Noah POV

The ice at the Chicago Wolves training center burned beneath my skates. Every stride, every pass, every shot demanded my full attention. If I slowed down for even a second, my thoughts would find Adrian. My team was counting on me. I did not want to let them down.

Coach Harrison blew his whistle. Yelled at us to do it again.

I pushed off hard. My skates cut into the ice. I got past a defenseman. I made a pass. Then I shot the puck into the corner. It hit the crossbar with a ping before going into the net.

One of my teammates laughed.

"Nice shot, Captain."

"Again." I did not stop. Every stride burned, but I welcomed it.

The team had been working hard all week. The championship was getting closer. Everyone was tired. Nobody complained. We all wanted to win. I kept telling myself to focus on hockey. It was easier than thinking about Adrian.

He had promised to call me after the game. I kept checking my phone between drills, pretending I wasn't waiting for it.

We had not seen each other in a while because we were both busy. The only thing connecting us now was the bond we shared.

My phone was buzzed in my locker during the break. I did not answer it at first. Then it kept buzzing. I got three messages in a row.

I skated to the bench, grabbed a towel, and went into the locker room. The noise of the arena got quieter as the door closed behind me. I unlocked my phone. There was a news headline on the screen.

NEW YORK TITANS TEAM BUS PLUNGES INTO ICY RIVER. MULTIPLE FATALITIES CONFIRMED.

My fingers tightened around the phone. I looked for a list of survivors. I did not see one. All I saw were pictures of police lights, a bus in the water, and people trying to rescue others.

Adrian.

My phone fell out of my hand and hit the floor with a loud crack. One of my teammates asked if I was okay, but I could not answer. My chest felt very tight.

The bond between Adrian and me had always been there. For three years, it had been a quiet warmth beneath my skin. Now it was completely silent. Not distant. Not weak. Gone. The silence terrified me.

I quickly took off my gloves and skates, threw them aside, and pulled my hoodie over my head.

Without saying a word, I walked out of the locker room.

"Noah!" my teammate called after me. "What's wrong?"

I did not stop.

I walked out of the arena and into the air.

For the first time, I left practice without saying anything.  Every step felt heavy. I had to find Adrian and know if he was still alive.

The drive to New York was a blur. Snow covered the road. The windshield wipers were moving fast. I held the steering wheel tightly. My phone was quiet. There were no updates. The same pictures of the crash were on every news site.

Please be alive.

I whispered the words again, hoping somehow our bond could still hear.

***

When I got to the hospital, the parking lot was full of news vans and police cars. Reporters were standing outside the hospital. They shouted questions at me.

"Captain Bennett!"

"Do you have something to say?"

"Were you talking to Adrian Cross before the accident?"

I ignored them. I walked into the hospital through a side door.

The hospital was quiet. Nurses were walking quickly. Doctors were talking outside the rooms. The air reeked of disinfectant. I'd been in hospitals before because of hockey injuries, but this place felt different. It felt like death was waiting behind every door.

I headed for the Intensive Care Unit.

A security guard stopped me.

"Only family can go in."

I looked at him.

"I'm Captain Noah Bennett from the Chicago Wolves. I just want to check on Adrian."

The guard looked at me. Then he moved aside.

"You have five minutes."

I nodded.

"Thank you."

***

The Intensive Care Unit was almost silent. The only sounds came from the heart monitors and ventilators. I made my way to Adrian's room.

He was in bed under blankets. A ventilator was breathing for him. He had bruises on his face. Cuts covered his forehead. His arm was wrapped up. He did not look like the person I knew.

I put my hand on the glass.

"You said you would always come back," I whispered.

My chest ached, and seeing him like this was unbearable. I wanted to go in, hold his hand, and tell him he was not alone.

Then I heard footsteps behind me. I stepped back. I pulled my hood over my face.

Adrian's finger moved. The heart monitor started beeping, and nurses ran into the room.

"Give him medicine!" one of the doctors said.

It did not work. Adrian's heart rate kept going up. His scent filled the room. It was wild and frightened. I could feel his fear from outside the room.

My body reacted. I let my scent out. It smelled like the ocean and winter air.

The heart monitor slowed down, and Adrian's body began to relax. The room became quiet. The doctors exchanged stunned glances.

"His vitals are getting better," one doctor whispered. "But that only happens when a fated mate is nearby.

Who let out an Omega scent in here?"

I stepped back into the shadows. I knew exactly what happened. Adrian's Alpha instincts knew I was there.

***

Fear tightened around my chest. I pulled my scent inside. I did not want anyone to know what I had done. The doctors were not looking at Adrian. They were looking for me. They wanted to know what had calmed him down.

I turned away. I had to leave before anyone found out. As I walked toward the stairs, I heard a camera click. I froze and turned around. The hallway was empty. The elevator doors were closing.

My pulse raced. Someone had taken my picture.

If that picture got out, my life would be over. People would start asking questions. Reporters would dig into my life.

I stared at the elevator doors. Whoever took that picture had what they wanted. The bus crash. The broken bond. The photographer. None of it felt like a coincidence.

Someone had been watching Adrian and me.

They knew about our bond.

Now they were coming after us.

  • CROWN OF ICE: My Rival Captain Forgot Our Bond(MM ROMANCE)   CHAPTER 65: Game 7 — The Ice Bloodbath

Adrian POVThe air inside the United Center hit my lungs like frozen iron. This was the last game of the series, and every player on the ice knew it.Twenty thousand Chicago fans filled the stadium bowl, their voices roaring through the rafters in a continuous, deafening wave. Cold mist rose off the ice, smelling of skate wax, sweat, and cheap beer.I stood at the center ice circle wearing my dark blue New York Titans jersey.Across the red line, Noah Bennett lined up for the Chicago Wolves. His black helmet sat low over his eyes, his synthetic neck collar pulled tight under his jersey. Beneath his left glove, the heavy silver championship ring sat taped against his palm.Jax Miller skated up to my right, his dark Titans jersey soaked in sweat, his jaw set like a granite block. On Chicago's blue line, Leo Vance adjusted his gloves, his dark eyes flicking toward Jax for a split second before locking onto the referee.Head Ref Mark Clint skated into the circle, holding the black rubber

Adrian POVThe private banquet suite on the top floor was silent save for the hum of the air conditioning.A mahogany dining table sat in the center of the room, set for twelve with silver cutlery and crystal glasses. High glass windows behind the head chair showed the rainy skyline of Boston stretching into the dark. Rain streaked down the glass in long, slow lines, turning the city lights below into blurred streaks of gold and red.Commissioner Victor Blackwood sat at the head of the table. He wore a dark grey tailored suit, cutting a steak on his plate with slow, deliberate strokes. The silver knife scraped quietly against the plate with every cut.Four syndicate enforcers stood posted against the wood-paneled walls, their dark jackets unbuttoned over shoulder holsters. None of them looked at the food. Their eyes stayed fixed on the four of us.Jax and I sat on the left side of the table in our dark Titans suits. Noah and Leo sat directly opposite us, wearing their black Chicago Wo

Leo POVThe carpeted hallway of the fourteenth floor was silent.Four guards stood posted near the main elevators, but the far corner near the service stairs remained in deep shadow. I walked quietly along the wall, holding my black travel bag. The thick carpet muffled every step, and the only light came from the dim wall sconces spaced too far apart.A door clicked open up ahead. It was not a player room. It was the private laundry room where the team equipment bags sat lined up for the Game 2 pre-game check. A man in a tailored grey suit stepped out of the laundry room, looking left and right.I pulled back behind a concrete pillar, my heart hammering against my ribs.He held a small glass vial in his right hand. The blue cap on the vial matched the exact synthetic doping markers Mercer had used in the clinic. He reached down toward the large blue gear bag sitting on the top rack. The white stencil on the side of the bag read: J. MILLER — NY TITANS VP.The bastard was trying to plan

  • CROWN OF ICE: My Rival Captain Forgot Our Bond(MM ROMANCE)   CHAPTER 62: The Playoff Lockdown

Adrian POVThe heavy steel bolt in my hotel room door shot into place with a sharp, electronic clack.Outside in the carpeted hallway, heavy combat boots thudded against the floor. Private syndicate guards, dressed in dark tactical uniforms with zero security badges, took up positions every ten feet.I stood by the window of Room 1402, looking out at the rain-slicked streets of Boston. My phone sat on the glass coffee table. The signal bar showed a hollow grey icon with a small red X. A signal jammer truck sat parked on the street corner below, blocking every outgoing call from the hotel tower.Commissioner Blackwood had moved his pieces fast.Using the parking garage "incident" as an official excuse, he put both the New York Titans and the Chicago Wolves under mandatory hotel lockdown. No media. No federal agents. No leaving the floor before Game 2.I turned around, my hand dropping onto the wooden chair back.My dark blue Titans hoodie felt tight over my broad chest. Under the fresh

Adrian POVThe silver SUV tore through the dark, rain-slicked streets of Boston, its engine letting out a low, heavy hum.Inside the closed cab, the air was thick, hot, and completely saturated with my dark cedar scent. Noah sat anchored in my lap, wrapped tight in my heavy wool coat, his hands still clutching the torn collar of my dark blue Titans shirt. His whole frame trembled as the remaining electrical current faded from his muscles."We aren't going back to the hotel," Jax said from the driver's seat, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror."Carter's team set up a secure perimeter at a private estate outside the city limits. Federal guards are already on site."Leo sat in the passenger seat, his dark eyes fixed on Noah. "How are his ribs?"I slid my hand beneath the heavy coat, my broad palm pressing flat over Noah’s left side. His skin was burning hot, his sea-salt scent blending with mine in a dense, sweet cloud that filled the entire vehicle."They used a shock rod," I rasp

  • CROWN OF ICE: My Rival Captain Forgot Our Bond(MM ROMANCE)   CHAPTER 60: The Feral Rescue

Adrian POVMy dark amber vision narrowed to a single point. Everything else in the garage disappeared. There was only Noah and the men who had put their hands on him.I saw two masked men dragging Noah’s limp legs over the metal floorboards of that black van. I saw his dark eyes hazy with pain, his body trembling from the electrical current still humming through his veins.A roaring tide of primal, territorial rage tore through my chest. My dark cedar scent hit the subterranean air like a physical shockwave, dense, choking, and lethal.I closed the ten-foot gap in two massive strides. The lead enforcer turned his head, raising his shock baton to block me.I did not dodge. I swung the two-foot steel lug wrench with full force, slamming the heavy iron bar straight into the baton. Metal shattered. Electric sparks exploded across the concrete as the shock rod snapped in two. Before the man could draw a breath, I swung my left fist, driving my knuckles straight into his jaw.His head snapp
