A lot to learn.

I woke up to find my husband gone. I was sure he had come back during the night but he was gone now.

I couldn’t believe I had gotten married yesterday. I wondered what my life was going to be like now. I had only thought about my dad and was extremely grateful that my dad was fine. There was more hope for him now. I would hope as much as I could that he would be fine. That he would wake up. I wouldn’t be alone anymore.

I looked around to observe the luxury of my hotel room. It was my first time being in a hotel. I could never have afforded anything so luxurious. The bed was soft and so comfy, I slept so easily last night. The air freshener released a brilliant scent in the air. The AC was active now but I remembered the night had not been cold. It was cold now.

After observing round I found out there was a heater as well as a conditioner. I couldn’t explain how the room was in the perfect temperature for me to sleep but it was awesome. I would drop a review on the hotel if I could. Their services were awesome.

But where was my husband? I had no idea of what to do with myself now.

I jumped up in alert as I heard a knock on the door, a wave of nervousness enveloped me for a moment as I thought it was Alexandro King, but when I opened the door, I found Chloe standing on the other side.

I sighed in relief.

“It might not be me another time. Always confirm before you open the door. You’re now Mrs. King.” She warned.

I only nodded as I reached out to help her, she was holding two bags, one in each hand.

“Don’t ever try to help your workers.” Then she sighed deeply. “You have a lot to learn, Mrs. King.”

“I thought you weren’t like other staff, you’re more important. At least I should be able to lend you a hand.” I defended.

“I’m the chief staff. I keep other staff under control, but I’m nothing beside you because you’re Mrs. King.” She explained.

I wanted to point out to her that she was managing me too which made me in the same category as all the staff beneath her but I knew she would only try to make me understand that I was Mrs. King. I kept my mouth shut instead.

“These are clothes for you to wear. I didn’t shop for much because I didn’t know the kind of clothes you’d like. These are for you to wear and choose what you’d rather wear. I apologize if these don’t suit your taste.” She said with so much seriousness. What was to be so serious about clothes?

“I can wear anything.” I said, opening the bag and bringing out the sealed designer inside the bag, “Woah! This is huge.” I said, laughing.

“You can’t wear anything. You’re Mrs. King.” Chloe said for the hundredth time. “Today, when we go shopping, you’ll look at all the clothes and styles that are of the highest worth and beauty, and then you will choose a certain design or style you like. As Mrs. King, you have to have a certain taste, if you show to be a woman of no choice, the outfit wouldn’t recognize you.” She explained.

I sighed, this was going to be a lot of work. There was nothing normal about being Mrs. King, Nothing normal about this marriage either. I didn’t know whether to be glad or not that my husband was missing this morning but the thought of last night, the fact that he had tried to touch me got me shivering. What if he came back? Would I let him touch me if he insisted? Then I remembered why he had left.

“Chloe? Did something happen last night?” I asked.

She gave me a weird look that made me feel she knew. “Nothing you should worry about.” Was her reply? “Now pick which you would wear now and go take your bath. Underwear is in that bag.” She snapped at me, it was like she was calling herself home.

Luckily, everything fitted perfectly. The bath was awesome and refreshing. I felt as clean as a baby when I was done.

The dress I chose was a flurry body hug dress, I had chosen it because I guessed it would be light in my body and it was. The other dress seemed so heavy and I didn’t like it. It seemed a bit too extravagant.

I came out barefoot, wearing the dress I had chosen, and I saw Chloe nod in approval. “This shoe fits your dress better.” It was a glass heels. It seemed like Mrs. King would be wearing heels a lot. “You look good in black as well. A perfect match for Alexandro.” She said in approval.

Just when she was finished speaking, I heard something ring.

“That’s room service. Your breakfast is here.” She said.

“Why hadn’t you used the bell when you came earlier?” I asked. I thought I only said it in my mind and not allowed it, but I knew I had when she replied.

“I did, you didn’t answer. I guessed it wasn’t a sound you’re used to so I knocked.” She explained, giving me that ‘you have a lot to learn look’. I was grateful her gaze wasn’t that of disapproval or disappointment but just noting that I had a lot to learn. I would be seeing her a lot and often so her opinion of me would determine if I was going to be frustrated or not. I intended to make her my friend.

Chloe didn’t even stand up from where she was sitting, she picked a short two-buttoned remote that had been sitting on the small table in the middle of the room and pressed one of the buttons. The door opened with a click.

Woah.

Someone came in, she was dressed in white and black like the hoteliers in movies. She came in pushing a cart filled with mouth-watering dishes of different varieties.

Chloe turned to look at me. “I didn’t know what you’d like.” That was going to be the explanation of lots of things.

There were some things I didn’t recognize on the cart.

“What would you like to eat?” I asked her, but she snapped at me back.

“Never eat with staff. Don’t even think of it!”

This was getting tiring.

I selected the plainest of all meals, I hoped it would taste as good as it looked.

Chloe went to the fridge to bring juice, water, and a glass cup.

The server left as soon as I had chosen a meal and Chloe stood up, “Eat well, I’ll be back.”

I watched her back as she left, grateful I could flush the food down the toilet if I didn’t like it.

Not long after she left, the door rang again.

I wondered if she had forgotten something but as soon as I picked up the remote to press the door open, I remembered her warning to always confirm who it was before opening the door. She was probably testing to see if I was going to be an obedient student or not.

I stood up to check who it was, Technology was Awesome. There was a screen showing who was behind the door.

On the other side was my husband, looking very impatient and angry.
