KATHERINE'S POV

A movement behind me made me turn.

He stood in the doorway, shirt wrinkled, hair a mess. His eyes landed on mine like he’d been expecting me.

“I didn’t mean to wake you,” I said almost immediately, in a whisper.

“You didn’t.” His voice was rough from sleep. “I couldn’t sleep either.”

Of course he couldn’t.

He stepped inside and leaned on the other side of the counter, not reaching for me, just watching. Giving space. And I appreciated that more than I could say.

“What if we don’t find the cabin? What if it wasn't Victor?” I asked suddenly.

“We will find the cabin, Katherine, and when we do, we'll get the answers to all our questions."

“But what if we don’t?” My voice cracked. “What if we lose this trail too and we’re back at the beginning, with no answers, no closure, just shadows and threats?”

He walked around the counter slowly, cautiously. “Then we keep looking. We don’t stop.”

I laughed bitterly. “You make it sound so simple.”

“It’s not,” he admitted. “But neither

KATHERINE'S POVThe sunlight was the first thing to touch my face, at least, that was what I thought. I could feel something warm around my cheeks and the streaks of light dancing around my eyes.It took me some seconds before I finally opened my eyes and I almost screamed, startled by the sight before me.A dog!!?What the...?I blinked and wiped the wet saliva away from my face before turning to stare at it again. What on earth..?We didn't see any dogs in this building last night. How on earth did it suddenly appear and from where?A soft sound called my attention to the door and I turned my head, immediately struck with shock as I saw Franklin standing at the door with blood on his shirt."Franklin!!" I yelled , my heartbeat racing as fast as a motorcycle as I ran towards him."What's going on, baby? What happened? Where...? No, who brought you here?"He smiled and hugged me.I closed my eyes, taking in the sweet smell of vanilla and cedar wood but my nose caught something else.T

ALEXANDER’S POVThe room was quiet now. The tea between us had gone cold, but neither of us moved to touch it. The air still carried her scent—lavender and something uniquely her, and it stirred something inside me I thought I’d buried. She didn’t look away from me. Didn’t flinch. Didn’t try to hide. And that… that meant more than I could say.I saw the flicker of resolve in her eyes. She was tired. Haunted. But she was still standing. Still fighting. Katherine was always like that, fierce, even when the world did its damnedest to break her.And for the first time in a long while, I realized how small my own pain was compared to hers. She had carried the weight of everything, alone, for so long. And I let her, I stupidly misunderstood her.I leaned back slightly, letting my gaze fall on the mug in front of me. The porcelain was chipped along the rim. A small detail, but somehow fitting. We were both chipped in our own ways, rough around the edges, but still holding together.“I should

Chapter 67 — Why Haven’t You Walked Away Again?KATHERINE'S POVBeing in the same building with Alex wasn't what I planned at all, not even in the slightest. I never thought it would happen in years to come. But as I slightly pinched myself to know if it was a dream or not, I realized that it was real.Alex was two doors away from me!Even as I tried so hard not to think about it, I still couldn't help myself.I was just too out of it.Sleep never came easy anymore, well the reason was without question. How could I sleep when my life and that of my son was in danger? How could I sleep when someone as unstable as Victor was after my life and for what?I still couldn't bring myself to think about the reason why he would do something like that, especially since he never once had any bad encounter with me.But then again, the man who blackmailed me, and the one who shot the gun at the school were two different people. It could be that he was sent by someone else to threaten me.I tried to

ALEXANDER’S POVI didn’t know what burned more, the guilt crawling under my skin or the look in Katherine’s eyes when she told me not to be sorry. The silence in the car was louder than any shouting match we could’ve had. She sat rigid in the passenger seat, her hands in her lap, her shoulders tense, her jaw set like she was holding the rest of her world together with sheer willpower. And I could see it, how much effort that took. She didn’t cry. Not once. And that scared me more than anything else. The fact that she was almost emotionless. That was enough proof of how shattered she was.I slumped and sighed with satisfaction in my seat as Henry turned the key in the ignition, not because I was ready to leave yet, but because I needed the hum of the engine to fill the air, to make things feel a little less dead.To break the silence between us, to make the noise in my head reduce.“I didn’t know it was that bad,” I said eventually, the words scraping out like sandpaper. “If I had kno

  • Billionaire's Regret: It's Great to See You Again, Daddy!   Chapter 65 — You Threw Me Out Like You Were Expecting Me to Fall

KATHERINE'S POVThere’s a moment right after betrayal is spoken aloud when the world goes silent, like it’s holding its breath to see what you’ll do. That’s what it felt like as I stood there in that godforsaken house, in front of the man I once called my father, with my stepsister’s voice echoing in my ears. Disowned. Shame. Adultery. Heartache.Words I thought I would never have to hear again. Words that trigger me so badly.I didn’t move. I couldn’t.I never expected to be back here, heck , I never wanted to. I felt Alexander shift beside me. His confusion was palpable, like heat radiating off his skin. But I didn’t turn to look at him. I couldn't bear to see his eyes. Not now. Not after everything.Though a part of me wondered if he was genuinely confused about the disowned part or if he was just putting on a show. After that shoot out? It was hard for me to trust anyone, especially in the lions den.“I see you still like to run your mouth, Clara, tell me , how does it feel to
