad so he could get him out of his sight.I raised a brow. "Thomas raised him like a son for over a decade. No matter what he did, it seems unlike him to send Samuel overseas to suffer."Liam flashed me a knowing smile. "My father may not be willing to do it, but I am."…On the day before we returned from our honeymoon, Liam brought me to a remote village abroad. He steadied me as I stood at the edge of a coal mine. Looking down, I spotted a group of laborers working below. Among them, I caught sight of a familiar figure. My eyes widened in shock, and I rubbed my ey

I felt incredibly emotional. After everything that I had gone through, I was now holding the red roses I'd never received in my previous life.Liam took my hand and carefully pulled out a single rose from the bouquet. A ring was tied to the flower. My mouth fell open in surprise. Lifting the ring, Liam lowered his gaze and said solemnly, "When you chose me to be your fiance, I felt like a lucky man. In truth, even without the marriage arrangement between our families, the only person I've ever wanted to marry was you."He gently lifted my hand and slid the ring into my middle finger."I love you, Catherine Lowe."The diamond shone brilliantly on my hand.I instantly teared up. I was in love with the wrong person in my last life. In that case, I was determined to hold onto my happily-ever-after. I tightened my grip on the bouquet and threw myself into Liam's arms.My sudden embrace caught Liam by surprise. For a brief moment, he seemed unsure of what to do. But eventually, h

I let out a small scoff. "You flatter me. This is nothing compared to what you did in our previous life."The security guards escorted Samuel to the main entrance, but he refused to move his car. "My car will remain here until you call off your engagement to Liam," he declared stubbornly. As I watched him act like a shameless thug, I instinctively clenched my fists.I could roughly understand what Samuel was thinking. He was, after all, just the Sutton family's adopted son. Once Liam officially took over the family business, he would lose whatever authority he currently had. Hence, he desperately needed to secure a powerful backing through a marriage alliance. The backing in question was none other than me.When I paused, Samuel assumed that I was having second thoughts. A smug smile appeared on his face as he deliberately raised his voice."Call off your engagement to Liam, Catherine. Marry me instead," he said.In the next moment, however, the luxury cars behind him were vi

Samuel's eyes grew murderous, and his grip gradually began to tighten. I tried to break free from his hold, but my efforts were to no avail."I forbid you from marrying Liam, Catherine!" he demanded. Before he could say anything else, he was shoved aside, and a towering figure stepped in front of me. "This is the second time you've laid your hands on my fiancee, Samuel."Liam rolled up his sleeves as he slowly closed the distance between them. Samuel instinctively began to back away from him. "Our parents might not have had the time to discipline you, Samuel, but I have all the time in the world."Clenching his jaw, Samuel spat, "Don't get too cocky, Liam. Everyone in our circle witnessed how Catherine used to chase after me. You're nothing but a replacement—"Before he could finish, Liam punched him squarely in the face."Have you lost your mind, Liam?" Samuel yelled, clutching his cheek.Liam straightened his sleeves and replied, "I don't have time to waste on you. Don't

Samuel looked puzzled. "What do you mean? Whose wedding is it?" he asked.Thomas shot Samuel a cold glance before turning to me with a warm smile. "Don't listen to this brat, Kate. This is you and Liam's wedding. The two of you should have the final say."At that moment, Samuel finally realized what was going on. In a trembling voice, he asked, "Liam and Catherine are getting married? How is that possible? I'm the one who's engaged to Catherine!"Mom clicked her tongue impatiently. "What are you talking about? Your engagement with Kate had been called off ages ago."Samuel stared at me in disbelief. Avoiding his gaze, I turned to my mother and said regretfully, "I never got the chance to wear the wedding dress you designed for me, Mom. Before I could try it on, someone cut it up and turned it into clothes for a dog.""What?" Mom snapped. "Who had the nerve to do something like that?"Subsequently, I pointed at Samuel and Summer, and everyone's gazes landed on them.Thomas

I narrowed my eyes. The fabric of the dog's outfit looked oddly familiar."Where did you get his clothes from?" I asked."I found a wedding dress at Samuel's house," Summer replied smugly. "I thought the fabric looked pretty, so I used it to make clothes for my dog."I tightened my grip on my wine glass. That wedding dress had been specially designed for me by my mother. In my previous life, Summer had "accidentally" ruined my wedding dress on the day of my wedding. Left with no choice, I had to settle for a replacement dress that the bridal boutique sent over at the last minute. The dress didn't fit properly, and I could never quite let that incident go.After I was reborn, I changed my engagement plans as I had intended, but my wedding dress was still ruined. To make matters worse, someone had turned it into clothes for a dog.I turned to Samuel and demanded, "My wedding dress was supposed to be kept at your parents' place. Why did you take it and give it to Summer?"Samuel l
