CHAPTER 3

                   Sophia's POV

"Here comes the bride."

I heard the announcer say and almost immediately, the large door to the hall flew open revealing guests and cameras flashing at me, I swallowed my saliva to calm my nerves.

I held the wedding dress that had suddenly be become tighter as I marched inside, focusing on the man who was soon to announced as my husband.

Each painful step in the awfully tight shoe that would have been my perfect size any other day, brought me closer to what would be my fate for the next one year.

"Sophia, you look beautiful." My father said as he extended his arm for me to curl mine in "he's not going to hurt you, I've started working on getting everything back, as soon as it clicks, you'll leave there."

I nodded.

That was the only thing I could do, I didn't know how to process everything, some days back, I would have been in my little Shop, doing what I enjoyed doing but here I am, walking to sign my freedom over to a man whose name once haunted me.

My father led me to where Bran stood, the guests were already on the feet clapping, the lights from cameras had also increased, all this made my nervous.

He took my hands from my father and led me close to him, he took my father's hands in a handshake, the two men not a word to each other. I watched as my father walked away, embarrassed to look at Bran and even more ashamed to look at me.

"I thought you would change your mind, really glad you know what is important. Family above your Ego." He said holding my hands tighter.

"Something you would never know." I retorted, ready to match his words.

"On this day, we witness the joining together in holy matrimony of our Son, Bran Garner and our daughter, Sophia Tyler. We are here to witness the solemnization of their beautiful love." The minister said, distracting us from the tension already growing between us.

Beautiful love? Seems he didn't get the memo, this was no love and beautiful was the wrong word to describe it, I was been sacrificed like I lost lamb, the only difference was that I consented to it and walked with my legs to the alter.

"If you continue with that face, no one would believe we're in love , they'll think I forced you down the alter."

I scoffed.

"And you think you look convincing? Please."

He smiled and held my hands tighter, I was already getting tired of how long everything was taking, this process use to be very short when I was just a guest sitting at the pews but right now, it was taking forever.

"Time to exchange the wedding vows."

"Finally." I said exhaling deeply, if we have gotten here then there's a chance that the ceremony would soon end.

"Do you Bran Garner, take Miss Sophia Tyler as your lawfully wedded wife? In sickness and in health, till death do you part." The priest asked looking at Bran.

"Yes I do." He replied, his eyes moving to me, it held nothing.

"Do you Miss Sophia Tyler, take Master Bran Garner as your lawfully wedded husband? In sickness and in health till death do you part?" He asked turning to me.

I swallowed.

Could I do this? I was lying in front of God and everyone. My eyes started to water, I looked over to my Dad, he was sitting down there quietly like a kid who was being reprimanded, his friends were around him.

"I repeat again, do you Miss Sophia Tyler take Master Bran Garner as your lawfully wedded wife? In sickness and in health, till death do you part?"

I heard him the first time, the words felt heavy in my mouth, my eyes were watering more, I felt his hand around mine, it was something more than assurance, a threat? warning or promise? I couldn't say. I heard murmurs.

"I do." I blurted out with every ounce of strength in me.

"I hereby pronounce the both of you, man and wife. You may kiss the bride."

I looked at him, this wasn't necessary, we could skip this part but he was quick, the next seconds, his hand was already around my waist, as his lips covered mine.

I let the tears fall .

                            •

I walked into the changing room and sat on the only available chair, I was supposed to come here and change into the second outfit for the reception.

"You seem to be having a lot of fun for a wedding that is just on paper."

I looked up to see Henna standing cross-legged at the door.

"Please, I'm not in the mood." I said wiping my eyes.

"Come on, you made a show when dad talked about marrying him that I believed you but look at you, this is probably a dream come true." She said walking towards me.

I have had Enough.

"Do you think I like the fact that I'm being shipped off like some goods to another man's house? I'm giving up everything to make sure we come out of this unscarred, do you think it's convenient for me?" I asked, trying to hold my anger and tears, I didn't want to destroy the makeup since I would be out again in no time.

"You're good with acting, you really deserve an award. You throw stones and hide your hands, then come back to play the victim and make it look like you are making a huge sacrifice."

"What are you talking about Henna?" I asked approaching her.

"I just want to see how dad would react when he finds out you and Bran are more than strangers."

I froze.

"Shocked? Now tell me how you want him to react when he finds out you orchestrated everything with your sweetheart so you both can have this perfect wedding, you be–"

A knock interrupted her and we both turned to look.

"Ma'am, it's time to change." The stylist assigned to me said as she stepped inside the room.

"I hope you have fun though, I hope everything doesn't collapse when you think it's over." She said while leaving but stopped at the door.

"I hope you know this one is bigger than you, you have more people to fight than you think." She added with a smirk.

I felt goosebumps on my skin.

Just as I was about to elaborate more on the brand, a jarring crackle ripped through the sound system, and the crowd collectively gasped. My eyebrows furrowed as the large LED screen behind me which was displaying close-up images of my designs flickered. The beautiful imagery of my Collections has been replaced with warped, random, and nonsensical images, and the background music is discordant and off-key. I stood there frozen’ my heart beating as though it was beating against my rib cage. Bran stood the moment the issue started and called out to the technicians to have it fixed immediately. People in the audience exchanged confused glances, while some laughed nervously and others looked increasingly uncomfortable. The technical team rushed towards the stage, their faces filled with a mix of confusion and growing alarm as they tried to fix the problem. Bran walked up to the stage where I stood and led me off the stage gently to a seat, and then he went back up to the stage.“We a

I was lost in thoughts and questions when a notification popped up on my phone. It was a message from Tessa telling me about the finalization of the banners for the launch later today. I picked up my phone and replied to the message. The new design launch is today, and my father’s birthday party is in three days. Maybe this is how things were supposed to turn out for me. I had planned to take back my father’s company, but now I am the one running it. I had planned to get married to Bran, make him love me wholeheartedly and then divorce him after a year as revenge for what I went through six years ago. But these past few days, I can’t seem to understand myself. Sometimes, I feel drawn to him, and my initial plans tend to recede from my mind. I suddenly heard a faint thud, and it seemed to come from the kitchen. I turned around to the direction of the kitchen and wondered what could have made such a sound. Mrs Reeves wouldn’t be in the kitchen at a time like this cause it’s already

Ren drove Jane to a private and reputable bar to keep her reputation intact. After a couple of minutes in the bar, Jane had been gulping down a couple of glasses of drink while Ren stood by her side, worried and concerned. She ordered another set and was about to gulp it down when Ren reached out and stopped her as he held her hand. “I think that’s enough for tonight,” Ren said, his eyes fixated on Jane.Jane looked at Ren and then removed her hand gently so she wouldn’t hurt herself in the process.“What? You also won't let me do what I want in peace?” She asked and turned back to her drink. “Of course not, ma’am,” Ren said and took a few steps back. Jane gulped the glass of drink and after placing the glass back on the counter, she stood from her seat, her stance not balanced, as Ren immediately reached out and held her in place.“Let me help you to the car,” Ren said and led her out of the car after he paid the bill for the drink.Ren finally led Jane into the car and drove he

*SOPHIA’S POV*The ringing and vibration from my phone called back my attention as I reached into my pocket for it and picked up the call, it was a call from Liam. “Hi,” I said as I walked away from where Tessa stood and towards the exit of the hall.“Hey, Sophia,” Liam said over the phone.“How have you been? I am sorry I haven't been in touch for a while now” I apologized. “No it's fine, I know you've been occupied with your new design launch and taking over your father's company,” Liam said.“Yeah, it's just been quite a lot,” I said.“I know right…… Quite a lot that you didn't tell me there was an accident on your way to the meeting” Liam said. “That—that came as a shock to me as well…… I still have not been able to process what exactly happened that day” I said.“Why do you say that? It must have been indeed quite a shock” Liam said.I suddenly remembered how Bran suggested and ordered Pierre to find any link or traces to the accident without attracting any attention. “It's n

*BRAN’S POV*Pierre walked into my office right after he knocked. I was already on my feet, so I grabbed my long brown coat and tried to wear it out as I walked towards the door.“Did you say she has been waiting?” I asked Pierre as he opened the door for me. “Yes sir, the appointment time was set to 2 pm sir. This is 10 minutes past 2 pm sir” Pierre said as he held the door until I walked out and he followed shortly after.Pierre drove me to a restaurant, a few blocks away from the company building and I immediately stepped in the moment I got down from the car.I searched for Mrs Brown’s daughter when I entered the restaurant and finally found her seated by the window, a couple of seats further from the entrance.I immediately walked up to her as she was lost in her thoughts.“Hi, I am very sorry that I arrived late,” I said as I took off my coat and sat right opposite her. “No no, it’s fine sir……I also just got here” she said calmly. “What would you like to have?” I asked her.“

BRAN’S POV*“The doctor says he will be fine as long as he recovers well,” I said as I held her hand gently. “That’s good….., but I am worried and scared, Bran,” Sophia said as she looked at me.“You don’t have to be scared” I reassured her. “It could have been me right there on the sick bed or even worse, in a grave……..if you hadn’t suggested I ride with you, I would have been involved in that car accident, what would have become of me?” Sophia asked with worry weighing on her face and eyes.“Have you had the car checked?” I turned to Pierre and asked. “Yes sir, I had the car towed away to be checked before the authorities arrived and we found something sir” Pierre reported.“You found something?” I asked as Sophia’s and my eyes widened out of curiosity about what was found.“Apparently, the brakes of the car were tampered with” Pierre reported.“What!?” Sophia exclaimed.“The brakes were tampered with?
