After she fell asleep, I went back downstairs, dreading the interactions. When I went down earlier, Marcello wasn’t downstairs yet, but I was positive that I would probably find him there now, with his fiancée.

I really don’t know how they do it.

“Ah, you’re up?” Marcello greeted as he turned the page on his newspaper.

“Where are you coming from?” I asked as I rolled up my sleeves, and he shrugged.

“I have a present for you, out in the garden house,” he motioned with his head, and I crossed my arms over my chest.

“Really? What did I do to deserve it?” I asked as I pulled a chair out and joined him at the breakfast table.

“Nothing,” he smirked as he turned another page. “I just don’t like it when people mess with what is mine.”

He looked at me above the newspaper, a certain glint in his eyes, and I wondered what exactly he was talking about. Did he know that I had plans to get rid of him and destroy the empire he worked so hard for?

I had no use for it, after all. And I hated it,
