ÒWhy?Ó There was no answer coming from the other end of the line, nothing but dead air, so she took the phone away from her ear and looked at it before putting it back to her ear again. ÒAre you there?Ó

ÒDid you hear me? Why do you want me to come straight there from here?Ó Again there was no answer, and she finally caught on. SheÕd noticed in the last few weeks since that sunset horseback ride that heÕd started to change.

He seemed to be coming out from beneath the dark cloud that had been hanging over his head. She wasnÕt sure if this new stubborn, possessiveness she sensed in him was the real him, or a by-product of all heÕd just gone through, but she knew she was feeling the brunt of it.

So when he didnÕt answer and didnÕt budge from his stance, she decided it was best to give in. HeÕd shown her the day before that he was more than capable of going to any lengths to get his way.
