27 : Because She's Mine

Mia's words had startled me and left me wondering–Had she suspected something that made her assume Lucien had harmed me? He had indeed spanked me but, even though I wish I could deny it, I had allowed it to happen because I had been longing for it. His grasp around my throat was strong yet not so intense that it could choke me to death.

I shook my head, my mind filled with questions as I asked Mia, "Do you think he would have survived and seen another day if he had abused me in any way?" Her lips pressed together in a tight line as she contemplated, then slowly she nodded her head.

I asked her in concern, noting that her complexion had taken on a pallor, though the usual fire in her eyes still burned brightly. "Leave it be," I urged. "Are you alright?"

I sniffed the air and the bridge of my nose immediately pinched as the smell of vomit wafted over me. "I'm fine," Mia said, her voice a bit strained. "I just puked a little."
