XADEN

I pull away instantly. I wait for her to wake but she doesn’t. She’d only responded to my touch. She stills again, breathing softly.

She’s so beautiful.

My jaw clenches hard.

What the hell is wrong with me?

Why do I want her this much?

She’s too dangerous. Just like me.

And yet all I want… All I crave… Is to touch her again.

There’s this burning need to claim her. To mark her. And she isn’t even mine. I want to know why her hair is dyed, why she wears contact lenses. What’s she hiding?

  • CHOSEN BY RUIN   Plain Truth

“I'm more disappointed that you knew she was hiding her identity and did absolutely nothing about it.” Darian had said.“When you say it that way, it doesn’t justify what it was.” Xaden says.“Of course it doesn’t. You’re just selfish, Xaden.” Darian says, pain in his voice. And I hate that I’m the core cause of his sadness.I draw a breath, then decide there is no point allowing them to circle around the truth. We have already told Darian about Alpha Soren and why I came to Supraveil in the first place. I haven't given him every detail, though. I have not explained everything surrounding the mission, the circumstances that led to me taking Hannah's identity, or the full extent of what Alpha Soren expected me to do.There are things I still cannot bring myself to say aloud.Darian looks at me again, his expression changing as the information seems to settle.“So you're Rhea's sister?”I nod reluctantly. He lets out a disbelieving laugh. “That's insane.”“Don't tell her,” Xaden says.D

  • CHOSEN BY RUIN   Bonding In Chaos

~Liliana's POV~Xaden’s vicious growl tears through the quiet surrounding us.Darian twists beneath him, driving his shoulder into his brother's chest and forcing him off. They roll across the ground, their bodies colliding with a force that sends dry leaves scattering beneath them. I stagger backwards, one hand still pressed against my aching throat as I watch them struggle.“How dare you touch her?” Xaden snarls possessively. His voice is almost unrecognisable, thick with a fury that makes my stomach tighten.Darian bares his fangs. “Get off me!”Xaden doesn't give him the chance to recover before lunging again. Darian catches his arm, but Xaden drives a fist into his jaw, sending his head sideways. A low, guttural growl escapes Darian as he retaliates, striking Xaden hard enough to make him stumble.“Stop!” I shout, rushing towards them. “Both of you, stop!”Neither listens. They crash against the wooden railing bordering the bridge, making it shudder beneath their combined weight

  • CHOSEN BY RUIN   The Crack

~Liliana’s POV~I step out of the bathroom, rubbing the remaining moisture from my hair with a towel.“Where's he?” I ask, a bit eager to know why he’s here.“Outside,” Penelope answers from where she's sitting on her bed. “He's been waiting for a while.”I nod, then reach for the clean clothes I've laid out. The dragon crest on my wrist catches my attention again, its intricate lines seeming almost too vivid against my skin. I quickly pull on a long-sleeved top, tugging the fabric down until it covers the mark.Of all the places it could have appeared, why my wrist? Somewhere I can barely keep hidden without looking suspicious.“Lily?”I look up to find Penelope watching me.“We should talk when you get back,” she says, her usual playful expression subdued. “About what happened earlier.”I release a tired breath. “I'm sorry, Penny, but knowing you're Professor Imogene's daughter makes it difficult for me to warm up to you right now.”She sighs. “I understand.”I turn away, suddenly u

  • CHOSEN BY RUIN   What Rhea Hides

Rhea's slap catches me completely off guard. For a moment, I'm too stunned to process anything else. My cheek stings, but the physical discomfort is nothing compared to the shock of seeing my own sister standing before me with such open hostility.I slowly turn my face back towards her.“What was that for?”“I should be the one questioning you.” Her eyes narrow. “What exactly do you think you're doing?”I stare at her, still trying to understand what has just happened. “What are you talking about?”“Don't play innocent with me, Hannah.” She takes a step closer. “I smelled a woman's scent on Xaden yesterday.”My stomach tightens.“And I know exactly whose scent it was.” Her lips curl. “Yours.”For a moment, I became speechless. It's not even the accusation that unsettles me most. It's the way she's looking at me, as though I've deliberately committed some unforgivable offence against her.Xaden had been careless. My scent must have gotten on him during yesterday’s banter.“It’s… it's n

  • CHOSEN BY RUIN   Their Hypocrisy

~Liliana's POV~"Did you kill them?"Luna Gwen's question hangs in the hall.I stare at her, my jaw tightening as I fight the urge to laugh at the absurdity of it all."No. I didn't kill anyone." My voice comes out sharper than intended. "And there's no need to contact my Alpha when I'm standing right here. If you have questions, you can ask me yourself."A few people shift in their seats.I know I should be more careful with my words, especially with nearly forty people watching me, but I'm tired of this. They're the ones running a corrupt academy. They're the ones exploiting students and hiding whatever happens to those who disappear. Yet here they are, sitting comfortably in their expensive seats, looking at me as though I'm the greatest threat Supraveil has ever encountered.Their hypocrisy makes my stomach turn.Luna Gwen studies me for a moment before speaking."I hear they've started calling you Liliana.""That's because it's my name.""Your name?" She raises an eyebrow."Yes.

  • CHOSEN BY RUIN   Did You Kill Them?

I stare at the crest on my wrist, momentarily convinced that I'm still trapped inside the dream. The intricate dragon head seems almost alive, its wings spread beneath a streak of lightning that curls around it.I quickly lower my hand, hiding it behind my body."Penny, go ahead. I'll be down in a minute." I force regulation into my tone even though nothing about how I feel right now is regulated.Penelope eyes me suspiciously, her gaze moving from my face to the hand I'm keeping out of sight."Are you sure?""Yes. I just need to get dressed."She hesitates before shrugging. "Okay. Don't take forever. Apparently, whatever is happening downstairs is pretty serious."The moment she leaves, I turn my wrist towards my face again. The crest is still there.Unlike Sloane's dragon crest, which is positioned on her neck, mine has a lightning pattern surrounding the dragon's head. It glitters faintly, almost as though something is moving beneath my skin, before the brightness disappears and it
