Chapter 3

Autor: Welcome Wealth
Charlotte's emotions flared as she concluded, "Listen up, Robert! You were nothing more than a lapdog I kept at my side. You don't have the standing to negotiate anything!"

I maintained my composure. After all, I still held a flicker of affection for Charlotte, which was why I had catered to her every whim back then.

"You'd better listen up as well, Charlotte. You're still my partner for now, regardless of whatever arrangement you've made with Steven. The deal in Barovia was the result of a single phone call I made—"

"Enough!" Charlotte cut me off, her eyes brimming with contempt. "How could you have closed the deal, Robert? I always thought you were trustworthy, but now you're even lying through your teeth!

"Mr. Zimmerman was the one who returned with the deal signed, sealed, and delivered. What have you contributed to this company besides warming my bed, Robert?"

I found myself unable to communicate with her; I had to pause for several deep breaths just to steady myself. "I already told you that the deal in Barovia was finalized through my efforts, but since you refuse to believe me, there is nothing more I can do."

Charlotte simply ignored my attempts to clarify the situation. "You should just take the money and leave at once if you have any dignity left, Robert. Beg all you want, but there is zero chance I will be with a kept man like you."

She smugly cocked her eyebrow after saying that, her eyes dripping with disdain.

I found the spectacle highly entertaining. I had always maintained a low profile and avoided revealing my true identity, yet here she was calling me a kept man.

Charlotte had summoned the security guards to escort me out of the premises before I could even say another word. "Take the money and leave while the option is still on the table, Robert. You'll receive nothing at all if I change my mind."

I decided further argument was pointless after seeing Charlotte's resolute stance. "I'll leave, but before that, I have one last thing to say."

I glared at her, declaring, "I'll make sure that none of you will be able to close a deal in Barovia once I walk out of this company!"

I had just turned to make my exit when Charlotte's voice rang out sharply from behind. "Hold it right there, Robert!"

I stopped and turned back, fixing her with a chilling gaze. "What's the matter? Have you finally regretted your decision, Ms. Ward?"

Charlotte raised an eyebrow, her expression dripping with disdain. "Why would I regret it, Robert? Take a good look at yourself! What on earth makes you think you're worth regretting?"

Then, right in front of everyone, she roughly yanked off the work jacket I had just grabbed downstairs for warmth, leaving my thin undershirt visible. "You may leave, but the jacket stays."

I smiled faintly as I narrowed my eyes. "I'm genuinely curious, Charlotte. Why do you put so much trust in Steven? I mean, as far as I know, he didn't even meet the client in Barovia. So how could he have closed the deal?"

I had just said that when murmurs suddenly broke out all around me.

"Is he for real or just clueless? I mean, the client has already wired the payment into the company account, yet he's still running his mouth here."

"I know, right? It's clear that the kept man is just jealous of Mr. Zimmerman's success, so now he's trying to discredit him."

"How pathetic! He's just a kept man, yet he dared to challenge a key contributor to the company's success!"

I suddenly understood the whole situation. I had initially called the client and casually mentioned the deal, not realizing that the client would immediately wire the funds before even signing the contract.

Only then did I realize that I actually held so much influence. Ironically, my influence had left me no way to defend myself.

Charlotte took my silence as fear. Her face twisted in disgust, "That's enough, Robert. You should know that the company isn't your stage for empty talk. Hurry up and get lost."

I could no longer endure the insults; my patience had reached its limit. I took out my phone just as Charlotte turned to return to her office.

"You shouldn't dismiss me in such a rush, Charlotte. You don't believe me, right? You'll know the truth once I make this call."

I immediately called the number in front of everyone. "Hey, Calvin. It's Robert."

Calvin Baker, on the other end, sounded surprised. "What's the matter, Rob? Didn't you say you were preoccupied with your partner? Why did you suddenly call me?"

I shot Charlotte a knowing glance and sighed. "I just got played. Don't even get me started, Calvin."

Natalie never once pried into my family background. She valued my insights, agreed with my fundamental principles, and her love was directed entirely at my authentic self.I was driving her back to her place that evening. I glanced at her profile—so calm, so serene—and I knew it was time for me to tell the truth. "I have something I need to tell you, Natalie. I—"Natalie cut me off. Her smile was warm, her eyes holding a gentle, knowing twinkle. "You were going to tell me you're Robert Foster from the well-known Foster family, right? I figured that out a long time ago, Robert."I was stunned.Natalie continued with a smile, "I thought you looked familiar the first time we met, and I later realized that I had seen your photos in a financial magazine. "But I thought that it wasn't that important, as what truly matters is the immense comfort and security I find in your presence. I feel for you, Robert, not your status."I let out a genuine, relieved laugh, feeling the final shred

I turned, my eyes locking onto Charlotte with searing intensity. "You lacked the capacity for even the simplest concepts of respect and genuine honesty, Charlotte."Charlotte was deathly pale, swaying unsteadily on her feet. She finally grasped that she had not only cast aside a man who adored and obeyed her every command but had personally rejected the powerful patronage that could have launched the Ward family into the upper echelons of global wealth."I've made a mistake, Robert! I swear I know I'm in the wrong now!" Charlotte lunged forward, desperately reaching for my arm. But before she could make contact, she was swiftly restrained by Calvin's bodyguards. "I was completely out of my mind back then! Steven manipulated me! I swear I truly love you, and the feelings I had for you this past month were genuine!"I felt as if I had heard the joke of the century. "You say you love me, huh? Is love demanding intimacy from an exhausted man? Is love speaking sweetly while calculating

Everyone would make mistakes, and no one was perfect. I only hoped that this incident would serve as a powerful enough deterrent to force those newcomers to clean up their act.Calvin leaned close to my ear and whispered, "That loser was a total waste of time, Rob. Where's that woman on the phone from earlier? Who is the one who broke up with you and humiliated you publicly? She actually dared to insult me as well!"I shot Charlotte a sidelong glance and jerked my chin in her direction. "That woman who insulted us earlier is right over there—Charlotte Ward, CEO of Ward Group."Calvin immediately slapped Charlotte before I could even get another word in. "I don't usually lay a hand on women, but I'll make an exception since insulting Rob is a line you don't get to cross!"That slap landed with a clear, resounding crack. The sound bounced off the walls of the office.I watched Calvin shake the sting from his hand, his eyes now gleaming maliciously.Calvin let out a contemptuous lau

Calvin stuck out his chest with pride. "Of course! I'll definitely give it my all since you trusted me with this, Rob! You know, I would've already made a move if you hadn't held me back."A thought struck him. He grabbed my arm and asked, "Where's that woman who insulted us earlier, Rob? I still need to teach her a lesson!"That short exchange shocked not only Charlotte but also the surrounding employees. Steven, who was the closest to us, stared at me in disbelief, his mouth gaping. "Y-You're actually acquainted with Mr. Baker, Robert!"I nodded, smiling. "That's right. I forgot to mention that I grew up in Barovia. The man you're reverently addressing as Mr. Baker is just like a brother to me."In that instant, every Ward Group employee suddenly broke out in a cold sweat. They couldn't believe what they were hearing.Steven knelt on the floor. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Foster! I messed up. I failed to see who you were! I'm begging you; please let me off the hook! "If I'd known you w

Steven snorted, "What makes you think you'll win the bet, Robert? Do you honestly believe Mr. Baker will take orders from you?"I gave him a faint smile. "You've tried my patience one too many times, Steven. Do you honestly think I'm bluffing? You'll soon see who's the winner and who's the loser!"Steven, far from backing down, became even more aggressive. "Did I give you permission to talk to me like that, you useless bastard? How dare a worthless nobody like you challenge me! You're guaranteed to lose today, Robert!"It wasn't long before luxury cars began pulling up outside the company building. All the cars had highly exclusive, rare license plates, signaling ownership worth tens of millions of dollars. The employees around me scrambled to take pictures. It was their first time seeing such a spectacle.Even Charlotte, the CEO of Ward Group, humbled herself. She hurried to the entrance to greet the visitor personally, highlighting how important the contract is to Ward Group.I

Steven shot me a smug look after ending the call. "Did you hear that, Robert? Let's see you try to talk your way out of this."I smirked, keeping my expression calm. "Do you really think he came all the way here just to sign the contract, Steven?"Steven burst into laughter, treating my comment as the height of comedy. "Isn't that obvious? Did you really think Mr. Baker travelled all the way to Caldoria to meet up with you instead of signing the contract, Robert?"I let out a short laugh. "You got that right! He did, in fact, come here for me."I then shifted my tone, my gaze turning sharp while saying, "Mr. Baker is also here to settle a grudge. You see, before you showed up, Charlotte actually hung up on him after insulting him. I've heard that Mr. Baker is quite vindictive, Steven."Charlotte interjected before Steven could speak. "Drop the act, Robert! I overlooked you using an actor to trick me earlier, but now the real Mr. Baker is coming! If he finds out you hired someone t
