Randall’s POV

“They’re ready,” Juan announced as soon as he got into my room. “All the Elders are seated at the throne room awaiting your arrival.”

“Then I shall meet them at once.”

I rose from my chair and headed off to the throne room with Juan leading the way. Just like he said, all the Elders were seated on the sofas on both sides of the throne room. Susan was there too. She stood right behind the Beta's seat on my right hand.

Her lips curled into a smile as our eyes met but I ignored her

Randall’s POVI rode at the head of the convoy, my wolf pacing relentlessly beneath my skin as we crossed into the Northern borders on our way to the White Moon pack. The closer we got, the more frantic my wolf grew. Clearly, it felt like something was wrong but I couldn't say exactly what it was except that it was a strange feeling. We had sent a formal herald days in advance to announce our arrival for the peace talks but no word was sent back to us. There was no acceptance, no denial, no welcome… only an eerie stillness from the forest and seemingly watching eyes which we could not see. Although we were a few metres away from the White Moon pack, I felt like we were being watched. It was as if Max had stationed some of their men amongst the tall trees to watch us and figure out just how many troops we came to the pack with. But when we finally reached the pack, Baron, the Alpha of the Carlin pack, seemed entirely unfazed by the lack of hospitality shown to us. He rode beside

Lyra’s POVChained to the damp wall, my wrists were raw and my body was a map of blooming purple bruises and jagged cuts. The air smelled of iron and mildew, but the most suffocating part was the presence of guards hovering over me like a pack of wolves. I thought I escaped this life as soon as I left the Nightshade pack. I thought I was never going to smell the insides of a dungeon again. But here I was, in a much worse one, having to deal with the lustful eyes of the guards who had no fear that I was to be wed to their alpha. They circled me with hungry eyes, and low, taunting whispers. One of the guards, emboldened by Winston's orders, drew closer to me, his hand reaching out to stroke my matted hair.“You don't have to suffer like this. A beautiful woman like you deserves to be treated with love and care,” he said, with a sick grin on his face. “If you could just listen to us for once and come with us, we could ensure that no one ever hurts you again. We'll treat you like a que

Lyra’s POV“I'm not going to marry you, Winston. I've already made that clear to you and I'm not changing my mind about that,” I defiantly remarked as he shot me a cold stare. His face contorted with rage as he stood behind the bars. He balled his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Then he began to pace around the narrow space, muttering words that only he could hear. “I did everything for you,” he finally said, loud enough for me to hear. “I gave you the safety of my borders. I protected you. Heck, I protected your identity just like you asked me to.”He pointed a finger at my face, blowing hot air from his nostrils. “I did it all for you, no questions asked. I was even willing to raise another man's child as my own heir, regardless of how many children I thought we'd end up having. All I wanted was to make you happy and this is how you repay me?”“Is this…” I ran my eyes down my features, then to my surroundings before looking back at him, “... what being happy look

Randall’s POV“The Alpha of the Caelin pack has agreed to have peace talks with the White Moon pack as opposed to fighting them,” I announced to the Elders who sat around my throne room. “We both agreed that it's the best path for both packs, especially now that Max has returned to his pack,” I continued. “We feel like having lost so much and seeing two of the most powerful Alphas at his gates, he will be forced to accept a peace treaty as opposed to yet another war that he's sure to lose.”“We will also be able to reopen our trades with them and with all the packs that had closed their doors to us because of the conflict. This is a very good opportunity for us.”To my surprise, the Elders nodded their heads in unison, consenting to the things I said. I thought they'd object to it and ask for a war instead but none of them suggested that. “We have all grown weary of the constant skirmishes and the drain on the pack's resources since all of these began,” Gregor said. “The prospect

Lyra’s POV“My child!! Don't hurt my child!” I yelled, as the guards seized my arms. “She's innocent. She had nothing to do with this and doesn't need to be punished.”Tears streamed down my face as I looked pleadingly towards Winston, hoping that he'd listen to me. “Please, bring her to me. Let me have her. My child needs me.”“Don't worry about your child. I will take care of her as my heir,” he said, his countenance softening for a brief moment before his face hardened again. “But as for you, Lyra, I will never forgive you for doing this to me a second time. Never!”Before I could plead or explain, the guards dragged me out of the room and led me straight to the dungeons without breaking a stride. They pushed me into the cell and I fell hard, the rough edges of the floor grazing my skin. The iron gate of the dungeon slammed shut, leaving me in the damp, chilling darkness. The lone window at the far right of the cell only led to yet another room so it only let in some air but lig

Lyra’s POVSprinting towards the war room, where a guard told me I was going to find Winston, I burst through the heavy double doors, interrupting a meeting between Winston and his top commanders. As soon as I saw those men, I paused, standing by the door to let them finish. But the room fell silent, Winston and the men turning their attention to me instead. As always, his eyes softened the moment they landed on me. A smile crept up on his face, tugging at his lips as he gestured for me to approach him, ignoring all the commanders in the room. “Alpha, we need to…”“Later. You may all leave now.” He dismissed them without a second thought, dropping the affairs of the pack to give me his undivided attention. “What about this?” Another warrior said, showing him a scroll in his right hand. “That, too,” he replied. “But you may take it to Juan first. He should read it and keep it in my office. I'll review that later and then I'll let you know what to do. But for now, I must be left al
