My eyes lingered on Alex who finally came out of the car with a pale expression as I pulled away from the kiss. My heart was pounding furiously that my chest hurt.

"Whoa, Louisa!" Ryan exclaimed, his eyes widening. "That was sweet."

I smiled faintly at him before taking my gaze back to Alex. I slightly enjoyed the look of discomfiture on his features.He had paled and at this point I didn't care anymore. Everything I did was intentional. I wanted Alex to see that, to back off. And I'm so glad he's seen us together. I loved it. The surge of triumph was almost maddening.

Alex finally walked inside the party with an inscrutable expression.

Well... who cares?
