Selene’s POV

The house was calm when I stepped out of Aria's room. I walked through the passageway, it stretched before me, the grand chandelier above dimmed to a low golden hue, like the house knew it was supposed to be asleep. My footsteps were soft, barely a making a sound over the tiled floors.

I hadn’t planned on leaving this way, not exactly. But there was no good way. No easy way. Just a door and a decision. I wrapped Dominic’s coat tighter around me, more for warmth, and moved with careful determination toward the main entrance.

But when I reached the edge of the landing that overlooked the grand living room, I froze.

He was there. Seated on the sleek black couch with his legs crossed, his fingers steepled beneath his chin. Still dressed in the dark shirt from earlier, his sleeves rolled up. He looked carved out of from a God, still, calm, and entirely too alert.

Like he’d been waiting for me. "Where are you going?" His voice was calm, unhurried.

I hesitated. "Rach

Selene’s POV I didn’t have time to process much. I threw on my black jeans, a clean blouse, and a soft cream blazer. No makeup. Not a single stroke. I didn’t care how I looked. I just needed air and maybe a sense that my life was mine again. The car that picked us up was already waiting at the corner. Rachel stayed close, practically glued to my side as if she thought I might disappear again. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I felt exactly the same. By the time we arrived at the media house, I wasn’t ready for what waited. The second I stepped out of the car, the chaos hit me.There was flashing lights, shouts and journalists. A crowd of cameras and reporters surging forward like they’d been lying in wait just for me. “Selene! Over here!” Rachel said, trying to help me weave in through the crowd. “Are you the official face of the Youth Conference?” “Miss Selene, are you currently in a relationship?” “How does it feel to be a public figure overnight?” “Is it true you had a c

Selene’s POV I left to the room where Aria was sleeping since Dominic was hell-bent on not letting me go, I was going to sleep with my baby then. It smelled faintly of clean linen. Sleep didn’t come easily, not with the weight of everything that had just happened. But I didn’t close my eyes until I moved Aria’s crib across the room and wedged a chair beneath the door handle. Even then, it wasn’t sleep. It was survival-mode unconsciousness. I woke up the next day, the sun was already slicing through the windows. A knock came, soft on the door. It was one of the maids in the house, her eyes downcast, her words brief told me Dominic had arranged a driver to take me home whenever I was ready. No questions asked. He wasn’t there to see me off. That was exactly like him. And I didn’t know why it even bothered me. I packed quickly, kissed Aria’s forehead one more time, and told the guards not to follow me as I climbed into the sleek black SUV waiting at the gates. They didn’t argue.

Selene’s POVAs soon as the question left my lips, something pierced through the glass of the car. The sound of shattered, ringing in my ears as Dominic immediately swerved us out of harm’s way and drove off. The bulletproof car had done its job, but it felt like the everything was collapsing around us. Again. I didn’t say a word during the drive. Neither did he. The air between us was so thick, it felt like breathing through smoke. I was curled into myself, Dominic’s coat still wrapped tightly around me, his scent oddly comforting despite the storm of emotions thrashing inside me.Few minutes later, we finally pulled up to the estate, his home, I didn’t wait any further. The gates opened and I was already out of the car before it fully stopped. “Where’s Aria?” I asked the first guard I saw. My voice cracked, but I didn’t care. “Second floor, ma’am. Right wing nursery. She’s safe.” Safe. The word rang hollow until I saw her with my own eyes. I bolted up the grand staircase, my l

Selene’s POV The branches tore at my arms like claws as I ran, my breath hitching, my lungs screaming to go faster as the footsteps lunged closer. The leaves wet from the earlier downpour, and every step I took felt like it dragged me deeper into a place I wasn’t going to escape from. My bare feet slipped on the ground, and the taste of blood coated my tongue where I'd bitten down to silence my own sobs. I didn’t know where I was going. I only knew I had to run. For Aria. For myself. For the pieces of Dominic that were finally starting to make sense. But freedom wasn’t meant for women like me. A sharp pain sliced through my temple, I fell down and everything went black. ***** I woke up in a room that smelled like something rotten beneath the surface. My wrists were tied behind me, my legs bound to the arms of a chair, and my skin prickled with the awareness of being watched before I even opened my eyes. Adrian. I didn’t have to see him to know. That presence... oily, smu

Dominic's POV The tires shrieked across the pavement as I pulled up beside the building that matched the coordinates sent to my phone. I stepped out of the car slowly, my coat flaring with the wind. The air around me was humid from the earlier rain—but it did nothing to smother the cold rising inside me. My eyes scanned the silent building ahead. The windows were blacked out, the kind of black that wasn’t just from lack of light but design. Someone didn’t want this place seen from the outside. Bad decision. Selene wasn’t in the car where I left her. No sign of struggle, no sound, no trace—just a faint warmth on the leather seat when I reached for the door earlier, Aria fast asleep in my arms. Now, she was with Enzo. Safe. That was the only part of this entire situation that wasn’t fractured. Adrian. That bastard. Betrayal burned slower than rage. I’d buried my emotions where no one could find them—but this… this was different. The metal door creaked under the weight of m

Dominic's POV I carried Aria out with blood on my hands. Not hers, never hers, but the men who’d thought they could touch her.She was weightless in my arms, her head buried against my chest, trusting, too trusting. The smell of iron still clung to my sleeves. Her tiny fingers curled against my shirt as if she knew it was over, that I’d come. And I had. For her. For Selene. I reached the car and felt something shift in my chest. Off and Wrong. The passenger door was open. Empty. She was gone. Selene was gone. The breath I took didn’t feel real. My grip tightened around Aria as I scanned the road, the tree line. No blood. No signs of struggle. Just… nothing. My jaw clenched hard. I set Aria gently on the back seat, covering her with the thin wool blanket I’d left earlier. She stirred, mumbling something soft and incoherent, still asleep. She didn’t need to see this. My phone buzzed in my pocket. One new message with no name. “If you want her alive, come to the Hartsfield shippin

Selene's POV For a second, I thought I was hallucinating. My body was already shaking from everything Adrian had done or almost done but seeing Lina walk through that door… it knocked the air out of me. Her hair was a mess, her face pale, eyes swollen. She looked nothing like the girl who used to twirl around in my room in high school, stealing my lipstick and whispering things into my ears. No, this woman was scared. And not of me. Of something else. “What… what the hell are you doing here?” My voice cracked as I pushed myself away from the corner of the room, gripping the edge of the wall for balance. Lina’s eyes darted behind her before shutting the door quickly and locking it. “There’s no time, Selene. You need to listen to me.” I scoffed. “Listen to you? After what you did to me?” “I know. I know what I did.” Her voice trembled. “And I regret it every single day. But this isn’t about the past right now. You need to get out of here.” I stared at her. “Why are you here, Lina

Selene POV As soon as I closed the message, the door burst open again without warning. Two men stepped in, those same brutes who had shoved me into the car, their expressions stiff, like machines executing orders. My heart jumped as they approached. I stepped back instinctively, but there was nowhere left to go. “Get up,” one of them barked, gripping my arm without waiting for me to comply. “Don’t touch me—!” I snapped, jerking my arm back. It only earned me a tighter grip. They didn’t bother explaining. They dragged me down the hallway, past the walls and chandeliers that didn’t belong to any place I should be in. It looked more like a luxurious prison than a home, clean, expensive and suffocating. I was shoved into another room, and the door closed behind me with a loud click. And there he was. Adrian. Standing shirtless by a wide mirror, towel slung around his waist. His back was turned to me, his body glistening like he had just stepped out of the shower. Water dripped
