Four years later

Lexi

I woke up to the low sound of two people whispering outside my door. They might as well have been shouting since whispering never stopped me from hearing anything.

“Okay, but this meeting is important to me. I’m set to be Max’s beta in a couple of months. Why can’t I just be there to know why these killings are happening?”

“Gosh, Keith! You already know the answer to that. Max would never allow it. He says you’re not ready, and honestly, you’re proving his point.”

“Glad to know that my twin’s got my back,” he scoffed.

“You guys realize that you’re no longer whispering, right?” I said, sitting up as I rubbed my eyes with the back of my hands.

“Sorry, Lexi,” Gayle said as she pushed the door open. She smiled, then shot her brother a glare. She’d grown taller. Her red hair was longer, and Keith’s hair had gotten longer as well. In Kloud pack, the Alpha’s family made it a tradition to keep their hair long for reasons I still didn’t understand. Right now, their red hair was a reflection of their agitation.

“What’s so important that you two had to come to my room just to argue?” I asked.

“There’s a meeting going on right now at the council hall,” Keith said. “We should be there. I need to know what’s going on, but Dearest sister over here thinks it’s a bad idea if we sneak in.”

Right, that meeting. I didn’t know all the details, but Keith had been whining about it for weeks. It probably had something to do with Rogue King, Dexter. He’d been attacking some small packs and killing their Alphas, forcing them into a rogue rulership.

“I just think it’s reckless to sneak in,” Gayle said, crossing her arms. “This is sensitive. They have their reasons for not including us.”

“You know you used to be a lot more fun four years ago,” Keith muttered.

“Listen to yourself, Keith,” she snapped. “Fun? You think I’m gonna have fun listening to all these talks of death and war? I don’t think so.”

“Keith,” I cut in before they argued any further. “How badly do you want to go?”

“So bad, Lexi. I need this,” he flopped onto my bed. “Look, we don’t even have to go inside. I just need you guys to give me a boost. I’ll climb up for a few minutes, then we’ll leave. No one will find out.”

I turned to Gayle, who was already frowning in disapproval before she said, “We’ve gotten into enough trouble over the years. But fine, if you two are set on doing this and we get caught, I’m pinning it on Keith. Right, Lexi?”

“Umm… yeah,” I said, because what else was there to say?

“Great. Get dressed and… don’t forget your contacts. Those blue eyes were kind of a jump scare when I saw you four years ago. Even now, I’m still not used to it.”

“Shut up, Keith. You’re one to talk,” I said, forcing a smile as they left my room.

Keith meant well, and his jokes were mostly harmless, but he never let me forget that day. He brings it up now more than ever, and I don’t know why. I’m not ready to tell them where I’m from or why I was exiled. Four years feels like too long to carry it alone, but the things I went through aren’t something I can hand Keith and expect him not to use as a punchline the next day.

Luckily for me, since most packs have people with different eye colors, unlike Kloud pack, they will never know where I’m from, and I would like to keep it that way.

After getting ready, I put in my contacts so I wouldn’t stand out. By the time I was ready, Keith and Gayle were waiting. We slipped out and crept toward the council hall. From where we hid, they were already talking about the rogue king

“It’s perfect. They’re talking about him,” Keith whispered. “Help me up.” He said as he planted himself on our shoulders while Gayle and I exchanged annoyed looks.

After what felt like forever, our arms trembling from holding him, Gayle snapped, “Aren’t you done yet? What are they even saying?”

“Lower your voice!” Keith hissed. “They’re saying Dexter hides his face behind a mask, so no one knows what he looks like. His scent is also hard to trace, so it's difficult to track him.”

“Yeah, that is common with rogues. Their scent is weird,” Gayle said. “What else?”

“That he is advancing towards bigger packs and...”

“And what else? My arms are burning!” I grumbled.

“Dexter might attack Bay pack soon. Let’s just get out of here, I’ve heard enough –“ Keith barely finished before we all came crashing down in the loudest, most obvious fall possible.

“Lexi! What the hell? Why’d you let go?” Keith grumbled as we all got up to our feet and bolted.

“I’m sorry. My shoulder hurt,” I lied. I didn’t tell them that something in my chest had tightened when I heard him say Bay Pack. I never thought I’d hear of them again. If Dexter is heading there, would my family be safe? Even if they’d doubted me when I was accused, I couldn’t pretend I didn’t care if they were in danger.

“Sorry about your shoulder, Lexi. There were just so many Alphas in there, all talking at once. It was hard to catch what they were saying,” Keith said.

I froze mid-step.

“What are you doing? Let’s go before someone sees us,” Gayle hissed, tugging at my arm, but I pulled away from her. There was something more important bugging me.

“K-Keith,” I stammered, “are there other Alphas in there?”

“Yeah! Like, all of them. I wish I could’ve been inside.”

“Oh no…”

“What?” Gayle asked, eyes darting between us.

“If he finds me here, he’ll kill me.”

“Who?”

“Let’s just go before it’s too late,” I said, running hurriedly.

“And where do you three think you’re going?” A deep, commanding voice said, leaving us frozen in place. We turned slowly, dread crawling up my spine.

Keith started to make an excuse on the spot. “I'm Keith, Alpha Max's brother. We were just helping Lexi over here since she was…”

But his words faded into nothing as my gaze locked on the man standing before us.

I couldn’t breathe. It was... Dean.

LexiMy legs burned as I ran.Branches scraped my arms, thorns tugged at my clothes, but I didn’t slow down. I kept glancing over my shoulder, half-expecting to see Jax behind me. And the worst part was that he wasn’t there. If he had been behind me, I think I would’ve felt safer. The thought made no sense, but nothing about tonight did.All I could think about was Dean telling Jax to kill me. My mind still hadn’t caught up to the fact that he had ordered my death. That he had meant it.I ran until the forest thinned and the ground beneath my feet turned uneven. My lungs screamed for air, and when I finally stopped, I bent over, gasping. My hands shook as I straightened. That was when I realized I had no idea where I was.The trees had given way to abandoned houses, their walls cracked and swallowed by vines. The place felt wrong. It was too quiet, too forgotten.Panic crept up my spine. If I kept running, I could run straight into Dean. If I hid, I could be trapped. I stood there, no

  • Bound to the Rogue Alpha: a twisted love story    The real monster

LexiGayle helped me slip past Dean’s hunters without being noticed. I took her car and followed Dean and Jax from a distance, careful not to get too close. They eventually stopped at a remote part of the pack, far from any main paths or homes. The place felt wrong immediately. Both of them were on edge. Dean kept turning his head, scanning the trees and the empty buildings around us. Jax stood slightly behind him, his posture rigid, his eyes sharp, like he was listening for something I couldn’t hear. They were expecting trouble.Watching them wasn’t enough. I needed to hear what they were saying. Luckily, my hearing was sharp. I didn’t need to be right next to them - just a little closer.I waited for the right moment, then quietly slipped out of the car and moved toward an old, abandoned building nearby. The walls were cracked and worn down, but it gave me enough cover. I pressed myself against it, holding my breath.“Are they trying to play a smart one on us?” Dean said, his voice

Lexi“It’s nothing,” he said, though his body betrayed him. His hand tightened at his side as he fought back a sharp grunt. “I need you to stop snooping around. There are people here who plotted against Dean. What if one of them gets to you?”“How are you injured?” I asked, completely ignoring his warning. His jaw clenched as he looked at me, blue eyes hard, almost angry. “Just go to bed. Take this turn before Dean finds out you left without security. I’ll be the one to suffer for it.”“Did he do this to you?” I asked quietly.“No,” he said immediately. “I was bested. We had a little sparring session. That’s all. Just go, please.” His voice dropped on the last word, and there was something in his eyes I wasn’t used to seeing - desperation.I didn’t argue. I turned away and slipped into the narrow passage he’d once shown me, the stone walls cool beneath my fingers. Within minutes, I was back in Dean’s room. I crawled into bed and forced my breathing to slow, pretending to sleep.Dean c

  • Bound to the Rogue Alpha: a twisted love story    Blood for Blood

LexiJax pulled me close, his arm tightening around my waist as he scanned the area like he expected something to leap out of the shadows. “Do you see anyone?” I whispered.“Yes.” The way he said it was so calm… so certain. It surprised me, because I couldn’t see a thing. He let go of me again, putting space between us. “It’s your friends.”Keith stepped out from between the trees, Gayle right behind him. “When we heard there’d been rogue attacks on the trail, I prayed you two weren’t caught in it,” Keith said. Gayle rushed toward me and pulled me into her arms.“Where’s Alpha Dean?” she asked, eyes flicking to mine. I glanced at Jax, but he stayed silent.“They took him.”Jax’s voice cut in abruptly. “Where’s your car?” He turned to Keith.“We left it back. Is that…” He sniffed the air, frowning. “…silver ash?”Jax nodded once. I could practically see the suspicion forming in his mind that maybe Keith and Gayle had put the ash in our car but he didn’t say it aloud.“Take her to Da

  • Bound to the Rogue Alpha: a twisted love story    Let me Save you

LexiI pushed myself out through the opposite door – the one beside where Dean had been sitting. It was already open, hanging crooked on its hinges. The whole place was covered in smoke as I got out. There was not a soul in sight, but I could hear screams from a distance.“Rogues! They attacked!”A rogue attack? When we had a hunter with us the whole time?My head throbbed as I pressed a hand to my head and stumbled forward. The car that had crashed into us was nowhere to be found, but as I tried looking around, I saw him. Jax.He was lying on the ground beside the car unconscious, but without a single scratch. He looked like he’d been dragged out of the driver’s seat. As if the attackers checked his face, saw that he wasn’t Dean, and tossed him aside. Unless… that was exactly what he wanted me to think. This traitor. He planned this, and now he’s trying to pass it off as an accident. Just when I finally got to be with Dean again, Jax ruins everything. My lips quivered as hot, shaking

  • Bound to the Rogue Alpha: a twisted love story    The First Time

Lexi I pushed away the ridiculous thought of Jax wanting me and focused on something that actually mattered. Why was Jax still here? Even if Dean insisted on keeping rogue hunters, did it really have to be Jax? After everything? I stepped away from Dean while he watched me with concern. “What’s wrong, Lexi?” I stared at him, amazed that he still needed me to explain. Wasn’t it obvious that Jax hated me? and that I hated him? Dean had known this long before he became Alpha, so why was he suddenly pretending not to understand? “Is it Jax?” he asked. “Yes!” The words flew out before I could soften it. “Lexi…” “Why is he still here? He worked for your father. He shouldn’t be anywhere near you. You know that,” I said, pacing back and forth from across him. Dean sighed. “I know we never liked him, but with Dexter on the move, Jax is needed. He’s the head rogue hunter… and my beta.” “Your beta?” I stared at him in disbelief. “Dean, he’s a ruthless murderer. You’ve seen wha
