Chapter 3

Author: Southern Wind
Silence ensued. No one had expected me to be so bold. Their faces showed nothing but surprise.

Cassian stared at me in disbelief. A flicker of helplessness crossed his eyes.

Seeing that, Asher quickly went up to him. "Alpha Cassian, there's no need to accommodate her since she's being so ungrateful. A she-wolf from a small pack like her doesn't deserve to be your Luna in the first place anyway. If you force yourself to accept her, it would only harm your prestige."

Cassian agreed with him and regained his composure.

However, he frowned again. "But… My pack knows I'll be marking my Luna tonight, and everyone is waiting to meet her. If I call off the marking ceremony now, where does that leave my honor as the Alpha?"

A slight smile formed on Asher's face. There was a devious glint in his eyes. "Alpha Cassian, the daughter of the Silvermoon pack's Alpha, Irina Torvald—who visited us a few days ago—is gentle and distinguished. Pardon me for saying this, but only a she-wolf like her is worthy of being your Luna.

"The Silvermoon pack is one of the largest packs in the area, second only to ours, and Irina is the Alpha's only daughter. If she becomes your mate, our pack will surely prosper."

Cassian abruptly asked, "Is she a white wolf?"

I was stunned, confused as to why he would ask such a question. Could it be that he was into white wolves?

Unfortunately, I was one only when I was younger. As I grew, my fur turned a darker shade, and I eventually became a black wolf like my father.

Asher immediately understood what Cassian was concerned about. He quickly answered, "Of course, just like your first love."

"But… Will she agree to be my mate?"

Cassian was tempted. Seeing that, Asher was delighted. He replied hastily, "Don't worry. The moment she laid eyes on you, she thought you looked familiar, as if she'd fallen for you a long time ago.

"She's even dropped by to attend your marking ceremony just to see you and is now waiting outside. One word from you, and you could proceed with the marking ceremony with her as your mate."

Noticing the excitement on Asher's face, I finally understood.

Iris said in a low voice, "He was indeed finding faults with you on purpose!"

Although Cassian was domineering and rude, he didn't seem like someone who could come up with over a hundred oaths.

Besides, when Asher read out the oaths, I observed Cassian's expression closely. It seemed there were a few oaths that he didn't know about. I suspected back then that something wasn't right. Now, it was clear that Asher was the one behind it all.

He must be on Irina's side, trying to sow discord between Cassian and me, just to help Irina rise to be the Moonfall pack's Luna.

At that thought, I said coldly, "Alpha Cassian, no matter what, our marking ceremony has been made public. Even if we were to call off the marking ceremony, you can't just switch your mate on short notice. Don't you think that's just too rude?

"Besides, I'd like to know who came up with all those oaths. Could it be that your patrol leader is so unwilling for me to be your Luna that he invented those oaths just to make things difficult for me?"

Instantly, both Cassian and Asher turned uneasy. They exchanged a frantic glance.

Suppressing his guilt, Cassian replied, "An outsider like you has no right to question me, nor do you have the authority to suspect my patrol leader of such a deed. If you spout any more nonsense, I'll cast you out of our pack's territory."

Their reactions proved me right.

I heaved a great sigh. Cassian's father, Horatius Locke, had both brains and brawn. He led the Moonfall pack out of their looming downfall and regained their glory. I wondered why Cassian failed to inherit even the slightest bit of wisdom from his father.

On behalf of Horatius, I decided to advise Cassian for the last time. Iris sneered at me for being too kind, but didn't stop me anyway.

"Cassian, do you really think Asher's done all that for you? Have you ever thought of the consequences you'd have to face after changing your Luna candidate abruptly—"

Before I could finish, Cassian furiously snapped, "Noelle Sawyer, I told you you have no right to suspect Asher. Who do you think you are? Do you think you can order me around just because you managed to butter up my dad? I'm telling you, even if you beg me now, I will never mark you."

Asher added, "That's right! How dare an outsider like you talk to our Alpha in such a manner! Guards, chase her off our territory."

I cast him an indifferent glance. "You're overdoing your act. Is the mastermind planning to hide in the shadows during the marking ceremony too?"

Immediately after I said that, a pretty she-wolf dressed in bright clothes entered the room.

Horatius was wallowing in regret. He shot Cassian a glare. "You bastard! What was I thinking—why did I appoint you as the Alpha of the Moonfall pack? After all the planning I painstakingly made, and we were so close to seeing our pack prosper, yet you've ruined everything! It's all over now!"He let out a huge sigh.Indeed, after the humiliation I'd received from the Moonfall pack, even if I let things slide for Horatius' sake, they would never progress beyond their current state.Iris remarked coolly, "That's not all Cassian lost—He was so close to becoming the father of the next successor to the Kingdom's throne."Cassian finally realized something was wrong. Frantic, he asked, "Is she from a bigger pack?"Horatius glared at him, peeved. "She is the only daughter of the Alpha King. You wretched son, you almost doomed the entire pack."The moment he said that, everyone fell to their knees in fear, begging me for mercy.I took down the magical necklace and revealed my noble bloo

My father had always said that when we were up against a wicked wolf, we should retaliate in ways that were more wicked than they were.At that thought, I slowly rose to my feet. I walked up to Irina and slapped her harshly across the face. I hit her so hard that her face immediately became swollen, and blood trickled from the corner of her lips. She stared at me in disbelief. "You worthless Omega, how dare you hit me! I'll show you who you're up against."With a furious howl, she shifted and dashed toward me. She growled, "Die!"Almost immediately, I lashed out and sent her flying backward. She fell to the ground weakly and coughed up a mouthful of blood.Iris stretched lazily. She sounded displeased as she remarked, "She couldn't even survive a hit. How pathetic."Irina didn't expect me to be that strong. She seemed flustered, but she remained proud as she declared, "Noelle, how dare you hit me! I will never let you get away with this!"Smiling, I knelt beside her. "Very well.

As my words resonated through the room, so did the overwhelming pressure of my commanding authority.Sensing it, Horatius became frantic. He almost fell to his knees to beg for mercy, but I stopped him. "Horatius, you saw with your own eyes how they insulted me. Are you trying to cover up for them?"Iris barked, "Don't show them mercy. How else are we supposed to uphold the Kingdom's dignity?"Irina didn't realize how flustered Horatius was. Her tone was laced with sarcasm. "The consequences of doing you wrong? I'm amused. What can an Omega like you do to me?"I'm the heiress of the Silvermoon pack. Do you have any idea how many packs are waiting to work together with my father? It's your honor to be insulted by me, lowly Omega."Everyone else looked at me mockingly. They thought the devastation had driven me mad, which explained my haughty manner. However, their attitudes were the least of my concerns. They would soon learn if I were boasting or merely speaking the truth.Notin

To my surprise, Irina spoke up first this time. She scoffed and tossed a check to me. "I know what you're trying to do. You're causing a scene just to get something out of it! Write down any amount you want on that check. I'll pay you just for you to shut up!"I cast the haughty Irina a disdainful glance. "Irina, take my advice and stay down. The Silvermoon pack wouldn't want to go up against me."Iris mocked her. "No wonder the Silvermoon pack is growing weaker—they even appointed such a dumb she-wolf to be the successor."Upon hearing me, Cassian immediately pulled Irina behind him. He glared at me. "Stop boasting. Don't think that I don't know what has happened. If your father hadn't been buttering up to mine, you wouldn't even be standing here talking to me."If you're truly a capable she-wolf, there's no way I wouldn't be able to sense your bloodline. You're nothing but a lowly Omega!"I was stunned at his words.Iris couldn't hold back anymore. "Idiot! Who is he calling a

My father didn't see that coming. He was surprised and furious. "Elly, is this a joke? How dare that brat do this to you?"Taking in the smug looks around me, anger crept into my eyes as well. "Father, am I someone who'd joke around about something like this? They said they wanted to chase me out of the Moonfall pack. The guards are already on standby."I told him how Cassian forced me to swear the oaths and how Irina interrupted the ceremony. His furious howl resonated throughout the whole room. "Which pack does that outrageous she-wolf belong to? How dare she disrespect you!"I was just about to answer when Asher snorted. "As expected of a lowly Omega—even her family is that ungrateful! Mr. Sawyer, hurry up and take your daughter with you. The honorable heiress of the Silvermoon pack will be our future Luna. Your daughter is nothing compared to her."No one had dared to talk to my father with such insolence. He chuckled in anger. "The Silvermoon pack?"Asher pretended not to he

"Cass, do you really want me to be your Luna?" Irina asked, delighted.Asher ran up to her in excitement. "Irina, you're finally here!" I calmly looked toward her and smiled. "So, I guess you're the one Asher pledges his loyalty to. You're doing all this for the sake of becoming the Moonfall pack's Luna, right?"Irina sneered, her eyes shining with glee. "As expected of the she-wolf whom the ex-Alpha held in high regard. You're truly intelligent, but sometimes, your wits will be your undoing."You refused to make the oaths earlier on. Am I right? What a pity. You had a chance to be Luna, but now, you'll forever be a lowly Omega."She paused and shot me a sarcastic smile. Then, she continued, "Your father must've sacrificed a lot in exchange for your chance to be Luna. Unfortunately, you've put his efforts to waste."I couldn't stop myself from smiling. "You're right. Someone has indeed put their father's efforts to waste."Irina snorted. "It's too late to change your mind now.
