Chapter 84: Things That Linger

Aurora’s POV

None of us finished anything.

Not really.

By the end of the session, the studio looked like a small, enthusiastic disaster zone—splashes of clay on aprons, on stools, on the floor, on Alex’s curls, and somehow on Jace’s sleeve despite Tatiana’s repeated attempts to keep him contained. The pieces on our wheels were… abstract. If I was being generous. Mine had started out promising before Jace “accidentally” knocked my elbow for the third time. His had collapsed so spectacularly that Tatiana had laughed and called it “ambitious.”

Alex’s wasn’t even on the wheel anymore.

It was on him.

On his hands, his arms, his cheeks. A little streak sat proudly across his nose like war paint. He beamed every time Jace pointed it out, laughing harder when Jace declared that Alex had clearly misunderstood the assignment and decided to become the pottery instead.

“I think he nailed it,” Jace said, hoisting Alex up under the arms. “Very immersive. Ten out of te

Chapter 87: Where the Noise FadesJace’s POVAurora turned to me and nodded.Just that. No hesitation. No tension. A simple nod that felt heavier than any argument we’d ever had.I stepped fully into the room, careful not to crowd her or Alex. The air still smelled faintly of clay and something softer—Aurora. I handed the towels to her, neatly folded, like I’d rehearsed this moment in my head even though I hadn’t.“I brought towels,” I said. “There aren’t any in here yet. The bathroom’s stocked though. Soap, shampoo, bubble stuff—everything.”Alex’s head snapped up instantly. “Bubbles?”I chuckled despite myself. “Yes, bubbles.”His face lit up like I’d just handed him a winning lottery ticket.Aurora took the towels from me. Our fingers brushed briefly, and I forced myself not to react like an idiot. “Thank you,” she said.I nodded and gestured toward the wardrobe. “You can use any of the clothes in there. I bought them all for Alex.”She looked at me, amused. “I know.”Of course she

Chapter 86: The Rooms We KeepAurora’s POVJace was the first to recover.“Devon,” he said slowly, evenly, the way he did when he was trying not to let irritation show, “what are you doing here?”Alex stayed very still beside me, his small hand slipping instinctively into mine before he seemed to realize it. His eyes stayed fixed on the man standing in the doorway like he’d walked into the wrong story.Devon, meanwhile, looked entirely unbothered.“I had a break,” he said, lifting the juice box to his mouth and taking a long, unapologetic sip. “Figured I’d swing by. I just didn’t know you’d have… visitors.”His gaze flicked to me, then down to Alex, curiosity lighting his face.“Oh,” he said, his expression changing instantly. A grin spread, bright and warm and entirely too confident. “Hey.”He crouched down to Alex’s height, setting the juice box aside like this was a sacred moment. He raised his hands, palms out. “Sup, nephew?”Alex didn’t move.He just stared at Devon. Then, with t

Chapter 85: Unfamiliar GroundJace’s POVAurora was quiet. Not the thoughtful kind. Not the tired kind. The kind that pressed against the inside of the car like fog, thick and watchful, like it was waiting for something to break.I kept my eyes on the road, hands steady on the wheel, but I felt it anyway. Every second of it.Alex hummed softly in the backseat, swinging his legs, blissfully unaware of the tension stretching thin between the adults occupying the front of the car. Clay still lingered beneath his fingernails despite my best efforts with wet wipes. There was a faint smear on his cheek I’d deliberately left untouched because he’d laughed when I tried to wipe it off.Aurora stared out the window.I cleared my throat. “You don’t want me to make lunch?”She turned slowly, like I’d just accused her of something. “Why would you even think that?”I shrugged, the motion tight, awkward. “You’ve been quiet.”“So?” she asked. “That means I don’t want food now?”“No,” I said quickly.

Chapter 83: Hands in the ClayJace’s POVAurora’s laugh caught me off guard. It wasn’t the careful sound she used when she wanted to keep things light without letting them go too far. It wasn’t polite or measured or restrained. It was free. Unfiltered. It came from somewhere deep and honest, and it did something to my chest that I didn’t have a name for because it's a laugh that I've longed to hear for ages. A laugh that I didn't get yo hear when we were married. This was a laugh I thought was gone but it was there. It existed. She was laughing freely.I smiled before I realized I was doing it.She shook her head at me, eyes bright. “It’s not my fault you don’t have an artistic bone in your body.”I looked down at the sad, wobbling thing spinning on my wheel. “That’s not fair,” I said solemnly. “I have bones. Plenty of them. The clay just refuses to listen.”She arched a brow. “Listen?”“Yes,” I said, gesturing at the lump accusingly. “I’m trying to bend it. Shape it. Make it obey. A

  • Claimed By The Billionaire Ex   Clay and Quiet Things

Chapter 82: Clay and Quiet ThingsAurora’s POVThe inside of Jace's car was quiet.Alex sat in the back, buckled into his seat, his legs swinging slightly as he hummed to himself and clutched Renald tight against his chest. Jace drove with one hand on the wheel, relaxed in a way that felt deliberate, like he was trying not to crowd the space with words.I watched the road stretch ahead of us, unfamiliar and winding, trees blurring past the windows.“Where are we going?” I asked finally, breaking the silence.Jace glanced at me briefly, the corner of his mouth lifting. “It’s a surprise.”From the backseat came an excited gasp.“I love surpwisess!” Alex squealed. “Me and Renald love surpwisess too!”I turned slightly, smiling despite myself. “Oh really?”He nodded hard, curls bouncing. “Yes! We love them a lot.”Jace chuckled under his breath. “Sounds like I picked the right plan.”Alex leaned forward in his seat as much as the straps allowed. “Mommy surpwised me once too,” he announced
