The executive director stood with a few affluent guests, pointing toward a vivid photograph framed on a soft beige wall.

“I believe this is one of the artist’s most personal pieces,” the director was saying. “The pricing reflects that - not just its artistic value, but its story.”

Killian’s eyes flicked to the image.

Sunlight poured through a high window in the photo, bathing a dim, dusty room in warm gold. In the center, a woman’s figure was seated on an old wooden stool, turned just enough to reveal the slope of her bare shoulder and the hint of a contemplative gaze through the blur of foreground shadows.

Bold strokes of color spilled across the walls in what looked like peeling paint-or maybe graffiti fading with time. There was a stillness to it. A kind of delicate honesty that felt too close.

He stepped forward slowly, scanning the card beneath the frame.

The morning sun hadn’t yet warmed the windowsill when Aria’s phone buzzed relentlessly on the nightstand. She stirred, face buried in her pillow, blindly reaching for it. Five missed calls. Three from Lucy. Two from Mia. A text from Lucy read:“Aria… check the studio’s IG. Now.”Still groggy, she sat up, brows furrowed as she unlocked her phone. The moment the app loaded, her breath caught in her throat. There it was.A high-resolution photo of her and Killian at the exhibit - her lips pressed to his, his hand resting gently on her jaw. Framed in gallery lighting like they were part of the art.The caption above the post read:“Heir to Fortune. Heart Stolen by a Nobody?” A video clip below the image played on loop. The kiss. The moment after. Her stunned face. His calm one. Aria stared, heat rising to her ears. And then the comments…“IS THAT KILLIAN STONE??”“Sis, you better not fumble that bag!”“Canon Queen lands CEO King - I ship it.”“Why does she look like she borrowed that dre

Two weeks had passed, and Aria didn’t want to admit it-not even to herself-but something had shifted. It wasn’t love. At least, she wouldn’t call it that.It was just… coffee dates.Just… long conversations about art and life.Just… Killian. She told herself it was casual. That she wasn’t falling. Couldn’t fall. But then there were the little things - the way he laughed easily with her, the way he listened. Not just waited to speak. And sometimes, when he thought she wasn’t looking, he’d stare at her like she was a puzzle he couldn’t solve - and didn’t want to.She tried to keep her guard up. Tried to remind herself who he was: Killian Stone. Heir to Stone Global. A man with a schedule, a reputation, a hundred things more permanent than a girl with a camera and a complicated past. But he kept showing up. And so did she.Their meetings were spontaneous at times. Coffee in quiet cafes. Walks through neighborhoods filled with murals and mismatched architecture. A visit to an old bookstor

Killian’s phone vibrated once on his desk, lighting up with a name he hadn’t expected to see again - Aria Blake. He stared at the screen for a beat too long, the corners of his lips twitching upward as something sharp and warm fluttered in his chest. He hadn’t realized how tightly anticipation could coil inside him until now. Why the hell was he suddenly nervous about picking up a call?“Hello?” he answered evenly, trying not to sound too eager. There was a pause on the other end before Aria’s soft voice filtered through. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything significant."Desiring a moment of clarity, he got out of his chair and approached the wide windows of his office to look out at the extensive LA cityscape. “Not at all. I wasn’t expecting to hear from you.”Aria said, her voice even and careful, "I heard what you did." Still, there was a flicker of doubt hiding right beneath the surface. “At the exhibit. You didn’t have to buy it.”He turned slightly, gripping the edge of the wi

As glasses clinked and light music played, guests wandered from one amazing picture to the next, the gallery humming with conversation. With her camera dangling at her side, Aria glided through the scene. She kept watch over her exhibit while trying to ignore the man eyeing her from across the room.Killian Stone. His stare had weight - palpable, burning through the crowd - and though she tried to brush it off, it tugged at the edge of her focus like static humming in the background. She moved to the side, adjusting the lighting on one of the pieces from her collection. A trio of women approached, their silk scarves and designer bags identifying them as potential buyers. Aria greeted the interruption with a friendly, business-like grin as they asked about costs and creative ideas."I'm a fan of how this shows being alone without seeming isolated," one of them remarked, pointing to a monochrome image of a vacant park seat under a shower of dropping leaves.Aria said, "Thanks. • Breaking the Billionaire Code   Chapter 11: Just the Beginning

Aria stood in front of the full-length mirror, flattening the soft fabric of her floral top. Her reflection stared back at her - calm amidst the nerves, a woman trying her best to stitch focus over feelings. The soft morning light from her apartment window spilled across her floor, dancing over camera equipment, sketch pads, and a few half-packed lens cases. Her hand paused at the clasp of her necklace. She saw the missed call from Killian Stone - flashing and thrumming up in her memory. It had come the same night Mia dragged her out to that jazz bar in Westwood, determined to distract her from anything Killian Stone-related. And it had worked… for a little while. But then she got home, tired and a little buzzed, and there it was. A missed call. No voicemail. Just his name like a bruise blooming back to the surface.Aria sighed, brushing her fingers through her hair. “Why are you still calling me?” she murmured, almost to herself. He’d made it pretty clear who he was. Cold. Sharp. Unt
