Valera

From where I chatted with a few acquaintances, I watched the tense exchange between my sons, Violet and a man who seemed to be familiar with the three of them. There was no fights, but I couldn't miss the tenseness that hummed between them since the man came in with that huge bouquet of flowers.

My roamed my eyes through the room, seeking Patrick, but I remembered him saying he was going to check on the barbecue. When Violet was called on the stage and Gaius started waking way, I excused myself politely from the group and walked in Gaius' direction. I caught up with him at the side lawn.

"Gaius."

He stopped. "Hey mom."

"Are you leaving?"

He tapped his temple lightly. "Uh, yeah. I have a terrible headache." He took my hand, a smile playing on his lips, but I knew that was to distract me. "You throw a good party, mom. And you look beautiful tonight."

I smiled. "Thank you, son. Why don't you stay a little. I'll get you pain relief and a lemonade to cool off."

VioletThe rest of the party passed in a blur. As soon as it was over, I thanked Patrick and Valera and allowed Dominic lead me into his car. I was surprised he was still there actually. The ride home was heavy with everything unsaid. I watched the dark night outside the window as Dominic drove, but I was aware of the eyes looking my way occasionally, brushing my cheek with the heat of his gaze. When I couldn't take it anymore, I muttered. "Say whatever it is you want to say. Your eyes are boring holes in my head." I waited for him to snap at me or bring up the discussion about Diego's attendance at the party. He took me by surprise when he asked in a cool tone. "How are you?" My head turned slowly in his direction as I let out a soft, incredulous laugh. "You’re really asking me how I am?" "Yes." He said tightly as though it pinched his ego to ask. I turned back to the window, extending my hand out to wade through the cool night air. "Shouldn’t you be mad that Diego showed

Violet I kept my smile in place while I signed a couple of books for my guests. I smiled, acknowledged their praises with courteous nods and thank yous, scribbled my practiced autograph on their books, but my mind was not really in it. My mind was on the three men that were circling each other like wolves. I had not expected Diego to show up since he told me he had an important trip to Louisiana. I had not expected him to bring along that huge bouquet of flowers that had everyone staring. But I'd loved his dramatic entrance, nevermind that I had to deal with the consequence of the three men being together in the same space. I signed another book and looked up just in time to see Gaius talking with Valera, who seemed concerned about him. I couldn't see his expression, but his back turned to me was stubbornly set. Someone stooped down and raised a camera in front of me to take a selfie. I smiled while she got several shots. When I looked in Gaius direction again, he was gon

Violet It was my book launch that afternoon and it seemed like a special day just for me. Patrick and Valera, bless their souls, had insisted on hosting it and now the garden venue looked dreamy, the perfect setting for a romance book launch. Tables with crisp white linens shimmered under soft golden lanterns hung on strings overhead. What blew me away was the masterpiece that was the stage which was a prop designed to look just like my book cover. I threw myself in Valera's arms, almost teary eyed. She had pulled every string to make this come together. "This is too beautiful. I love it!" I squealed. Valera patted my arm lovingly. "You did a beautiful job and we're proud."As soon as the guests started to arrive, I drifted through the space like petals, exchanging greetings and basking in their praises. A few literary journalists and bloggers were present too and I had a round of interviews."My my, I think we should host a book launch every time."I turned to the unmis

Diego Someone was closing in on me, digging at just the right places I'd set for them to dig and boy, I was getting thrilled. I’ve thought about the look on their faces a thousand times when it's time to reckon the truth they’ll have no choice but to swallow. Then I thought of Violet. God. I didn't think I would end up being drawn to her. She hadn't been part of the plan, until she walked into the studio that day, now I can't imagine the end without her in it. Revealing who I was would definitely set her world ablaze, but maybe we could get through if we walked straight into the heat instead of circling around the fire. I lifted the glass of wine to my mouth and took a short sip. My phone started ringing. Abandoning the glass of wine on the balcony, I walked in. It was Violet calling me. My heart thudded against my chest as I raised the phone to my ear. "I'm coming to you." That was all she said in a voice that sounded strained and I couldn't help the knots that started to ti

Violet I woke up on the morning of my twenty-seventh birthday with Gaius head between my legs, wickedly fucking me with his tongue until I came apart, my legs thrown wide open. His head came up, his mouth glistening with my juices. "Happy birthday, goddess."I smiled lazily as he leaned down to kiss me, giving me the taste of my own pleasure as his fingers ran down my stomach. "You're impossible," I whispered against his lips."So, what’s the plan for today? Am I stealing you away for the next twenty four hours or are you about to break my heart?" "I'm meeting my publisher first, then Dominic." I hesitated. "He said we'd be going out today.""No way. He remembered?"I shrugged and kept my voice light. "He hasn’t said anything yet, but I assume he has something planned. Sounded like it."Gaius expression was soft, but a bit strained. "Right. Can’t compete with the husband."I placed my palm on his shoulder. "You already gave me a very memorable start." A part of me wan
