Chapter 6 Trouble Woman

Laura flinched and immediately burst into tears. It wasn't just the pain in her wrist, but Asher's words were incredibly hurtful.

Stealing? How could Laura steal something that belonged to her?

"Did you only want to work here to steal?!" Asher glared at Laura. “I'm going to report you to the police!" he asserted, dragging Laura toward the door.

Laura could only shake her head, sobbing uncontrollably. "No! Let me go!" Laura screamed, "I didn't steal anything!"

Laura's outburst made Asher stop. "Not stealing?" he repeated. His brow furrowed as he continued to ask, "If you're not stealing, then is this necklace yours?"

Asher's question made Laura fall silent. Should Laura tell him the truth?

"I...!"

Just as Laura was about to say something, a sudden, intense dizziness attacked her head.

"Ugh..."

Asher looked surprised. "Laura?"

However, Laura couldn't even reply to Asher's words. Her vision, blurred by tears, darkened further. Her head felt like it was being pierced by a thousand needles. Finally, darkness enveloped her consciousness, and her body went limp to the floor.

"Laura!" Asher immediately caught Laura's body as she nearly collapsed. "Damn it!"

Asher carried Laura and laid her on the sofa. He quickly pulled out his phone and called someone, "Get a doctor to my office, now!"

After hanging up, Asher glanced at the necklace in Laura's hand and tried to take it back. However, Laura still clenched her fist tightly as if unwilling to let go of the necklace.

Confusion clouded Asher's mind. Why did Laura want this necklace so badly? Could it truly belong to her?

A few moments later, the company doctor arrived with Theo. The doctor immediately performed a complete examination of Laura.

"Well?" Asher asked as he watched the doctor pack up his equipment.

The doctor stood up and said, "This young lady... appears to be pregnant, Sir."

Instantly, Asher's face darkened. "Pregnant?"

Two hours later, Laura woke up. Her beautiful blue eyes blinked as she regained consciousness.

"Where...?"

"You're awake?"

The question startled Laura, and she immediately turned to her right, to the figure of Asher sitting on the sofa, staring intently at her.

Laura gasped and hurriedly sat up. Her head was still dizzy, and it made her wince.

'What... happened?' Laura wondered in confusion, trying to remember everything.

Laura remembered that after she saw Asher and Theo off, she went into Asher's office. Then, Laura proceeded to take her necklace from Asher.

Her necklace?!

Laura immediately looked down, realizing her necklace was no longer in her hand.

"Looking for this?"

The question made Laura look up at Asher. He was holding the necklace, her mother's heirloom, in his hand.

"How much money do you need that you dared to steal this from my hands?" Asher asked with a cold stare.

Laura bit her lip. "I wasn't stealing..."

Laura's reply made Asher raise his right eyebrow. "Not stealing? Then, is this necklace yours?"

That question made Laura frown. Should she confess?

No!

"It's similar... only similar to my lost necklace. I actually intended to return it before you came back to the office."

Return the necklace? Hah! Did Laura think Asher would believe that?

"Not only a thief, but you're also a master deceiver..."

Asher's insult made Laura's expression darken. "What?"

"Putting the matter of this necklace aside, your personal data states that you are unmarried. Why did you lie?" Asher asked, narrowing his eyes, his aura turning cold.

Asher's accusation made Laura stare blankly. "Married...?" What did he mean?

Laura's blank face made Asher lose his patience, assuming the woman was pretending. "Stop pretending in front of me. Why hide the fact that you are already married?"

"Married?" Laura blinked her eyes and replied loudly, "I am not married!"

Asher presented a document to Laura. "Then what is this?" Asher pointed to one part of the document and said, "The doctor says you are positively pregnant, and you say you don't have a husband? Did your fetus appear out of thin air?"

Laura's eyes widened. She... was pregnant?!

"That's impossible!" Laura cried out, standing up in disbelief at being accused like that.

Laura's shock made Asher scoff. "You didn't know you were pregnant? Or are you pretending not to know so you won't be blamed for manipulating your personal data?" Asher sneered.

Laura's temples started throbbing violently again. She felt very dizzy.

'I'm really pregnant...?' Laura looked at the document on the table. 'In my belly... there is this man's child?' Laura's blue eyes stared emptily at Asher.

While Laura was still stunned by the new reality she had just received, Asher was guessing the truth of Laura's statement. On one hand, Asher couldn't find any lie in Laura's demeanor. But on the other hand, Asher also remembered Laura's covert action of almost stealing his necklace.

This woman... was trouble.

"Get out," Asher commanded, startling Laura. "I don't want to have an employee who threatens my reputation and the company's."

Laura's face paled at Asher's words. She couldn't lose her job!

Not only was she unsure if she could get another job, but Laura was worried Alan and Emma would be disappointed in her if she was fired after working for only one day!

Besides…

Laura looked down at her still flat stomach.

If she didn't have a job, what about this baby?

Seeing Laura stand still, Asher frowned. "Didn't you hear what I said? I said get o…"

Thud!

Laura suddenly kneeled before Asher, which startled him.

"What are you…"

"Sir, please..." Laura no longer cared if what she was doing now was embarrassing and degrading to her pride. "Please don't fire me. I never intended to lie to you. I didn't even know I was pregnant," Laura said tearfully.

"Didn't know?" Asher's eyebrows knitted. What did the woman mean she didn't know?

Laura clenched her fists, her head bowed as she bit her lip.

What should she do? Should she confess to Asher about the baby in her womb?

However, what if Asher often slept with many women, and Laura was just one of them? Would Asher care about her?

Or perhaps, he would even ask Laura to abort the pregnancy?! But... the baby was innocent!

With all her fears and bad thoughts, Laura could only say, "I-I... I was raped."
