Chapter 2

Author: Southern Wind
Asher glared at me before instructing the other werewolves, "Take her to Alpha Cassian so that he can punish this rude she-wolf!"

Almost immediately, a group of werewolves closed in on me with weapons in hand. Then, they violently dragged me into Cassian's room.

When Cassian saw me, a look of contempt crossed his face. "I knew you wouldn't give up on becoming my Luna. Have you memorized the oaths?"

With an icy expression, I replied, "You've misunderstood. I didn't change my mind. I will never recite the oaths."

Iris growled in agreement.

Cassian sized me up impatiently. "How stubborn. Since you aren't going to obey me, as Alpha of the pack, I shall now command you to swear the oath!"

Upon hearing that, a tinge of bitterness crept into my heart. I asked, word by word, "Cassian, do you remember me? When we were young, we—"

Displeased, he interrupted me before I could finish, "You're lying! You're not one of our pack. How could I possibly have met you before! I warn you, the Moonfall pack hates being lied to. Tell another lie, and I'll make sure you pay for it!"

He flashed his sharp fangs at me, all the while glaring at me as though I were his prey.

Iris almost lost her temper. "What expectations do you even hold from a werewolf like him?"

I was very disappointed.

Cassian had a really tough build. He was from the strongest breed among the werewolves. I was really pleased to have him as my mate.

However, he had forgotten about our past. He had told me when we were younger that he liked me and would mark me to be his Luna after he took over as Alpha.

Sure enough, my mother was right—male werewolves learned to deceive from a young age.

I had initially planned to tell him my identity, but it seemed I didn't have to anymore.

The Cassian standing before me saw me as nothing more than an opportunistic she-wolf currying favor with the powerful.

I took several deep breaths to get a grip on the swirl of emotions within me. Then, I calmly said, "Cassian, even if you've forgotten about me, I'm still your future Luna. It's inappropriate of you to be so rude to me during our marking ceremony."

Upon hearing that, Cassian stopped baring his fangs at me. However, his gaze was still filled with contempt.

"How dare you call yourself my future Luna. You and your family buttered up my father so that he would agree to our bonding and make it a prerequisite for me to take over as Alpha. If it weren't for that, did you think you could even set foot on our pack's territory?

"Don't even think that you can order my pack around after we bond. You can only stay in my manor and not go anywhere else. It's up to me to choose which she-wolf I prefer to be the mother of my pup. All you have to do is raise my pup obediently. Do you understand?"

Fists clenched, I stared coldly at him. "Since you're that dissatisfied with me, why bother forcing yourself to bond with me? Let's call the marking ceremony off. Don't worry. I'll talk to your father personally, and it won't affect the Moonfall pack in anyway—"

Cassian cut me off in a fury. "Enough, you cunning she-wolf. Don't play me for a fool—you're just using my father to threaten me. Werewolves have always valued strength—how could there be someone as sly as you? It'll be disgraceful to have someone like you be my Luna."

I almost burst out laughing. His imagination was getting the better of him.

I thought I was sincere enough when I made that suggestion, yet he twisted my words and interpreted them differently.

Feeling resigned, I sighed. "Look, let's go to my father now. We'll tell him that we're calling off this ceremony and that I'm the one refusing to be your Luna."

All the other werewolves were stunned upon hearing me.

They finally understood that I wasn't lying about giving up on becoming their Luna.

"Oh dear, she really rejected Alpha Cassian. How dare she?"

"I've never seen such an idiot before. If I could become Alpha Cassian's Luna, I would never give up so easily."

Iris snorted and mocked me—my good intentions had earned me nothing in return.

I was my father's only pup. He had planned to assign one of Cassian's and my pups to lead the kingdom. However, it seemed that was unnecessary.

Cassian was merely a better candidate among the rest, not the only one. Rather than becoming someone's Luna, I preferred becoming an Alpha Queen.

What a pity, though. It was Cassian's father who'd tried all means to finally meet my father. He talked my father into allowing me to bond with Cassian, so that he could use my father's influence to strengthen the Moonfall pack further.

His effort had eventually gone to waste.

Cassian turned to me with reddened eyes, filled with surprise. "Will you really call off the marking ceremony and give up becoming my Luna?"

Smiling, I thrust the attire specially prepared for a Luna on the ground.

Horatius was wallowing in regret. He shot Cassian a glare. "You bastard! What was I thinking—why did I appoint you as the Alpha of the Moonfall pack? After all the planning I painstakingly made, and we were so close to seeing our pack prosper, yet you've ruined everything! It's all over now!"He let out a huge sigh.Indeed, after the humiliation I'd received from the Moonfall pack, even if I let things slide for Horatius' sake, they would never progress beyond their current state.Iris remarked coolly, "That's not all Cassian lost—He was so close to becoming the father of the next successor to the Kingdom's throne."Cassian finally realized something was wrong. Frantic, he asked, "Is she from a bigger pack?"Horatius glared at him, peeved. "She is the only daughter of the Alpha King. You wretched son, you almost doomed the entire pack."The moment he said that, everyone fell to their knees in fear, begging me for mercy.I took down the magical necklace and revealed my noble bloo

My father had always said that when we were up against a wicked wolf, we should retaliate in ways that were more wicked than they were.At that thought, I slowly rose to my feet. I walked up to Irina and slapped her harshly across the face. I hit her so hard that her face immediately became swollen, and blood trickled from the corner of her lips. She stared at me in disbelief. "You worthless Omega, how dare you hit me! I'll show you who you're up against."With a furious howl, she shifted and dashed toward me. She growled, "Die!"Almost immediately, I lashed out and sent her flying backward. She fell to the ground weakly and coughed up a mouthful of blood.Iris stretched lazily. She sounded displeased as she remarked, "She couldn't even survive a hit. How pathetic."Irina didn't expect me to be that strong. She seemed flustered, but she remained proud as she declared, "Noelle, how dare you hit me! I will never let you get away with this!"Smiling, I knelt beside her. "Very well.

As my words resonated through the room, so did the overwhelming pressure of my commanding authority.Sensing it, Horatius became frantic. He almost fell to his knees to beg for mercy, but I stopped him. "Horatius, you saw with your own eyes how they insulted me. Are you trying to cover up for them?"Iris barked, "Don't show them mercy. How else are we supposed to uphold the Kingdom's dignity?"Irina didn't realize how flustered Horatius was. Her tone was laced with sarcasm. "The consequences of doing you wrong? I'm amused. What can an Omega like you do to me?"I'm the heiress of the Silvermoon pack. Do you have any idea how many packs are waiting to work together with my father? It's your honor to be insulted by me, lowly Omega."Everyone else looked at me mockingly. They thought the devastation had driven me mad, which explained my haughty manner. However, their attitudes were the least of my concerns. They would soon learn if I were boasting or merely speaking the truth.Notin

To my surprise, Irina spoke up first this time. She scoffed and tossed a check to me. "I know what you're trying to do. You're causing a scene just to get something out of it! Write down any amount you want on that check. I'll pay you just for you to shut up!"I cast the haughty Irina a disdainful glance. "Irina, take my advice and stay down. The Silvermoon pack wouldn't want to go up against me."Iris mocked her. "No wonder the Silvermoon pack is growing weaker—they even appointed such a dumb she-wolf to be the successor."Upon hearing me, Cassian immediately pulled Irina behind him. He glared at me. "Stop boasting. Don't think that I don't know what has happened. If your father hadn't been buttering up to mine, you wouldn't even be standing here talking to me."If you're truly a capable she-wolf, there's no way I wouldn't be able to sense your bloodline. You're nothing but a lowly Omega!"I was stunned at his words.Iris couldn't hold back anymore. "Idiot! Who is he calling a

My father didn't see that coming. He was surprised and furious. "Elly, is this a joke? How dare that brat do this to you?"Taking in the smug looks around me, anger crept into my eyes as well. "Father, am I someone who'd joke around about something like this? They said they wanted to chase me out of the Moonfall pack. The guards are already on standby."I told him how Cassian forced me to swear the oaths and how Irina interrupted the ceremony. His furious howl resonated throughout the whole room. "Which pack does that outrageous she-wolf belong to? How dare she disrespect you!"I was just about to answer when Asher snorted. "As expected of a lowly Omega—even her family is that ungrateful! Mr. Sawyer, hurry up and take your daughter with you. The honorable heiress of the Silvermoon pack will be our future Luna. Your daughter is nothing compared to her."No one had dared to talk to my father with such insolence. He chuckled in anger. "The Silvermoon pack?"Asher pretended not to he

"Cass, do you really want me to be your Luna?" Irina asked, delighted.Asher ran up to her in excitement. "Irina, you're finally here!" I calmly looked toward her and smiled. "So, I guess you're the one Asher pledges his loyalty to. You're doing all this for the sake of becoming the Moonfall pack's Luna, right?"Irina sneered, her eyes shining with glee. "As expected of the she-wolf whom the ex-Alpha held in high regard. You're truly intelligent, but sometimes, your wits will be your undoing."You refused to make the oaths earlier on. Am I right? What a pity. You had a chance to be Luna, but now, you'll forever be a lowly Omega."She paused and shot me a sarcastic smile. Then, she continued, "Your father must've sacrificed a lot in exchange for your chance to be Luna. Unfortunately, you've put his efforts to waste."I couldn't stop myself from smiling. "You're right. Someone has indeed put their father's efforts to waste."Irina snorted. "It's too late to change your mind now.
