Chapter 2:Echoes Of The Past

Ava hadn’t slept.

She spent the night pacing, her thoughts tangled like the storm outside. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Dominic’s face—the way his gaze lingered on Liam, the unspoken question in his eyes.

She told herself it was just a coincidence. A freak encounter. He’d seen her and her son, asked a question, and now it was over.

But her gut told her otherwise.

Dominic wasn’t the kind of man who let go of something once he latched on. That was how he built an empire. That was how he got into her heart once, only to walk away without ever knowing what he left behind.

Now, she was older. Wiser. A mother.

And she’d do whatever it took to protect Liam from that world—and from him.

Ava stood at the mirror, adjusting her hair into a bun, trying to look composed. Liam was dressed and ready for school, sitting at the kitchen table eating cereal like it was any other morning.

But she couldn’t shake the feeling that today wouldn’t be ordinary.

As if summoned by her fear, her phone buzzed.

Unknown Number.

Her stomach flipped.

She let it ring out. Then again. And again.

Finally, a text.

“We need to talk. – D.”

She stared at it, heart pounding. No hello. No apology. Just Dominic—direct, demanding, relentless. The same as always.

She typed a reply. Then deleted it. Then typed again.

“There’s nothing to talk about.”

She hit send and put the phone face-down on the table.

Later that day…

The city buzzed like it always did—cars honking, people moving too fast to notice anyone else. Ava clutched Liam’s hand as they walked up the school steps.

He paused and looked up at her. “Mommy, why did that man at the café look at me funny?”

She froze.

“What do you mean, sweetheart?”

“The man in the suit. He looked like he knew me. But I don’t know him.”

Her heart thudded. “Sometimes adults are just curious, that’s all,” she said carefully. “But if anyone ever makes you uncomfortable, you tell Mommy right away. Okay?”

Liam nodded. “Okay.”

She kissed his forehead and watched him run off toward his classroom, heart squeezing with guilt.

She hated lying to him. But telling the truth—telling him who Dominic really was—felt even worse.

Ava headed to work after dropping Liam off. It wasn’t glamorous—she worked part-time at a small independent bookstore downtown—but it gave her flexible hours and just enough money to keep things afloat.

She was shelving new arrivals when the door chimed.

Her chest tightened.

She knew that walk. That silhouette. That presence.

Dominic.

She didn’t even turn around. “You shouldn’t be here.”

“I didn’t know where else to find you,” he said calmly, hands in the pockets of his tailored coat.

She faced him slowly. “You didn’t try very hard five years ago.”

Something flickered in his expression—regret? Confusion? It was hard to tell.

“You disappeared,” he said. “No calls, no message. Nothing.”

“I had my reasons.”

He stepped closer, voice low. “That boy… Liam. He’s mine, isn’t he?”

Her breath hitched.

“You don’t get to ask that,” she said, barely above a whisper.

“I’m not blind, Ava. He looks exactly like I did at that age. You think I wouldn’t notice?”

Her hands curled into fists. “Even if he is, it changes nothing. I’ve raised him alone. He’s safe. He’s happy.”

“I never would’ve walked away if I’d known—”

“But you did walk away!” she snapped, startling a customer across the room. “You walked away from me, from us, and never looked back.”

Dominic exhaled, raking a hand through his hair. “You don’t know what I went through after that scandal. I was pulled into board fights, press disasters, threats from shareholders. I wanted to call you. But every time I thought of dragging you into my mess—”

“You didn’t even try,” she cut in.

Silence fell between them. A heavy silence that screamed of years lost, words unsaid.

He spoke again, softer. “I didn’t come here to fight. I just want to know him.”

Ava’s voice trembled. “You can’t just appear out of nowhere and expect to be part of his life. He’s not a name in a folder. He’s a child. He has a routine, a heart, a soul. He’s not some… PR redemption arc.”

“I never said he was,” Dominic said, hurt flashing in his eyes.

She stepped back, struggling to breathe evenly. “He doesn’t even know you exist.”

“And whose fault is that?”

The words hit like a slap.

She looked away, swallowing the lump in her throat. “Don’t make this harder than it already is. Please.”

Dominic nodded, but something in his eyes told her he wasn’t going to let this go.

“I’ll be in town for a while,” he said. “I’m not here to ruin anything. But I’m not walking away again.”

With that, he turned and walked out, leaving Ava gripping the edge of the bookshelf like it could hold her together.

That night, as she watched Liam sleep, Ava’s thoughts spiraled.

Could she really keep Dominic out of their lives forever?

Should she?

Liam deserved stability. But did he also deserve to know his father?

She wasn’t sure what scared her more—Dominic staying… or him leaving again.

And in the darkness of her quiet apartment, Ava realized the truth:

The past was no longer behind her.

It was standing on her doorstep, waiting to be let in.

  • Billionaire’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 54:Full Circle

The golden sun rose over the Sinclair estate, bathing the hills in a warm glow. A light breeze carried the scent of lilacs and rosemary across the estate gardens. Birds chirped overhead, fluttering from one blooming hedge to another as if they too were rejoicing in the peace that had finally settled upon the house. It had been two years since the chaos that once threatened to unravel everything. Two years since Ava discovered the true identity of Liam’s father. Two years since Delilah had walked into their lives like a storm, carrying pieces of a past none of them had expected. Two years since the world had tried to expose their family secrets, and yet they stood stronger than ever.Today was a day of celebration. A day of new beginnings. A day where full circles finally closed and fresh ones began.---Ava stood in the kitchen of the estate’s main house, dressed in a soft linen sundress, her hair braided down one shoulder. She was icing a tiered cake for Liam’s birthday while Emilia

  • Billionaire’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 53: Ghost of power

Dominic sat alone in his father’s study, the thick black ledger open before him. Every entry, every coded transaction, was another glimpse into the vast web of secrets Robert Sinclair had spun in his lifetime. Offshore accounts, shell corporations, hidden property deeds—and now, names. Names of people powerful enough to change the fate of a family with a single signature. And at the top of the page, in Robert’s unmistakable handwriting: Victor Hale — Do not trust. Dangerous. Ruthless. The name rang like a thunderclap in Dominic’s mind. Hale wasn’t just a ghost from his father’s past. He was alive, well-connected, and had a reputation for using legal loopholes and blackmail to dismantle his enemies. If he was the one who leaked Delilah's existence and stirred up the press, then he was far from done.---"Victor Hale?" Ava echoed, sitting beside Dominic as he explained what he’d found. Emilia slept in the baby carrier at her feet. "I remember that name. He sued your father when we were

The morning after Delilah uncovered the key, tension hung in the Sinclair household like a tightly drawn bow.Dominic spent the early hours making calls to his legal team and trusted security firm, arranging for a discreet investigation into the now-defunct Sinclair Financial. Ava, meanwhile, kept herself occupied baking with Liam and tending to Emilia, trying to project calm while her thoughts stormed beneath the surface.Delilah stayed mostly in her room, poring over the old letters and documents in the wooden box, hoping for clarity. But most of the pages were cryptic—coded messages, mentions of numbered accounts, and references to unfamiliar names. One phrase repeated more than once, scribbled in the margins of different pages:"Only the broken will find the door."Delilah couldn’t make sense of it. "What door? What does it mean?"---Later that day, Dominic gathered the family in the study. His expression was grim but focused."The firm Sinclair Financial closed a decade ago," he

Spring unfurled slowly around the Sinclair estate. Trees bloomed with pale blossoms, and birdsong filled the crisp morning air. Despite the serenity, a quiet tension simmered beneath the surface—a storm of a different kind. Ava noticed it first. Delilah had grown quieter over the past week. Though she still helped around the house and worked on marketing for the bakery, her smiles were more strained, her laughter delayed. At night, Ava sometimes heard the creak of floorboards as Delilah wandered the hallways alone. It all came to a head one Saturday morning. Dominic had taken Liam to a nearby lake for fishing, giving Ava and Delilah the house to themselves. Ava was in the kitchen kneading dough for brioche when she noticed Delilah sitting silently at the table, her hands folded tightly in her lap. "You okay?" Ava asked gently. Delilah hesitated, then nodded. "Just tired." But Ava could see the shadow in her eyes. "You haven’t been sleeping, have you?" Delilah looked away. "I ha

  • Billionaire’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 50:Tangled Histories and New Ties

It had been three days since Delilah arrived, and the Sinclair home had begun adjusting to her presence in small but telling ways. Her things were no longer in a soggy satchel but neatly folded in the guest bedroom. She joined meals, helped with household chores, and took Emilia for walks around the garden to give Ava time to rest. But even with her gentle demeanor and obvious gratitude, the tension lingered beneath the surface.Ava noticed it first in Dominic. The way his jaw tightened when Delilah entered a room unexpectedly, the guarded tone he took when she asked questions about their father or their family business. He wanted to believe in her, Ava knew, but belief didn’t come easy to someone who had been betrayed so deeply before. That morning, Ava found him alone in the home office, staring blankly at the fireplace, a mug of untouched coffee cooling on the desk."She said she studied architecture in Paris," he muttered as Ava entered. "That she graduated with honors. But there’

  • Billionaire’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 49:A Promise in the Storm

The storm rolled in just after dusk. Heavy clouds gathered over the Sinclair estate, blanketing the sky in charcoal as thunder rumbled in the distance. Ava stood by the window in the nursery, gently rocking Emilia in her arms, watching as the first fat raindrops splattered against the glass. The rhythm of the storm was oddly soothing, echoing the beat of her heart. Dominic appeared behind her, slipping his arms around her waist, his chin settling on her shoulder. "Still can't believe she's ours," he whispered, his voice reverent. Ava smiled, her gaze fixed on their daughter, whose tiny hands clutched at the edge of her mother’s blouse in a sleep-hazy grip. "She's everything," she murmured. "Everything we didn't know we needed." Dominic pressed a kiss to her cheek. "And you're everything I ever needed." They stood there for a while, swaying gently to the sound of wind and rain, wrapped in the cocoon of their little world. But peace never lingered too long in lives that had once be
